Bulow Plantation Flagler Beach
Bulow Plantation Flagler Beach , Pronounced.. B-You-Low.
The 150 acres of Bulow Plantation Ruins stand as a monument to the rise and fall of sugar plantations in East Florida. In 1836, the Second Seminole War swept away the prosperous Bulow Plantation where the Bulow family grew sugar cane, cotton, rice and indigo. Ruins of the former plantation, a sugar mill, a unique spring house, several wells and the crumbling foundations of the plantation house and slave cabins, show how volatile the Florida frontier was in the early 19th century. Today, a scenic walking trail leads visitors to the sugar mill ruins, listed on the National Register of Historic Sites.
The park has picnic facilities and an interpretive center that tells the plantation's history. A boat ramp provides access for canoes and small powerboats to scenic Bulow Creek, a designated state canoe trail. Anglers can fish from the dock or a boat.

Bulow Plantation Ruins
I hiked the Bulow Woods Trail up to this site in Bulow Plantation Ruins Historic State Park. I posted some information below about this place, it has a lot of history and is a great place to visit.
The 150 acres of Bulow Plantation Ruins stand as a monument to the rise and fall of sugar plantations in East Florida. In 1836, the Second Seminole War swept away the prosperous Bulow Plantation where the Bulow family grew sugar cane, cotton, rice and indigo. Ruins of the former plantation, a sugar mill, a unique spring house, several wells and the crumbling foundations of the plantation house and slave cabins.
In 1821, Major Charles Wilhelm Bulow acquired 4,675 acres of wilderness bordering a tidal creek that would bear his name. Using slave labor, he cleared 2,200 acres and planted sugar cane, cotton, rice and indigo. Soon after the plantation was established, Major Bulow died and his son John took over operations. The plantation prospered until the outbreak of the Second Seminole War. After the war, the plantation was abandoned. In 1836, the Seminoles burned 'Bulowville' along with other plantations in the area. All that is left today are the coquina ruins of the sugar mill, several wells, a spring house and the crumbling foundation of the mansion. The cleared fields have been reclaimed by the forest, and the area looks much as it did when it belonged to the Seminoles.

Today, you can take a scenic walking on the trail that leads visitors to the sugar mill ruins. The park has picnic facilities, boat ramp provides access for canoes Bulow Creek, a designated state canoe trail. it a must see in Florida.

Tony came home one day about 2 years ago and said what do you think about buying a fifth wheel to travel America when I retire. We talked about it and talked about it. ????
So we put a plan into action, after 3 garage sales, 1 Estate sale, boat, car, 93 truck and then the sale of our beautiful home. (Thank you Stephanie who's the best realtor ever.) The rest of our stuff was able to finally fit into a 10 by 20 storage unit.
In November we bought a beautiful fifth wheel we named her Hope as in Hope we can make it to the next place. Lolol
On February 28 my wonderful husband retired. So here we are on our first journey with the promise to take lots of video and pictures.

Bulow Plantation Ruins Investigation

Bulow Plantation Ruins By Foot and Canoe
Bulow Plantation Ruins Historic State Park is a Florida State Park in Flagler Beach, Florida. It is three miles west of Flagler Beach on CR 2001, south of SR 100, and contains the ruins of an ante-bellum plantation and its sugar mill, built of coquina sedimentary rock, made up of crushed shells. It was the largest plantation in East Florida.[2]
The plantation was developed beginning in 1821 by Major Charles Wilhelm Bulow, who acquired 4,675 acres on a tidal creek (later Bulow Creek). With slave labor, he cleared 2,200 acres for the cultivation of commodity crops: indigo, cotton, rice, and sugarcane. At his death in 1823, his seventeen-year-old son, John Joachim Bulow inherited the property and managed it. At Christmas 1831 into January 1832, Bulow hosted the artist and naturalist John James Audubon, who explored the area in his continuing study of American birds. About that time, Bulow had a sugar mill constructed on his property. The plantation was destroyed in the Seminole War of 1836.
The property and ruins were acquired by the State of Florida in 1945 and dedicated as a State Historic Park in 1957.
