Walking in Kolkata ( Calcutta)
Kolkata known historically in English as Calcutta is the capital of the Indian state of West Bengal. Located on the east bank of the Hooghly river, it is the principal commercial, cultural, and educational centre of East India, while the Port of Kolkata is India's oldest operating port as well as its sole major riverine port. As of 2011, the city had 4.5 million residents; the urban agglomeration, which comprises the city and its suburbs, was home to approximately 14.1 million, making it the third-most populous metropolitan area in India.
Rupert Dean from England talks about his tours with Calcutta Photo Tours
Rupert, who was in India for 4 months had two lovely mornings on photo tours with Calcutta Photo Tours. He took two tours - The Mesmerizing Markets Tour which is a pure photography tour and The Culture Kaleidoscope Tour which is a wonderful mix of story-telling and photography. He said these tours gave him some of his best pictures in his 4 months in India.
Hope to have you back in Calcutta soon.
80 year old Calcutta born rediscovers Calcutta!
Something beautiful happened this morning! An 80 year old Calcutta born rediscovers his city and is so overwhelmed that he quotes Rabindranath, on a beautiful morning, punctuated with birds singing in the neighbourhood that is magic early in the morning.
Someone had once said that travel is travel even if it means visiting a different locality in the same city. It need not be going somewhere far off, exotic and fancy where something as basic as your sim card stops working and your phone needs to sport two sims! ;-)
Here's to travel that embraces the very lanes you grew up in with a fresh pair of eyes and a flutter in your heart!

Calcutta traffic and construction from 1970's: archival footage of modern day Kolkata
1970's imagery from Calcutta city. Construction goes on atop a new multi-storeyed building location while the city moves ahead at its own pace. Yellow taxi cabs on the street and ancient-looking buses ply the streets of Calcutta.
The Victoria Memorial looks as grand as ever, from afar. Hindustan Ambassador cars and Fiat taxis rule the roost.
What's that car right at the end of the clip? Doesn't it looks suspiciously like a Lotus sports car?

Kolkata/Calcutta walk tour with Let's Meetup Tours in India
We believe Walking is the best way to see a place. If you drive, you watch the road. In a taxi, the city moves past too quickly. Riding a bicycle is even too fast and distracting. Walking is the only way to really examine the people, the shops, the art, and the trash. The only way to feel the texture of a city at ground level is with your feet.

Best places to visit in Kolkata | Dalhousie square B.B.D. Bagh tour | West Bengal India (তুমিও হেঁটে দেখো কোলকাতা)- 1
Kolkata is third-largest city and a daily festival of human existence, simultaneously noble and squalid, cultured and desperate, decidedly futuristic while splendid in decay. By its old spelling, Calcutta readily conjures images of human suffering to most Westerners – although that's not a complete picture of this 330-year-old metropolis. Locally, Kolkata is regarded as India’s intellectual, artistic and cultural capital. Although poverty is certainly apparent, the self-made middle class drives the city's core machinery, a nascent hipster culture thrives among its millennial residents and its dapper Bengali gentry frequent grand colonial-era clubs.
This video about 11 heritage tourist places in Dalhousie Kolkata.
Dalhousie square previously called BBD bag, the full form of Binoy Badal Dinesh bag. It contents writers’ building, Lal dighi, GPO, telephone Bhavan, the heritage of Kolkata, HSBC bank, royal insurance building, currency building etc.
Dalhousie Square is one of the busiest areas in Kolkata city. Needless to say, it’s the heart of the city as well. There is an ancient square-shaped pond called ‘Lal Dighi’ and it’s quite popular among the Kolkatans. Around this ponds most of the important building structures and landmarks situated. Like Writers’ Building (Mahakaran), G.P.O., Telephone Bhavan, Currency Building, India Post, Royal Insurance Building and Stephen House etc. Besides, The Reserve Bank of India (main branch) and the Hongkong Shanghai Bank deserve a mention.
B. B. D. Bag is an acronym used for the names three great fighter sons of Bengal, - Benoy, Badal and Dinesh Bag. Today, there is a railway station, bus terminus and a tram depot after the name (BBD Bag).
Visitors/tourist who come to Kolkata always visit these places. The holy churches, ancient, and historical buildings carry the architectural appeal of the past decades. Besides, the Hooghly riverbank, the Millennium Park, Raj Bhavan, Kolkata high court, Babughat invite everyone to visit the place time and again.
The region is located at a walking distance away from the Dharmatala, Esplanade section of the city. However, the area is accessible by the local railways, buses, trams, and jetty services and Kolkata metro as well(the nearest station is central metro station) as well.
