Cape Lodge, Yallingup, Western Australia
Cape Lodge, located in the Margaret River region in Western Australia's extraordinary South West, is a boutique vineyard hotel and award-winning restaurant, which was voted Top Ten in the World for Food in Conde Naste Traveller's Gold List. Executive chef Tony Howell's philosophy is to only use the freshest local produce, and changes his menu daily depending on what's available. Here, Tony tells us their story. UPDATE: 1 February 2014 marked the move of Tony Howell to Aravina Estate (still within the Margaret River Wine Region) where he has since taken up the role as Executive Chef.
In the lead up to Margaret River Gourmet Escape 2012, a four-day food and wine festival held in WA's South West from November 22 to 25, Tourism Western Australia uncovered some of the people who call the region home, and who are behind the produce that the region is so well known for.
Thanks to its Mediterranean climate and rich fertile soils, WA's South West has a reputation for producing world-class food and wine. The area is also well known for its pristine beaches, enviable surf breaks, ancient tall timber forests and an abundance of flora and fauna.

This week Kierran and I explore Margaret River's Beautiful Jewel Cave and the Cape Leeuwin Lighthouse before leaving Augusta to head for Dunsborough
Margaret River's Jewel Cave is the biggest cave in the Margaret River Region and has some incredible stalagtite and stagactite formations. For anyone thinking about ticking Jewel Cave off their Margaret River bucketlist this video is a must watch!
After Jewel Cave we check out the beautiful Cape Leeuwin Lighthouse. The Cape Leeuwin Lighthouse is the tallest lighthouse on mainland Australia and is absolutely breath-taking to stand beneath. It also marks the point where the Indian Ocean and the Southern Ocean meet!

Voyager Estate : 40 years
40 years ago on a small plot of special land in Margaret River, Peter and Jennifer Gherardi and their family set up camp, literally, with a vision. A vision to help build the then budding Margaret River wine-growing community with the planting of their own vineyard on Stevens Road. They were part of the early vanguard of wine explores and experimenters.
In 1991, Michael Wright became the new guardian of this vision and started the next phase in the life of this place, the evolution from Freycinet Estate to Voyager Estate.
The transition from patches of bare dirt to established vineyards has given us the opportunity to craft wines of precision and elegance that are true to our place.

In December 2009 reisden we in West Australie. Een trip van 3000 Km met een huurauto. De complete route was Perth, Kalgoorlie, Esperance, Albany, Pemberton, Margaret River, Perth. Dit filmpje is een impressie van MADELISANL in Margaret River. We reisden aan via Cape Leeuwin waar we de vuurtoren beklimmen. We bezoeken de Jewel Cave, Lake Cave en een Karribos. Op oudjaars dag gaan we naar een animal farm, brengen een bezoek aan het Leeuwin Estate en genieten van de kust.
