The Camp Richardson neighborhood of South Lake Tahoe, CA
Camp Richardson is one of the most historic areas on the South Shore of Lake Tahoe.
Reminiscent of a time gone by, this resort area is home to year round activities as well as opportunities for relaxing. The Tallac Historic Site is located here and one can stroll through the site and enjoy what the residents and visitors did in the late 1800's and early 1900's. This area has campgrounds, cabins, restaurants, a marina, local store, activity rentals and much more.
Home ownership in this area is quite rare and opportunities to buy property are few and far between. Since there are very few homes in Camp Richardson, living here puts you in an exclusive group. This area is mainly comprised of lakefront homes just south of the Tallac Historic Site.

2017 Tahoe Rim Trail Thru-Hike, Day 11 - Richardson Lake to Tahoe City
Covered nearly 24 miles today to wrap up the Tahoe Rim Trail on this day. We were going to keep it short, but once atop Twin Peaks, we saw tons of smoke and couldn't make out any part of Lake Tahoe. We stopped, deliberated, and decided to push onto Tahoe City. The rest of the hike was practically downhill and at our downhill pace, we could make Tahoe City easily.
Once we began the descent, our final afternoon thunderstorm hit us, with thunder, lightning, and dime-sized hail. We were use to it though and just pushed on. The rain actually kept me cool, while pushing myself to finish the trail.

US Highway 50 Eastbound in South Lake Tahoe, crossing the border from California to Nevada. City of South Lake Tahoe in California, city of Stateline in Nevada.
This was very challenging to make closed captions for, especially with the very limited formatting and positioning that YouTube supports.

Pulling into Tahoe via Stateline, Nevada is like pulling into a Las Vegas/Up North baby. Casinos and resorts turn into camps and fudge shops. From the East you’ll pass thru all of that, past the Camp Richardson and finally turn away from Lake Tahoe into Fallen Leaf Campground. If you’re going to camp in Tahoe you’ve made the right decision. Fallen Leaf Lake is at the rear of the camp. While smaller and not as well known it is also not overly trafficked, crystal clear and surrounded by hiking paths along the water.
Fallen Leaf Campground is a massive 206+ site compound complete with its own store, shower houses and if you travel past the camp all the way to the other side of the lake (and other campgrounds) an ice cream shop. That said, Fallen Leaf Campground does a great job of keeping an “out in the woods” vibe. It is absolutely that place that families go year after year after year, but if you can get a site on the outer loop you can still have some separation, plenty of trees and with the lake so close, feel like you’re in the heart of nature. One of the better jobs by a large scale campground I’ve experienced.
But be prepared. It’s going to be full of kids and dogs and campers who are not necessarily out there to experience nature but to see family and friends and likely drink a caseload of Bud Light a day. There may also be bears. Bears are everywhere here. Or so we heard. We never saw one, but the camp staff and campers around us all had bear stories that just happened yesterday! or last week! or in 1950! Basically, bears. There are bear box...

Hunefeld Dunham Cottage Lake Tahoe Zephyr Cove
We've been going to this cottage in Zephyr Cove for 6 years...morning coffee with the newspapers and breakfast .. great trails to hike and bike... or simply walk around the adjoining camp trails - Zephyr Cove State park .. lay on the beach... sandy... with beers... different porch areas to choose from and the sandy beach is private for those on the Zephyr Cove neighborhood area .. spend time thinking about what to cook for lunch/dinner - we haven't gone to a restaurant in the 7 years we've been going there... lotsa of grilling, salads cocktails and hors d'oeuvres .. work the crossword puzzle - sit on the beach and read/drink wine/do crosswords, drink beer .. play euchre/scrabble/cook and chat- I never win or come close at scrabble- trivial pursuit cards -- drink beer, eat ice cream.. have dinner and margaritas... we watch an occasional baseball game... otherwise the TV stays off... there is no internet access unless you walk to the local library... or drive 6 miles to Stateline Starbucks... the whole week is very cottagey/log cabinny
