Captain Zipline, Lost Canyon Zipline Tour & Aerial Park Salida, Colorado
We spent the day with Captain Zipline at the Lost Canyon Aerial Park in Salida, Colorado. Captain Zipline is as it entails a Zip Line which winds through a gorgeous canyon right outside of Salida. In addition to the Zipline, there is a newly constructed Aerial Park, much like a jungle gym on steroids, with over 120 elements high above the ground to conquer.
We opted for the Aerial Park as we had never done this before. It was a BLAST! Not only is it a ton of fun and for all ages, it is a challenge; both mentally and physically. What we loved most about the Aerial Park is that you go at your own pace. There is no rush. Brittany was able to go slower, and myself, race through it as fast as I could. If you are ever in Salida, Colorado, definitely check out Captain Zipline. You can check out more information at thetradingtravelers.com/forced-to-face-my-fears-at-the-captain-zipline-aerial-park

Captain Zipline Lost Mine Tour - Salida, Colorado
SALIDA, COLORADO - Most mines should be viewed from a distance as they are often left in unsafe condition. The Lost Mine Tour provides locals and visitors to Central Colorado the opportunity to access a state-inspected mine and to travel back in time.
Tours depart from the Captain Zipline Visitor Center where guests board a 6WD Pinzgauer High-Mobility All-Terrain Vehicle. The road to the Lost Mine transports guests millions of years through the geologic past and provides a first-hand experience to what underground mining was like at the end of the nineteenth century. The tour passes the Wellsville Fold and Wellsville travertine quarry which supplied the finest marble outside of Italy in the 1920’s. A steep drop takes guests past colorful rock outcroppings to an 1890’s lime kiln, before angling up toward the mine.
The first stop is the kid's cave which formed under an inland ocean 200 million years ago. Around the next bend, a tipple and chute, structures used to load extracted manganese ore into mule-pulled wagons, alerts guests to the mining activity which took place almost a hundred years ago. More ore delivery structures and old ore cars greet guests as they approach the entrance to the Iron Mountain Mine.
Once at the mine, guests don hardhats and lights. Then, its into the mine past high grade ore body, swirling mineral coated crevices and through the preserved shoring timbers to a mineral coated cavern. At journey’s end, guests are treated to a crystal coated cavern rich with dolomite, gypsum and calcite deposits that glow under UV light.
