He made his first major appearance in the made-for-television biographical movie ‘Elvis’, which is considered one the finest performances of his career. After he partnered with director John Carpenter, he played some of the most memorable characters in his films, the most popular of them being ‘Snake Plissken’, the villain in Carpenter’s cult classic ‘Escape from New York’. Some of his other powerful performances were in movies like, ‘Silkwood’, ‘Backdraft’, ‘Big Trouble In Little China’, ‘Stargate’, ‘Grindhouse’ and his most outstanding role as ‘R.J. MacReady’ in Carpenter's gory cult movie, ‘The Thing’. As the son of actor Neil Oliver ‘Bing’ Russell, Kurt grew up in and around the entertainment industry that gave him many opportunities to pursue a career in the field. He was an avid and passionate baseball player but unfortunately retired form the game due to shoulder injuries.
-----------------------------
Childhood & Early Life
Kurt Russell was born in Springfield, Massachusetts, USA to actor and baseball club owner Neil Oliver ‘Bing’ Russell and Louise Julia, a dancer.
As a child, he lived a vibrant life and gained exposure to the world of films as a result of his father’s career. He appeared as a child artiste in the ABC television series ‘Sugarfoot’.
By the time he was twelve years old, he starred in the television series called ‘The Travels of Jamie McPheeters’.
In 1964, he appeared on an episode of the TV series ‘The Fugitive’, that year he was also seen in the TV series ‘The Virginian’ and ‘Gunsmoke’.
In 1965, at the age of fourteen he played the role of ‘jungle boy’ on ‘Gilligan’s Island’ which was broadcast on the CBS network.
In 1969, he graduated from the Thousand Oaks High School and soon after signed a ten year contract with Walt Disney.
----------------------
Career

In 1979, he earned an Emmy Award nomination for the television film ‘Elvis’ based on the real life of Elvis Presley, in which he played the title role.

In 1982, he played the role of ‘MacReady’ in the ‘The Thing’, a sci-fi horror film which was a remake of the 1951 film ‘The Thing from Another World’. The film was a financial failure but gained a cult status.
In 1984, he received a Golden Globe nomination for his role as ‘Drew Stephens’ alongside Meryl Streep in the film ‘Silkwood’. The film was inspired by the life of Karen Silkwood, a labour union activist who died mysteriously.
In 1986, he played the part of a truck driver caught in an ancient Chinese war in ‘Big Trouble In Little China’, a martial arts inspired comedy film which received mixed reviews from critics.
In 1991, he played the role of ‘Capt. Dennis McCaffery’ in the action thriller ‘Backdraft’, directed by Ron Howard. The film received three Academy Award nominations and was a huge commercial success.
In 1994, he played the role of ‘’Colonel Jack O'Neil’ in ‘Stargate’, a film directed by Roland Emmerich. It received a mixed reception but gained a cult following worldwide.

Fuquan Johnson Talks Stand Up Comedy | BHL's Stand-Up, Sit-Down
Make sure to subscribe to BHL! -
BHL: Stand-up, Sit-down -- In this episode, Black Hollywood Live host Nick Perdue interviews comedian Fuquan Johnson.
Born and raised in New Jersey, Fuquan Johnson focussed in on his career goals while in High School. As a teenager, Fuquan became notorious amongst his peers for cracking jokes in class. In High School, he realized he wanted to do comedy after watching Eddie Murphy’s “RAW”. “The moment I saw Eddie Murphy doing stand up, a light bulb went off in my head and I knew that I was destined to be a Comedian”. Connecting with his middle school friend, Damien Dante’ Wayans (nephew to the infamous Wayans Brothers), Fuquan expressed his desire to pursue comedy as a career. Damien introduced young Fuquan to his uncle, Damon Wayans.
Upon graduating from High School, Fuquan attended HB Studios for Acting located in Greenwhich Village in New York City where actors such as Oscar Winning Actor Sidney Poitier, Debbie Allen, Al Pacino, and Scott Wolf also got their start. Getting his feet wet within the entertainment industry, he completed work as an Extra for notable TNT movies such as “Passing Glory” and “Freedom Song”.
In 2004, Fuquan moved to LA where he was hired as an Extra for several episodes of the television ABC sitcom, “My Wife & Kids”. Not waiting for the next opportunity to fall into his lap, Fuquan earned his first comedic dollar at the Family Room Bar in Compton, Los Angeles. “I made about twenty-five bucks but I was ecstatic”, recalls Fuquan. When asked to describe himself, Fuquan states, “I am witty with a hard edge. I think outside the box. When I’m on stage, I talk about my crazy life experiences”.
From 2009-2011, a huge break came when Fuquan toured all of North America as the opening act for Shawn and Marlon Wayans. “I traveled to every state in America and Canada. It was an experience to be remembered”, states Fuquan. Gracing the stage to notorious venues such as Caroline’s in New York, all of the Improvs, Tommy T’s, Pepper Bellies in California, Standup New York, and many more, Fuquan was able to establish himself in the world of Comedy.
Stating his influences as Eddie Murphy, Richard Pryor, the Wayans Family, Lenny Bruce, and George Collins, Fuquan aspires to be a Staff Writer and Actor on shows such as Saturday Night LIVE, gain a few short films in the bucket, act in blockbuster hits, and headline in sold out venues. In his spare time, Fuquan loves to write, shoot sketches, and play basketball.

