Rare Shark Feeding Frenzy in North Carolina
On Thursday, October 9 at around noon, while at a retreat at Cape Lookout National Seashore off the coast of North Carolina, the leaders of One Harbor Church witnessed a shark feeding frenzy. The men were out fishing for the evening’s dinner when they stumbled across more than 100 sharks attacking a school of blue fish. As seagulls and pelicans joined in on the meal, the men began to cast into the surf, catching fish without the use of bait. For more than five minutes, the sharks were observed swimming in and out of the surf, some of which became beached in the fury. Donnie Griggs, the cameraman who captured the footage, is an avid waterman who spearfishes, dives, swims and surfs at Cape Lookout often. We want it to be clear that Cape Lookout and the surrounding beaches of Eastern North Carolina are extremely safe for swimming. The presence of these sharks and large schools of fish is actually a sign of a very healthy ecosystem.

Shark Attack Victim In North Carolina Speaks Out About Terrifying Encounter | TODAY
Holden Beach, NC from 1217ft Up - Sunset Sky Cam
Ranked among the Top 10 Family Beaches in the US by National Geographic's, TRAVELER Magazine, Holden Beach is a barrier island, located on the southern coast of North Carolina.
In 1756 Benjamin Holden purchased the island now known as Holden Beach. His family farmed and fished here for generations. They began developing the resort community that thrives today in the 1920s. It maintains its nostalgic appeal today with low density and limited commercialism.
The bridge that connects the mainland to Holden Beach rises 65 feet above the Intracoastal Waterway, provides a breathtaking view of the ocean and a sweeping entry to the island as visitors come across it. The beach and the ocean are the main attractions in this town, which prides itself on a restful, quiet lifestyle.
With 9 miles of oceanfront, Holden Beach is the longest and the largest of the three islands in the group known as the South Brunswick Islands. The island is a jogger's paradise and, as of this writing, the town is applying for funds from the N.C. Department of Transportation to prepare a plan for bicycling in town.
Approximately 930 year-round residents call Holden Beach home, and though the population swells to more than 10,000 during the season, visitors find a host of opportunities for assimilating themselves into this exceedingly quiet community. Boating, surf fishing and hiking the island are very popular activities.
There is a fishing pier, and the island is a sea turtle habitat as well. While there are limited commercial establishments on the island, the causeway leading to the island is lined with specialty stores and shops and a Food Lion grocery store. The Town of Shallotte, just 10 minutes, away has several shopping centers, which include grocery stores and national chain department stores.
A little more than 30 minutes away you will find Wilmington and Myrtle Beach, and there are numerous golf courses nearby.
The Town of Holden Beach was listed in the 2007 AAA Beach Vacation Travel Journal as one of the top 30 beaches in the country.
Holden Beach made the list of the 38 Best American Beaches in the July/August 2007 edition of National Geographic Smart Traveler magazine, and has officially received National Healthy Beach status through the National Healthy Beaches Campaign.

NORTH CAROLINA SURFER SUFFERS SHARK ATTACK, TELLS BROTHER 'YO, I GOT BIT BY A SHARK'

A surfer suffered a shark bite while in the water off the coast of North Carolina Monday.
According to 2CNY NEWS, a shark of unspecified species bit 19-year-old Austin Reed as he surfed with his brothers at Ocean Isle Beach.
Reed was taken to New Hanover Hospital in Wilmington for surgery on his foot and is expected to make a full recovery.
He said 'Yo, I got bit by a shark!', his brother Ethan Reed told 2CNY NEWS.
And Austin is one to goof around a lot—so Tyler thought he was just kidding. And he looked at his foot and realized he wasn't, so they got on Tyler's board and he brought him in
Earlier in June, a teenage girl lost a leg and some fingers in another North Carolina shark attack.
The 17-year-old, Paige Winter, was swimming at a beach close to Fort Macon State Park when the shark attacked.
Her father punched the shark in the face several times before it let go, leaving her with deep lacerations to her leg, pelvis, and hands
