Burg Eltz - Medieval castle between Koblenz & Trier, Germany (near the Moselle River)
A rare, fully intact medieval castle that survived the ravages of the bombings of World War II. Located in a very rural & remote area between the towns of Koblenz and Trier, Germany, just off the Moselle River. It was an absolute delight to visit and it was easy to see why well-known travel host Rick Steves has declared this to be his very favorite of all the European castles he has visited.

Burg Eltz - Wierschem, Germany
Beautiful drone footage I took of Burg Eltz in Wierschem, Germany this last weekend. A stunning castle nestled in a valley and built atop a small hill. Taking the hiking trail through the woods, you are wondering where this beautiful castle is, after a few minutes walking you take a turn and it pops out of no where!
I truly enjoyed shooting this video, despite the brisk cold that morning, I am in love with the footage. I hope you enjoy!
Remember if you are going to fly a drone in Germany there are many rules to follow! Please look them up before you fly. Burg Eltz also has a no drone rule, please contact them prior to arrange permission to fly here!

The river running from Mainz to Koblenz is riddled with epic medieval castles and hilltop forts. The greatest of them all is Burg Eltz. Built over a thousand years ago it's one of only two castles West of the Rhine that's never been destroyed.

- Die zu Beginn des 12. Jahrhunderts erbaute Burg Eltz liegt in der Ortsgemeinde Wierschem und gut 4 Kilometer südlich der Stadt Münstermaifeld in Rheinland-Pfalz. Die Besonderheit an Burg Eltz ist, dass sie niemals erobert oder verwüstet wurde. Sie überstand alle gesellschaftlichen Umbrüche und Kriege. Sogar die französischen Reunions-Kriege - währendessen ein Großteil der rheinischen Burgen zerstört wurde - überstand sie schadlos.
Story Behind The Image | BURG ELTZ CASTLE IN Germany
Eltz Castle (German: Burg Eltz Schloss) is a medieval castle nestled in the hills above the Moselle River between Koblenz and Trier, Germany.
It is still owned by a branch of the same family (the Eltz family) that lived there in the 12th century, 33 generations ago. The castle is surrounded on three sides by the Elzbach River and is known to get mist especially in the fall or autumn, we were not so lucky.
Behind the scene video of my shoot over the August bank Holiday Weekend. We arrived early, this is my story behind the images shot on my 24-70 Tamron Lens.

Die Burg Eltz ist eine Höhenburg aus dem 12. Jahrhundert. Sie liegt im Tal der Elz, die das Maifeld von der Vordereifel trennt, südlich der Ortslage auf der Gemarkung der Ortsgemeinde Wierschem in Rheinland-Pfalz auf 320 m ü. NHN. Das Bauwerk gehört zu den bekanntesten Burgen Deutschlands. Wie das Schloss Bürresheim und die Burg Lissingen ist es eine jener Befestigungsanlagen in der Eifel, die niemals erobert werden konnten.
El castillo de Eltz es un castillo medieval ubicado en las colinas sobre el río Mosela entre Coblenza y Tréveris, Alemania. Aún es propiedad de una rama de la misma familia que vivía allí en el siglo XII, hace 33 generaciones. Las casas de las familias Rübenach y Rodendorf en el castillo están abiertas al público, mientras que la rama Kempenich hace uso de la otra tercera parte. Talk about choice real estate—the Eltz Castle in Wierschem, Germany, is a spectacular medieval structure that sits within a valley, surrounded by serene forestland. The Eltz family has owned this piece of enchanting beauty since 1157, and has kept residence at the estate for 34 generations. Although none of the Eltz clan currently occupies the 120-room castle full time, it is open to visitors, who travel from all over to witness the vast collection of historic treasures, including weapons, armor and art.

Burcht Eltz is een van de belangrijkste burchten in Duitsland, gelegen in de plaats Wierschem. Het is sinds 1157 de residentie van de graven van Eltz. Er werd 500 jaar lang aan gebouwd waardoor zowel middeleeuwse alsook gebouwen in renaissance stijl ontstonden. Rond zijn imposante slotplein staan acht woontorens. Binnen valt er adellijke wooncultuur door de eeuwen heen te bewonderen. In de schatkamer worden kunstvoorwerpen van goud en zilver, ivoor en porselein evenals historische wapens bewaard.
Eltz Castle is one of the most important castles in Germany, situated in the locality Wierschem. It is since 1157 the residence of the counts of Eltz. It was built 500 years long time which caused both medieval and Renaissance buildings. Around its imposing castle courtyard are eight residential towers. Inside there is noble living culture to admire over the centuries. In the treasury are artifacts of gold and silver, ivory and porcelain as well as preserved historical weapons.

A 3-day road trip and camping trip to Germany! To one of the most beautiful areas in Europe.
In these 3 days we drove through the Mosel Valley, visited the midivil castle Burg Eltz. Had a fun time exploring the cutest village Cochem. And made our way over the Geierlay Bridge, one of the longest suspended bridges in Europe.
