The Rock of Cashel
The Rock of Cashel is an ancient royal site of the kings of Munster and first attained importance as a fortress. Its origins as a centre of power go back to the 4th or 5th centuries. Two of the most famous people of Irish legend and history are associated with the Rock of Cashel. They are St. Patrick whom according to legend, arrived in Cashel in AD 432 and baptized King Aengus who became Ireland’s first Christian ruler. The second was Brian Boru, he was crowned High King here in 990. He is the only king who was able to unite all of Ireland under one ruler for any significant period of time.
The Rock of Cashel is one of Ireland’s most visited sites, and is a spectacular and archaeological site. A collection of medieval ecclesiastical buildings set on an outcrop of limestone in the Golden Vale. The 12th-century round tower is of the oldest surviving building on the Rock, also include a high cross, and the ruins Romanesque chapel - Cormac's Chapel is one of the earliest, and finest churches built in the Romanesque style. The 13th-century Gothic cathedral is a large cruciform Gothic church without aisles built between 1230 and 1270. Also a 15th-century castle and the Hall of the Vicars is the entry point to the ecclesiastical enclosure. The Hall houses the museum where the original Cross of St. Patrick can be found.

Nenagh Castle - County Tipperary - Ireland
This fine Norman Keep was built c1200 by Theobald Walter, 1st Baron Butler and completed by his son Theobald le Botiller c1220. The circular keep is over thirty metres high, and has a base of sixteen metres and is one of the finest of its kind in Ireland. The crown of mock crenellations and ring of clerestory windows were added at the instigation of Bishop Michael Flannery in 1861. The intention was that the keep would become the Bell tower of a Pugin-designed cathedral which was never built. Though not true to historic character these additions have ensured the iconic status of the keep which ensures that it features on the logos of many local clubs and businesses including Nenagh Town Council. The Castle and grounds were extensive renovated between 2009 and 2013. This project is aimed to position the castle as the main tourist attraction in the area. It is now open to the public
Walk with Willibrord, Saturday 24 June 2017, St Laserian's Cathedral, Old Leighlin, Co. Carlow
'Walk with Willibrord' took place on Saturday 24th, June 2017, to honour the historical connection between county Carlow and Echternach, Luxembourg. St. Willibrord and his companions were trained at Rath Melsigi, in the present day Roman Catholic Parish of Tinryland and the Church of Ireland parish of Nurney, county Carlow. They embarked on their mission from Carlow in AD 690. In June, celebrations took place in both Echternach, Luxembourg and in county Carlow. The Most Reverend Denis Nulty, Bishop of Kildare and Leighlin and the Right Reverend Michael Burrows, Bishop of Cashel, Waterford, Lismore, Ferns, Ossory and Leighlin led a joint ecumenical diocesan pilgrimage from Carlow to Echternach. There they were presented with a Relic of St. Willibrord and partook in the UNESCO World Heritage Status annual ‘hopping procession’ in honour of St. Willibrord, the first known Irish group to partake in this centuries old procession. On Saturday 24th, June 2017, with visitors from Echternach, the ‘Walk with Willibrord’ was undertaken where the Relic was walked over 13 km from St Laserian’s Cathedral, Old Leighlin, Carlow oldest working building, to its permanent home in the Cathedral of the Assumption, College Street, Carlow town. The video shows the start of the walk as it leaves the grounds of St. Laserian’s Cathedral, Old Leighlin where members of the Killeshin Pipe Band lead the walk with the Relic travelling in the Carlow Civil Defence vehicle. Kilkenny Ireland
Kilkenny Ireland (2003).
Kilkenny (Irish: Cill Chainnigh, meaning church of Cainnech) is a city located in south-east part of Ireland and the county town of County Kilkenny. It is on both banks of the River Nore in the province of Leinster. The city is administered by a Borough Council and a Mayor which is a level below that of city council in the Local government of the state although the Local Government Act 2001 allows for the continued use of the description city. The borough has a population of 8,711, however the majority of the population live outside the borough boundary, the 2011 Irish Census gives the total population of the Borough & Environs as 24,423.
Kilkenny is a popular tourist destination. In 2009 the City of Kilkenny celebrated its 400th year since the granting of city status in 1609. Kilkenny's heritage is evident in the city and environs including the historic buildings such as Kilkenny Castle, St. Canice's Cathedral and round tower, Rothe House, Shee Alms House, Black Abbey, St. Mary's Cathedral, Kilkenny Town Hall, St. Francis Abbey, Grace's Castle, and St. John's Priory. Kilkenny is regarded for its culture with craft and design workshops, the Watergate Theatre, public gardens and museums. Annual events include Kilkenny Art Festival, the Cat Laughs comedy festival and music at the Rhythm and Roots festival and the Source concert. It is a popular base to explore the surrounding towns, villages and countryside. Controversy exists at the moment around the Kilkenny Central Access Scheme which is a road proposed to be built through the city centre.
Kilkenny began with an early sixth century ecclesiastical foundation within the kingdom of Ossory. Following Norman invasion of Ireland, Kilkenny Castle and a series of walls were built to protect the burghers of what became a Norman merchant town. William Marshall, Lord of Leinster, gave Kilkenny a charter as a town in 1207. By the late thirteenth century Kilkenny was under Norman-Irish control. The Statutes of Kilkenny passed at Kilkenny in 1367, aimed to curb the decline of the Hiberno-Norman Lordship of Ireland. In 1609 King James I of England granted Kilkenny a Royal Charter giving it the status of a city. Following the Rebellion of 1641, the Irish Catholic Confederation, also known as the Confederation of Kilkenny, was based in Kilkenny and lasted until the Cromwellian conquest of Ireland in 1649. Kilkenny was a famous brewing centre from the late seventeenth century. In the late twentieth century Kilkenny is a tourist and creative centre.
The Heritage Council offices are located at Church Lane. The seat of the Roman Catholic Bishop of Ossory is at St. Mary's Cathedral and the Church of Ireland Bishop of Cashel and Ossory is at St. Canice's Cathedral. Nearby larger cities include Waterford 45 kilometres (28 mi) south-southeast, Limerick 93 kilometres (58 mi) west and Dublin 101 kilometres (63 mi) northeast.

