Dolphin Watching Cruise In Cape May NJ
I love dolphins! It has always been a dream of mine to see them up close.
Not long ago I got to see some at the Baltimore Aquarium in Maryland.
But this was beyond words amazing. We got to see so many wild dolphins in their natural habitat. Every year hundreds of dolphins return to the Jersey shore for a plentiful feeding ground as well as to mate and have babies.
We were so lucky to spot a dolphin family that had a baby with them. Our guide guessed that the baby was only a few weeks old. She said it was very rare to be able to see a baby dolphin up so close. It was only about the size of two footballs!
This was an experience I will never forget!
Let me know what you think. Please leave any questions or comments bellow.

Thanks so much for watching and have a great day!

From our early days at the Cape May Whale Watcher, circa 1996. The vessel, pre bow pulpit, pre-stability sponsons, and pre engine re-power. At the time, the vessel was the largest in the state. As we move forward to the present time, 2011, we still find the Cape May Whale Watcher, or Big Red the largest in the state of NJ whale and dolphin watching.
NJIT Unmanned Aerial Systems (drone) historic testing in Cape May, NJ
NJIT will conduct unmanned aircraft systems (UAS) flights over the Atlantic Ocean this week to test the feasibility of safely integrating drones into public airspace and to assess the research and operational capabilities of communications and mapping sensors aboard the craft.
The flights will demonstrate UAS technology that could be deployed in response to natural or man-made disasters to assist state and federal homeland security and emergency management agencies.
The drone will lift off several times this week from an airstrip at the U.S. Coast Guard Training Center in Cape May, N.J. and travel for a nautical mile out over the ocean. It will be carrying several data-collecting instruments in its payload bay, including devices with mapping, communications relay, and streaming video capabilities.
NJIT researchers hope to ultimately deploy drone-borne weather sensors that can predict where a major storm will make landfall as many as three days before existing technology now permits. Communications relay devices are designed to function as “flying cell towers” capable of relaying calls and data from communities in which telecommunications equipment has been knocked out. Enhanced mapping technology would give emergency responders immediate information on damage caused by major storms such as Hurricane Sandy.
“We hope to mitigate the impact of storms and other disasters on communities by gathering information in advance, collecting real-time data on how a storm is developing, for example, to more accurately predict its destructive potential and prepare for it. Because these flights are unmanned, we can do this without putting people in harm's way,” said Michael Chumer, a research professor of information systems at NJIT and director of the Crisis Communication Center and of UAS Applied Research for the university, who is the mission’s research director.
This is a disruptive technology, with strong potential in the homeland security, emergency preparedness and communications spheres, so I expect many more useful applications to emerge, Chumer added.
During the flight, a ground-based mobile station will receive data transmissions from the drone, including a visual display of the drone’s view (real time) of the airspace it is traveling through.
In May, NJIT was the first New Jersey institution to receive a Certificate of Waiver/Authorization (COA) from the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) to conduct UAS test flights in national airspace and will be the first to test them. The Pennsylvania-based company American Aerospace, which specializes in long endurance unmanned aircraft systems flights, will operate the UAS from the Cape May facility.
After the flight, the team will assess the drone’s operational performance as well as its success in gathering data, which NJIT will share with the FAA and emergency management agencies.
In the future, NJIT drones have the authorization to fly as far as 14.5 nautical miles out over the ocean, as high as 10,000 feet into the air, and for as many as 14 to 16 hours at a time.
NJIT is also a partner in the Mid-Atlantic Aviation Partnership (MAAP), a consortium with more than 70 members that is housed at Virginia Tech, which last year was designated one of six test sites authorized to develop procedures to ensure the safe integration of drones into national airspace.

To fully explore and understand the ocean, we can no longer rely on a handful of large, expensive research vessels and vehicles. We truly need all hands on deck to do it.
On November 8-9, 2018, we brought together leaders and changemakers in ocean exploration, entertainment, recreation, and art to imagine new ways to empower an open, inclusive global community of ocean explorers. Our goal is to imagine creative ways to make the ocean so pervasive in modern culture that everyone has a positive association with and understanding of the sea.