Christopher Columbus: What Really Happened

An educational animation which recounts the four voyages of Columbus. Hope you enjoy!
Bibliography at bottom of description
AUTHOR'S NOTE: This video is meant to give a non-bias account of the events which unfolded when Columbus and his crew made contact with the people of the Caribbean. Of course, I was not able to fit everything into the video; I had to omit details, such as the fact that the Taino were not the only people that Columbus encountered (there were also the Ciguayo tribe and Carib cannibals). A second particular is that not all fault should lie directly on Columbus' shoulders. His crew of 1,200 for the second journey consisted partly of convicts and landless nobles, the worst type of people with which to build a settlement. Another fact is that Columbus grew up in societies (Genoa, then Portugal) that kept domestic slaves.
I have no political agenda for making this video. I am a student of history and I have tried to give an account of Columbus' journeys that is as close as we can possibly get to the truth.
I will I admit that I am not a fan of Columbus. I think he was cruel, even for his time. We cannot judge a 15th-century human from a 21st-century perspective; but even for the 15th century, he was an awful arbiter.

We, The Creatives: Joe Clair
Well as if stand-up and television were not enough, Joe Clair added radio personality to his list of job titles. Starting as co-host on the Sunday Night Hip Hop Show on D.C.'s WPGC, Joe Clair expanded his audience even further. The morning show quickly shot to the number one slot in the city. After two and a half years of radio, Joe Clair left to focus on comedy, thus the move to New York City.
Joe Clair announced to friends and family on New Years Day 1998 that he was going to pursue a rap career. Unbeknownst to everyone except for a few close friends, Joe Clair had started working on a rap album near the end of 1997. The label's first project Clair's Seriously Funny is highly anticipated and promises to live up to and enhance what Joe Clair has come to stand for as an entertainer. Joe Clair is unique in the fact that he is a comic turned rapper. He says however that the two are not separate things for him. They are just different parts of my expression and creative force.
Joe Clair has numerous amounts of television and film exposure to his credit. Joe Clair has been a stable on Black Entertainment Television's RAP CITY for over five (5) years now. He was the host of Black Entertainment Television's MADD SPORTS. Joe Clair has also been featured in the motion pictures TRAIN RIDE and HIGH FEQUENCY. HBO DEF COMEDY JAM, BET's COMIC VIEW, and SNAPS were also some of his best television work to date. HBO loved his work so much that he was a constant performer on the HBO's DEF COMEDY JAM tours that showcased dates throughout the United States. Joe Clair has also been featured at the top comedy clubs in the nation (UPTOWN COMEDY CORNER, CAROLINES, IMPROV, LAFF HOUSE, etc.). Joe Clair was recently added to headline numerous dates on the nations' top college tour. His skills include: Character Impersonations (Celebrity/ Cartoon), Comedy writer, Pizza Maker, Poet, Songwriter, and Rapper.
Joe Clair plans to continue his quest for the perfect joke. However, in addition he will usher in a new era in his career as rapper, producer, and songwriter. He also now wears the hat of CEO. Amusingly he says that the skills he developed as a student at Morgan State University (B. A. Psychology) are finally being put into practice as he juggles the rigors of performing and running a company and all the responsibilities that come with each. When questioned about the substantial size of the workload he is committing himself to he humbly replies, My mother worked a forty (40) hour a week job and was a full time student with two (2) kids in college and two (2) at home and maintained a household on her own; if she could do that I am sure I can do this. With an ethic like that, it seems Joe Clair has made entertainment his life's work and after all that's what he decided to do years ago.
You just can not go wrong booking JOE CLEEZY CLAIR on your next comedy concert because he will surely tickle any crowds' funnybone. Joe Clair is the type of comedian that will not stop performing until he feels the crowd has received their moneys worth and he has nothing more to give a crowd.
