High Speed Video Through the Carrizo Plain in California
This is video of a drive I took driving northbound on Soda Lake Road through the beautiful Carrizo Plain in eastern San Luis Obispo County, from State Route 166 to State Route 58 on the north. This is the high speed version, at 285% of normal playback speed. Any dissolves you see are simply from having to dump the video off of the camera to clear memory, and then continuing on. No mileage is missed out.
I reduced playback down to 100% speed during one short portion of the drive in which we stopped at the Soda Lake Overlook Rest Stop. Soda Lake was dry during this time because we had a tremendous drought in California. Then, the playback goes back to high speed again for the duration of the video.

I take a trip down to Southern California to do some more exploring of the Carrizo Plain. I check out some abandoned ranches and ancient native pictographs in the area. Please excuse me for referring to the pictographs as petroglyph's. Hope you enjoy the video. Thanks for watching !

The lake is located on the southwest side of the northern Carrizo Plain, 103 km (64 mi) east of San Luis Obispo. It can be reached by Soda Lake Road, which runs northwest–southeast between State Route 166 and State Route 58. The lake is at an elevation of 580 m (1,900 ft) and covers an area of about 12 km2 (4.6 sq mi).

Listening is a more natural way of learning, when compared to reading. Written language only began at around 3200 BC, but spoken language has existed long ago.

Now learn the vast amount of general knowledge available on Wikipedia through audio (audio article). You could even learn subconsciously by playing the audio while you are sleeping! The Carrizo Plain (Obispeño: tšɨłkukunɨtš, Place of the rabbits ) is a large enclosed grassland plain, approximately 50 miles (80 km) long and up to 15 miles (24 km) across, in southeastern San Luis Obispo County, California, about 100 miles (160 km) northwest of Los Angeles. It contains the 246,812-acre (99,881 ha) Carrizo Plain National Monument, and it is the largest single native grassland remaining in California. It includes Painted Rock in the Carrizo Plain Rock Art Discontiguous District, which is listed on the National Register of Historic Places. In 2012 it was further designated a National Historic Landmark due to its archeological value. The San Andreas Fault cuts across the plain.

The Ventura, Los Angeles, and San Bernardino areas continue to shake due to reverberation within their underlying soft sedimentary basins.
Petascale simulations such as this one are needed to understand the rupture and wave dynamics of the largest earthquakes, at shaking frequencies required to engineer safe structures, said Thomas Jordan, Director of the Southern California Earthquake Center.
San Diego Supercomputer Center (SDSC) researchers provided the high-performance computing and scientific visualization expertise for the simulation. Scientific details of the earthquake were developed by scientists at San Diego State University (SDSU). Ohio State University (OSU) researchers were also part of the collaborative effort to improve the efficiency of the software involved.
At the 2010 Supercomputer Conference in New Orleans, this animation was selected as a Gordon Bell Prize finalist.
