Beau Cougar gets a meal
Beau is a cougar who was rescued as an orphan in the wilds of Washington state and brought to Carolina Tiger Rescue in Pittsboro, NC. Most of our animals get a whole-carcass diet because the bones and marrow are so nourishing, but Beau is still a juvenile, so he gets boneless meat.

Carolina Tiger Rescue meets Yashira Tiger, one of its newest rescues
Yashira was the first tiger from Friday's four-cat rescue to enter into our quarantine building. She was quite nervous, as you can tell from her paw staying up on the crate most of the time. She was settled by the following morning, though!
39 Tigers: The story of the largest tiger rescue in US history.
39 Tigers — a documentary by William Nimmo, founder of Tigers in America.
In April of 2003, government officials executed a search warrant on a pseudo-sanctuary operated under the name Colton Tiger Rescue in Colton, California. During their search of the owner's residence, they discovered 90 dead tiger carcasses, including 58 baby tigers dead in a freezer. Thirteen other cats were barely alive. The State of California seized control of Colton Tiger Rescue. Criminal charges were brought against the owner.
Homes were found for the healthiest big cats; 39 tigers remained.
The Performing Animal Welfare Society (PAWS) agreed to take the remaining tigers. After enormous volunteer support, rehabilitation and a massive fundraising effort to construct 10 acres of habitat at PAWS' ARK 2000 captive wildlife sanctuary in San Andreas, California, 39 tigers were moved to their new home in what is still considered the largest tiger rescue in US history.
Read PAWS' June 2014 newsletter spotlighting the 10 year anniversary of the Colton tiger rescue here:
Tigers in America was founded by William Nimmo in 2012 to address the issue of captive-bred tigers in the U.S. by providing financial support for tiger rescues and the true sanctuaries that provide a lifetime home for these cats. Key activities include primary vet care, coordination and transport for abused and abandoned tigers, and the construction of permanent enclosures at the best tiger sanctuaries in America. Their motto is “No tiger will suffer or die in this country because he or she cannot afford to see a doctor or get a ride home.” Mr. Nimmo was formerly a Managing Director at Smith Barney and Senior Vice President at Citigroup. He lives in New York City with his wife Kizmin and their three rescued black cats.
Texas Tiger Rescue
3 Tigers rescued from Wild Animal Orphanage (WAO), a San Antonio, Texas sanctuary that went bankrupt in 2010. In 2003, Wild Animal Orphanage (WAO) took in 24 tigers that had been living at a New Jersey facility that was shut down by the state. After declaring bankruptcy in 2010, WAO contacted the Global Federation of Animal Sanctuaries and other organizations for help in placing these tigers and the rest of their big cats at other sanctuaries.
WAO struggled for over a year to find permanent homes for all of their cats because it is hard to place a big cat who will cost $10,000 per year in food and vet care.
Amazingly, an anonymous donor couple who had known these tigers as cubs fortuitously stepped in to fund the ongoing care of three lucky tigers who are coming to Big Cat Rescue. Your donation today helps us continue our work to end the trade in big cats and makes it possible for us to rescue others and provide permanent care to more than 100+ big cats who call Big Cat Rescue home.

Watch Raj sneak up our guide. Good thing the fence is there. Carolina Tiger Rescue is one of our favorite places in North Carolina and they do such important work.
Exotic animals should never be kept as pets or owned by private individuals but unfortunately there are few (if any in some states) that ban this practice - shameful.

Listening is a more natural way of learning, when compared to reading. Written language only began at around 3200 BC, but spoken language has existed long ago.
Learning by listening is a great way to:
- increases imagination and understanding
- improves your listening skills
- improves your own spoken accent
- learn while on the move
- reduce eye strain
Now learn the vast amount of general knowledge available on Wikipedia through audio (audio article). You could even learn subconsciously by playing the audio while you are sleeping! If you are planning to listen a lot, you could try using a bone conduction headphone, or a standard speaker instead of an earphone.
