Hatton is a town in the Nuwara Eliya District of Central Province, Sri Lanka, is a major centre of the Sri Lankan tea industry.
Hatton is one of the busiest cities in the hill country of Sri Lanka and is colloquially known as the tea capital of the country, as it is the central point for most upcountry tea growing regions, such as Maskeliya, Talawakelle, Bogawantalawa and Dickoya.
Hatton was founded during the British colonial times in order to serve the coffee plantations and latter tea estates. The name of the town refers to the village in Aberdeenshire, Scotland. A number of the surrounding tea estates are also named after Scottish villages.
Hatton serves as a gateway to Adam's Peak (Sri Pada) and Sinharaja Forest Reserve, but is well known for its Ceylon tea plantations (wikipedia).
You will have an amazing experience in middle of tea estates blending with locals. Yes this is the town gives birth to most of the Ceylon Tea cups you taste.
Gorgeous Castlereigh Reservoir, is almost entirely maintained by the inflow of water from the Kehalgamu Oya. Water from the reservoir is diverted to the Wimalasurendra Power Station, located approximately 12 km (7.5 mi) further downstream near Norton Bridge.
Castlereigh Reservoir is located approximately 83 km (52 mi) southeast of Colombo and 44 km (27 mi) south of Kandy, at an elevation of 1,271 m (4,170 ft) above sea level.

* Use reusable water bottles, plates and cups. Even paper cups/plates are harmful and take years to decompose.
* Remain quiet and vigilant. Don’t disturb the tranquility of the nature. Respect wildlife and don’t disturb them in anyway. Also be considerate of other trekkers.
* Please collect and bring any litter/garbage left behind by other careless travellers.
* Don’t light fires unnecessarily and do try to use portable cookers instead of using firewood when camping. If you must, only use firewood on the ground and don’t cut any trees for this.
* Don’t bring any plants back with you or cut any trees/branches unnecessarily..
* Don’t use soap/ shampoo when bathing in natural streams as they contaminate them and kill wildlife.
* Don’t do anything that harms the Mother Nature.
