Shelburne Farms & Burlington, VT Winter Guide 2020
Our final day in Burlington, Vermont was mostly spent at Shelburne Farms since many places are closed on Christmas Eve. I absolutely loved visiting the Shelburne Farms resident Swiss cows and sampling their farmstead cheddar cheese. Afterwards, we headed over to Lake Champlain Chocolate factory in Burlington, Vermont before heading back to the hotel for the evening.

Membership at City Market
City Market, Onion River Co-op, is a 16,000 sq. ft. community-owned food cooperative located in beautiful downtown Burlington, Vermont. City Market is Burlington's only downtown grocery store, open 363 days per year from 7 a.m. to 11 p.m.
City Market provides a critical service to the residents of Burlington and the larger community by providing conventional, organic and local products at a fair price to all. Over 3,000 customers pass through our doors each day in search of the quality products offered by City Market.
The Co-op is also extremely dedicated to supporting the local economy and enhancing the sustainability of agriculture. We work with over 1,000 Vermont vendors to feature the widest selection of local products in the state. 73% of the vendors we do business with are located in Vermont and over 60 cents of every dollar in sales stays here, not at some corporate chain grocery store office in a big city. We are member-owned, so the profits generated by Co-op members are returned to our members when we are financially stable. This is called our Patronage Refund program.

The Vermont Farmers Market Association (VTFMA) started in 2008 to encourage and establish successful farmers markets in Vermont that enhance direct marketing opportunities for market vendors while building direct connections between vendors and local consumers.
VTFMA collaborates with other organizations to:
-Facilitate communication, information sharing and networking among farmers markets
-Coordinate projects and provide services of value to all farmers markets in the state
-Collect data and conduct research on the status, needs, and benefits of farmers markets, including the level of outreach to communities to identify how farmers markets support businesses
-Promote farmers markets throughout the state
-Provide training and technical assistance for market vendors, managers and boards
-Create a voice for farmers markets in the state
-Work to increase access to farmers markets for low-income customers
-Develop strategic partnerships with public and private organizations to support farmers' markets
-Pursue other objectives as determined by the membership
-Raise funds as necessary to support the VTFMA's activities and programs.
VTFMA operates under the umbrella of NOFA Vermont, who will provide fiscal sponsorship until the VTFMA becomes an autonomous organization.
