Caddo Mounds State Historic Site
More than 1,200 years ago, a group of Caddo Indians known as the Hasinai built a village 26 miles west of present-day Nacogdoches. The site was the southwestern-most ceremonial center for the great Mound Builder culture. Today, three earthen mounds still rise from the lush Pineywoods landscape at Caddo Mounds State Historic Site, where visitors discover the everyday life and the history of this ancient civilization.

Indian Mounds, Alto, TX
A 24-mile paved route through the lush pine forests of Davy Crockett National Forest to Indian mounds, a Spanish mission, and a small forest lake. This drive traverses a section of the lush pine forests of East Texas within the boundaries of Davy Crockett National Forest. Along the way it passes two sites important in Texas history, the locations of a former Caddo Indian village and an early Spanish mission.
EVP recorded at the Caddo or Davis Mounds, Texas, on March 6, 2009.
Listen to this remarkable example of EVP (electronic voice phenomena) recorded at the Caddo or Davis Mounds, Texas, on March 6, 2009. Present were Greg and Lora Little, and writer and author Andrew Collins, who is calling out, asking for a response as he records on a small voice recorder. When he asks what do those hovering turkey vultures mean to the spirits present, a response comes in the form of a single word spoken slowly in three syllables - BAH - CHU - CAH. This Andrew later finds means death in the local Caddo language, an apt answer to his question about the turkey vultures circling overhead.

Texas, USA: 8 Killed as Tornado hits central Texas town!
Powerful Tornado hits central Texas town as severe storms forecast from Dallas to Birmingham, Alabama killed at least 8 people including three children and injured dozens and flattened much of the Texas town on Saturday and Sunday. Storms continued to move across the South. The town of 1,600 people, located 150 miles south of Dallas, took a direct hit, with at least two mobile homes destroyed, KWTX reports. Nearly 90,000 customers were without power in Texas, Mississippi, Louisiana, Arkansas, and Georgia as of midday Sunday, according to poweroutage of United States as the severe weather left a trail of destruction. Two children were killed on a back road in East Texas when a pine tree fell onto the car in which they were riding in a severe thunderstorm near Pollok, about 150 miles southeast of Dallas. The tree “flattened the car like a pancake,” said Capt. Alton Lenderman of the Angelina County Sheriff’s Office. Officials say that 17 counties are dealing with damage from the storm. The worst damage was seen in Monroe and Warren Counties. At least 25 people were taken to hospitals for treatment after a tornado struck the Caddo Mounds State Historic Site in East Texas during a Native American cultural event in Alto, about 130 miles southeast of Dallas, said Police Chief Jeremy Jackson. Mississippi Governor Phil Bryant declared a state of emergency and met the Mississippi Emergency Management Agency on Sunday to report on the damage across the state.
