The Caledonian MacBrayne fleet is the largest fleet of car and passenger ferries in the United Kingdom. With 31 units in operation , the company provides lifeline services to 23 islands off the west coast of Scotland, as well as operating routes across the Firth of Clyde. Caledonian MacBrayne vessels can be readily identified by their black hulls and white superstructures. They have red funnels with black caps that display the Lion Rampant badge with masts in buff. The fleet can be categorised into various groups. All vessels are owned by the asset holding company Caledonian Maritime Assets Limited, which is in turn wholly owned by the Scottish Government.

MV Hallaig arriving at Sconser

We had a great time during our week on Skye in June 2015; our day exploring Raasay was both a real highpoint and our CalMac ferry opportunity. Here's the hybrid ferry MV Hallaig, arriving at Sconser on Skye to take us over to Raasay. Great to hear that CalMac won the deal for the next eight years.

Paddle Steamer Waverley Departing Oban 2nd June 2018

Paddle Steamer Waverley departing from Oban on Saturday 2nd June 2018.
The departure was delayed by 50 minutes due to fog in Oban bay.
The days advertised timetable was not achievable due to the poor visibility as more fog patches were experienced on the way to Armadale.
An alternative was to take Waverley to Tobermory to allow her passengers a couple hours ashore in glorious sunshine.
