Harpeth River & Kingston Springs, TN Drone Footage
A view from the air of the Harpeth River near Burns Park in Kingston Springs, taken from my Phantom 3 drone. The Highway 70 Harpeth River Bridge in Shacklett can be seen off in the distance around the 1:40 mark. If you look closely at 2:58, you can see a lone CSX locomotive going through downtown headed west. (Please note, at no time did I fly over any homes, people, or roads, as per FAA Drone Laws.)
Recorded on July 23, 2017.
The song is Acoustic Arrangement of Aquatic Ambience from Donkey Kong Country by Fred Baty. Here is the link to the song -

When The River Roared
During the recent thousand year flood in Middle Tennessee, many residents found themselves cut off from the outside world. For those able to get out, too many found they had no homes to return to.
I am one of the lucky ones whose house was on high ground and experienced no significant damage. But for several days, dozens of residents in my rural neighborhood near the Narrows Of The Harpeth State Park were on our own little island. There were three ways in and out of our neighborhood and all were impassable. The Harpeth River in our area is normally a slow moving, peaceful river that is shallow enough in spots that summer canoeists have to walk their canoes over sandbars. In my immediate area, The Narrows of the Harpeth is a well-maintained state park that had canoe ramps, river access roads and a series of wooden steps leading to the first man-made tunnel in the United States. All were destroyed. I don't think anyone who knows this area ever imagined in their wildest dreams that such a peaceful little river could rise up to the levels it did and cause so much devastation. It is no exaggeration to say that during the flood of 2010, this river truly did roar.
As a television producer with a background in news and production, I was torn between feeling like I should document what was happening with a strong desire to not be exploitative of other people's losses. So, I decided to tell the only story I could reliably talk about. My own.
As such, this little film makes no attempt to be a comprehensive look at an epic natural disaster. Rather, it is one person's look at one rural neighborhood in one part of a very large affected region. Looking back, I see in my own accounts where emotion got the best of me and I mistakenly referred to the bridge at times when I meant the road to the bridge. (I always just refer to that whole stretch of road and bridge going over the river as the bridge.) But I think it's important to show those things, warts and all, because this really is an in the moment account. I'm not sure much other footage exists, if any, of this particular location during the flood so I think it has value for that reason if nothing else.
Everyone I know in Nashville knows someone who lost everything they own. But how the entire Middle Tennessee region has responded to this disaster is truly inspirational. I witnessed and documented one such example which is found at the end of this film.
I will always be grateful to my country neighbors and the residents of the Leatherwood / Cedar Hill Road community for their determination to help each other and literally rise above whatever nature threw at us. It has always been a privilege to live in such a historically significant and naturally beautiful part of the country. Now, after the flood, I consider myself even luckier.

The park includes an incised meander in the river known as the Narrows of the Harpeth and its associated national historic landmark, the Montgomery Bell Tunnel. The park also includes the Mound Bottom and Mace Bluff archaeological sites, the Newsom's Mill Historic Site, the Gossett Tract State Natural Area, and a section of land at Hidden Lakes.
The Montgomery Bell Tunnel is a man-made water feature in Cheatham County, Tennessee, which directs water through a tunnel at a narrow portion of an oxbow on the Harpeth River.

Memorial Day 2019
Harpeth River State Park
I decided on Saturday to escape the hustle and bustle of Nashville and do a day hike at the historic Harpeth River State Park. The specific area is called the Narrows of the Harpeth. I wasn't expecting much, especially since the park closes an hour before sunset making it impossible to do a shoot at magic hour. Nonetheless, it was a nice way to get out of the city for a few hours.
Blog for post this video:
Unfortunately, a lot of other people were there littering, swimming where prohibited, drinking where prohibited that ended in an incident, walking dogs without leashes, blasting music, and were generally inconsiderate of other visitors. I found a few cool people on the trail who had similar experiences there as well. Next time I go back will need to be on a week day instead.

Horses Rescued from Flood
May 2, 2010 near Nashville, Tennessee. Dramatic footage of rescuing trapped horses in the massive flooding of middle Tennessee on May 1st and 2nd, 2010. Filmed in Kingston Springs TN. The big stink now is that the Corp of Engineers released billions of gallons of water from the Old Hickory Dam without so much as a phone call to Emergency Management. The release flooded hundreds of homes in an hour and a half.