The Texas Marine Mammal Stranding Network (TMMSN) | Texas Gulf Coast
The TMMSN is the only Stranding Network in the State of Texas and receives no state funding and receives only limited institutional support in the form of grants. TMMSN RELIES on the donations of time and funds from generous supporters. There is no other team in the State of Texas with the authority, experience, and ability necessary to care for the marine mammals of the Texas Gulf Coast.
The TMMSN is a non-profit organization created in 1980 to further the understanding and conservation of marine mammals through rescue and rehabilitation, research and education. The TMMSN consists of seven regions along the Texas coast and Louisiana, which provide a coordinated response to all marine mammal strandings.
Listen in as Talk of the Bay visits with Heidi Whitehead to learn more about TMMSN.
Under the Marine Mammal Protection Act Section 409.3:
A stranded animal occurs when the animal comes ashore alive under abnormal conditions, is injured close to shore, or washes ashore dead, whether individually or in a group.
A supportive and informed public is vital to the success of the stranding network. Without your help, strandings may go unreported, and animals that could be saved may die. Financial support is also imperative to the TMMSN's growth. As a non-profit organization, the TMMSN exists primarily on contributions from individuals and corporations.

MUFON CASE : 94920 Margate NJ, US ( September 15, 2018 )
Mutual UFO Network : Very bright egg shaped lights in the sky hovering then moving Amdahl glowing different colorsp
Long Description of Sighting Report
We came home from dinner and I looked in the sky and said what are those four bright lights in the sky all in a straight line? Then they started tot around and then got back I formatik . I thought this was crazy and unusual and asked my daughter to film it. Many lights and shaped cams out of these four lights and then they formed a straight line again. This went on for about ten minutes. We felt dizzy and light after the sighting . And felt very weird, hard to explain.

Wildwood Crest (Diamond Beach) - Something to do in the off season
We own a place in Seapointe Village and we love it there year round. This video was taken in early to mid November.
The bird santuary is opened in the offseason. There are no hotels, only sand dunes. We love walking our dogs on it. They love it too. We walk all the way to the jetty and the dogs love jumping on the rocks and exploring.
We have seen many fishermen here and boats in the past.

WCS-Woods Hole Acoustic Buoy Deployment in NY Bight | Blue York
Scientists working for WCS’s (Wildlife Conservation Society) New York Aquarium and the Woods Hole Oceanographic Institution (WHOI) now have an “ear” for the New York region’s biggest “voices and singers”: the whales of New York Bight.
On Thursday, June 23rd, 2016, the WCS New York Aquarium-WHOI team successfully deployed a hi-tech acoustic monitoring buoy in New York waters that will enable scientists to eavesdrop on some of the world’s largest animals.
The buoy itself is four feet in diameter and its mast stands six feet above the sea surface. It is connected with patented “stretch hoses” to a weighted frame that sits 125 feet below on the sea floor. The frame carries a unique acoustic instrument that records and processes sound from an underwater microphone called a hydrophone. Information from detected sounds is transmitted from the instrument to the buoy through the stretch hoses, and to shore through the Iridium satellite system. The buoy is located between two major shipping lanes entering New York Harbor, 22 miles south of Fire Island’s west end.
While similar buoys have been deployed by WHOI off the coasts of Massachusetts and Maine this year, the near real-time technology is being used for the first time in the waters of New York Bight—a region that ranges between Montauk, New York and Cape May, New Jersey—and will help researchers better understand the movements of, and threats to, the whales swimming in regional waters. The monitoring of the whales in the New York Bight is supported by The G. Unger Vetlesen Foundation.
Containing some of the busiest shipping lanes in the world, New York Bight is also home to seven species of great whales, including the humpback whale—known for its acrobatics and long, haunting songs—and the largest animal ever to exist on earth, the blue whale. The highly endangered North Atlantic right whale—one of the world’s rarest whale species—migrates through New York waters, and fin, sei, minke, and sperm whales have also been seen or heard in the waters of New York Bight.
All whale species rely on their acoustic environment to socialize and navigate, and they are vulnerable to human-related impacts such as those associated underwater noise, ship strikes, and fishing gear entanglements. Data from the buoy and other techniques as part of the project will help the team formulate new strategies for safeguarding the area’s whale populations and coordinate with state and federal agencies to protect whales and their most important habitats.
The digital acoustic monitoring buoy now floating in New York Bight will listen for whale vocalizations and other noise, and will relay information about the sounds it collects to a shore-side computer at WHOI. Analyst Julianne Gurnee of the Passive Acoustic Research Group at the Northeast Fisheries Science Center in Woods Hole, a long-time partner with WHOI in the development of the real-time acoustic technology, will review this information for whale calls. The analyzed data will be made available to the public through web sites at WHOI and through the WCS New York Aquarium, in its Ocean Wonders: Sharks! exhibit and as part of its Blue York Campaign.
WCS’s New York Aquarium is committed to restore and protect populations of threatened marine wildlife and habitats in local waters, and to inform and inspire New Yorkers about the natural heritage of New York Bight. The WCS New York Aquarium also conducts research on the region’s shark and ray populations, and is working to study and conserve the deep-water species of the Hudson Canyon, the largest submarine canyon off the East Coast.