SS Stakesby July 8, 1823 -Cobh Ireland to Canada
June, 2015, while in Ireland with her husband Mack, Kathryn is wandering through the Cobh Heritage Museum just a half hour before they were to close when she walks in to a dark room. Alone in the room, all the sudden a motion activated Hologram popped up and it was a man welcoming her in as the “Captain of the SS Stakesby”. She immediately recognized the name of the ship as the one her ancestors, the Mara’s sailed out of Cobh, Ireland on. When he went on to say “Today is July 8, 1823” she almost fell over! This was the exact date and ship that the manifest in her purse showed the Mara’s sailed to Canada on 192 years earlier! The British government had hired Peter Robinson to supervise 2 ship loads of Irish to Canada. They had offered mostly poor, mostly Catholic and some Protestants families, land grants in Canada. It turned out to be so successful that several more ships left Ireland again with Peter Robinson in 1825. Within 2 years over 2500 Irish sailed out of Cobh, Ireland to Canada and they are now known as the “The Peter Robinson Settlers”.

Exploring Lubart's Castle: Ukraine's famous architectural landmark is one of the oldest in Europe
Discover Ukraine through its cultural and architectural heritage. A visit to the Western city of Lutsk will bring you to the famous Lubart's castle.
Lutsk is believed to be 930 years old, the western city was first mentioned in historical manuscripts in 1085. Now it's a modern city with a historical center full of ancient churches, temples, squares, and monuments.
During the Middle Ages the castle withstood a great deal of attacks from Turkish and Tatar forces. Both of them failed and only Cossack chiefman Severyn Nalyvaiko managed to capture the fortress.
Except for the building itself, the Lubart's castle attracts visitors with its new exhibitions. For example the recently restored bell museum, on display is a 370-year-old bell- one of the oldest in the country.