War of 1812 | Wikipedia audio article
The War of 1812 was a conflict fought between the United States, the United Kingdom, and their respective allies from June 1812 to February 1815. Historians in Britain often see it as a minor theater of the Napoleonic Wars; in the United States and Canada, it is seen as a war in its own right.
From the outbreak of war with Napoleonic France, Britain had enforced a naval blockade to choke off neutral trade to France, which the US contested as illegal under international law. To man the blockade, Britain impressed American merchant sailors into the Royal Navy. Incidents such as the Chesapeake–Leopard affair inflamed anti-British sentiment in the US. In 1811, the British were in turn outraged by the Little Belt affair, in which 11 British sailors died. Britain supplied Indians who raided American settlers on the frontier, hindering American expansion and provoking resentment. Historians debate whether the desire to annex some or all of British North America (Canada) contributed to the American decision to go to war. On June 18, 1812, US President James Madison, after heavy pressure from the War Hawks in Congress, signed the American declaration of war into law. With most of its army in Europe fighting Napoleon, Britain adopted a defensive strategy. American prosecution of the war effort suffered from its unpopularity, especially in New England, where it was derogatorily referred to as Mr. Madison's War. American defeats at the Siege of Detroit and the Battle of Queenston Heights thwarted attempts to seize Upper Canada, improving British morale. American attempts to invade Lower Canada and capture Montreal also failed. In 1813, the Americans won the Battle of Lake Erie, gaining control of the lake, and at the Battle of the Thames defeated Tecumseh's Confederacy, securing a primary war goal. A final American attempt to invade Canada was fought to a draw at the Battle of Lundy's Lane during the summer of 1814. At sea, the powerful Royal Navy blockaded American ports, cutting off trade and allowing the British to raid the coast at will. In 1814, one of these raids burned the capital, Washington, although the Americans later repulsed British attempts to invade New England and capture Baltimore.
In Britain, there was mounting opposition to wartime taxation and demands to reopen trade with America. With the abdication of Napoleon, the blockade of France ended and Britain ceased impressment, rendering the issue of the impressment of American sailors moot. The British were then able to increase the strength of the blockade on the United States coast, annihilating American maritime trade and bringing the US government near to bankruptcy. Neither side wanted to continue fighting. Peace negotiations began in August 1814, and the Treaty of Ghent was signed on December 24. News of the peace did not reach America for some time. Unaware of the treaty, British forces invaded Louisiana and were defeated at the Battle of New Orleans in January 1815. These late victories were viewed by Americans as having restored national honour, leading to the collapse of anti-war sentiment and the beginning of the Era of Good Feelings, a period of national unity. News of the treaty arrived shortly thereafter, halting military operations. The treaty was unanimously ratified by the US Senate on February 17, 1815, ending the war with no boundary changes.

Listening is a more natural way of learning, when compared to reading. Written language only began at around 3200 BC, but spoken language has existed long ago.
Learning by listening is a great way to:

SUMMARY
=======
Missouri is a state in the Midwestern United States. With over six million residents, it is the 18th-most populous state of the Union. The largest urban areas are St. Louis, Kansas City, Springfield, and Columbia; the capital is Jefferson City, near the center of the state on the Missouri River. The state is the 21st-most extensive in area. In the South are the Ozarks, a forested highland, providing timber, minerals, and recreation. The Mississippi River forms the eastern border of the state.
Humans have inhabited the land now known as Missouri for at least 12,000 years. The Mississippian culture built cities and mounds, before declining in the 14th century. When European explorers arrived in the 17th century they encountered the Osage and Missouria nations. The French established Louisiana, a part of New France, and founded Ste. Genevieve in 1735 and St. Louis in 1764. After a brief period of Spanish rule, the United States acquired the Louisiana Purchase in 1803. Americans from the Upland South, including enslaved African Americans, rushed into the new Missouri Territory. Missouri was admitted as a slave state as part of the Missouri Compromise. Many from Virginia, Kentucky, and Tennessee settled in the Boonslick area of Mid-Missouri. Soon after, heavy German immigration formed the Missouri Rhineland.
Missouri played a central role in the westward expansion of the United States, as memorialized by the Gateway Arch. The Pony Express, Oregon Trail, Santa Fe Trail, and California Trail all began in Missouri. As a border state, Missouri's role in the American Civil War was complex and there were many conflicts within. After the war, both Greater St. Louis and the Kansas City metropolitan area became centers of industrialization and business. Today, the state is divided into 114 counties and the independent city of St. Louis.
Missouri's culture blends elements from the Midwestern and Southern United States. The musical styles of ragtime, Kansas City jazz, and St. Louis Blues developed in Missouri. The well-known Kansas City-style barbecue, and lesser-known St. Louis-style barbecue, can be found across the state and beyond. St. Louis is also a major center of beer brewing; Anheuser-Busch is the largest producer in the world. Missouri wine is produced in the nearby Missouri Rhineland and Ozarks. Missouri's alcohol laws are among the most permissive in the United States. Outside of the state's major cities, popular tourist destinations include the Lake of the Ozarks, Table Rock Lake, and Branson.
Well-known Missourians include U.S. President Harry S. Truman, Mark Twain, Walt Disney, Chuck Berry, and Nelly. Some of the largest companies based in the state include Cerner, Express Scripts, Monsanto, Emerson Electric, Edward Jones, H&R Block, Wells Fargo Advisors, and O'Reilly Auto Parts. Missouri has been called the Mother of the West and the Cave State; however, Missouri's most famous nickname is the Show Me State.

Bass fishing the Harpeth River but catching drum instead
My friend Holly and I are fishing from pontoon boats hoping to catch a big smallmouth bass. We ended up catching more drum than bass, but still had a great time out there. Holly ended up catching a nice channel cat as well, didn't get that on video unfortunately.
