This was our adventures at the Calaveras Big Tree State Park in California. We hiked the grove overlook trail and the north grove trail. Theses giants sequoia trees were amazing to see. We had fun there.

Vidcaps slideshow from a trip my brother and I took to Calaveras Big Trees State Park, about a 20-minute drive from our home in Angels Camp. First shots are of the Stanislaus River North Fork, then around the park itself. Some of these Sequoia trees are the biggest and oldest living things on earth.

Thus far, all the videos of forests that I have posted have been of coastal redwoods (Muir Woods, Henry Cowell, Big Basin). Calaveras Big Trees is unique because it is located in the Sierras at around a 4,800 ft. elevation and so, as you can see, it sees a lot of snow in the winter. Yet, on this particular day it was only around 60 degrees so I was perfectly comfortable wearing shorts and a sweatshirt.

For this week’s episode, we headed out to another familiar area for us. Arnold, California, on our way to Calaveras Big Trees State Park.
This is a great hike for the whole family as the elevation change is only about 100 feet for this 1.5 mile loop around the North Grove. Unfortunately, we had forgotten our tripod so this was more of an experimental shoot for us.

Video was shot on a Sony a6500 and a GoPro Hero 4 and was edited in Adobe Premiere w/ animation from Adobe After Effects.
The acoustic guitar is a Larrivee OM-40 in CGCGGC tuning, and the percussion is a Schlagwerk Bass Cajon and Cajinto with egg shakers. All instruments were recorded on a Zoom H6 and mixed using Avid Pro Tools First.

Ebbetts Pass Scenic Byway Part 1: Arnold & Calaveras Big Trees State Park
This is the beginning of a series featuring the Ebbetts Pass National Scenic Byway. This video follows SR-4 in Arnold and past Calaveras Big Trees State Park. This section of the road is by far the easiest and most heavily traveled section of the byway. This is also a remake of a video I made back in 2012, this time with improved quality and editing.
