*If you visit Siem Reap, you must visit the ancient Angkor Wat. It's an incredibly well maintained temple site with massive, ornate, well- preserved temples and other buildings. Admission into Angkor Wat costs $20 for a day pass, so for my fellow $20 per day budget travelers, be sure to factor this one in to the cost of visiting Siem Reap!
YEAH, SO WHAT, we went over the budget... Just trying to celebrate our TENTH episode of 20 Dollar Traveling!

About Me:
My name is Kevin Cook. I'm originally from Dallas, TX, but I've been living and traveling in Asia since 2013.
After graduating from university in 2011 and working a few unfulfilling jobs, I saved enough money to move to Asia and work as a teacher for a few years. That opportunity allowed me to travel around and experience new foods and cultures, and ignited a passion for blogging and making videos.
Now I travel full-time and make videos with the goal that I can encourage YOU to pursue your own dream of overseas traveling and living.

Angkor Silk Farm - Silk on the Loom - Siem Reap, Cambodia
WestIslandKev filmed: June 30, 2013 - Siem Reap, Cambodia.
Here the silk thread is on a loom to make intricate Cambodian patterns.
The Angkor Silk farm, run by Artisans Angkor, is located in Siem Reap about 20 minutes from the city center. I enjoyed a tuk tuk ride to the center. The tour guide will explain the role of mulberry trees, silkworm farming, cocoon unwinding, preparation of the silk threads, tie-dyeing of the threads and silk weaving.
Welcome to Cambodia! I departed Montreal May 28, 2013 travelling to Cambodia and filming my journey. I share the flight videos as well as highlights of my wonderful visit to Cambodia, the Kingdom of Wonder. Please check out my videos and let me know what you think. I hope that you enjoy!

Artisans D'Angkor Tour and Phare Cambodian Circus in Siem Reap Cambodia with Club Adventures
Our visit to Artisans DAngkor was a pleasant surprise. Not on our itinerary, we asked to be taken somewhere to do a bit of shopping. Instead of taking us to a generic souvenir spot, our guide brought us here. Authentic, local, and inexpensive. Highly recommended. We also got a chance to check out the Phare Cambodia Circus which was an experience to remember.
Club Adventures is a small group travel company powered by AAA. They believe in creating unscripted travel moments and utilize local guides to give each tour a local perspective. Here is the tour that I did if you want to check it out!:

Cambodian Food Tour in Siem Reap!
Another souvenir from my latest trip to Asia, sorry took a while to get it out to you! I finally made it to Cambodia. I went with an intention to see Angkor Wat, but I was almost more excited to experience the cuisine. Cambodia and Thailand have access to the same ingredients and share very similar roots, so I was very interested to see in what ways the two cuisines are similar and different.
I was so lucky to have a wonderful tour guide, Sam of SR Group, because he himself is a foodie, and happens to also be a fan of Hot Thai Kitchen! Obviously, we had no shortage of great food during this trip. Hope you enjoy the video and thank you for watching!

Lotus Farm in siem reap angkor province | Popular attraction on the way to tonle sap lake.
Siem Reap (Khmer: ក្រុងសៀមរាប, pronounced [siəm riəp]; Thai: เสียมราฐ) is the capital city of Siem Reap Province in northwestern Cambodia, and a popular resort town as the gateway to Angkor region.
Siem Reap has colonial and Chinese-style architecture in the Old French Quarter, and around the Old Market. In the city, there are museums, traditional Apsara dance performances, a Cambodian cultural village, souvenir and handycraft shops, silk farms, rice-paddies in the countryside, fishing villages and a bird sanctuary near the Tonle Sap Lake. THANK YOU TO Siem Reaper for taking us around!!!
Travel Tips:
1. Visa - go to the link below to apply for a Visa online. For the photo just take one using your phone against a white background and upload to the online application OR you can simply get it when you arrive at Siem Reap airport for $30.
2. Immigration - once you get to the terminal head towards immigration desks and to the left of that area you will find a table with arrival and departure forms, which look like small packets on my video. The airlines did not give me one during the flight, which they typically would.
3. Currency - bring a lot of US dollars, especially singles. Most things you buy will be in the $2-$3 range. Not necessary to bring anything greater than $20.
4. Tuk Tuk - definitely hire one from beginning to end and if you do reach out to my driver Pi Bak (Facebook link below) who can be reached on WhatsApp. He can pick you up from the airport for $5 and can take you around all day for about $20.
5. Where to stay - AirBnb is a great place to look as each night can range anywhere from $20-$50 for a nice place.
6 & 7. Night Markets and where to eat - Eat at the Night Markets! Check out the two main night markets below.
Angkor Night Market
Pub Street
8. Temples - Check out the link below. Pace yourself! You need to buy a ticket which gets you in to all the temples. I was able to do all in one day but you can do multi-day tickets. Don't recommend doing the tour in the link, rather just get a tuk tuk to take you to each place.
9. What to Wear - shorts and t-shirt, it's hot! A towel for when it gets hot walking around. light scarf and sunglasses during the tuk tuk ride, it can get dusty.
10. Tipping - appreciated but not expected.
**Siem Reap Airport Lounge Tips
Priority Pass lounge is available. After security and immigration go through the duty free shopping and keep right. You should see it at the end of the hall part the garden.
