Campground review: Carter Lake. 2nd largest lake in Colorado, 12mi of shoreline. 96 sites, 13mi west of I25 (west of Berthoud and Loveland). 5 campgrounds (Eagle, South Shore, North Pines, Big Thompson, and Carter Knolls). No dump at campgrounds, but just east of Carter Lake. $7 fee to Larimer County Parks + nightly camping fee. Fishing, swimming, boating. Very popular, crowded on weekends.

The Chimney Hollow Reservoir will be near Carter Lake.

Two men die after crashing plane into Larimer County reservoir

A small plane crashed in Culver Reservoir west of Berthoud early Monday morning, killing two men. The two were estimated to have been submerged for 50 minutes before being removed from the aircraft in and transported to an area hospital.
