About this video: In this video Seez Santos, BrandonON and Sonny Lynn go to Mount Charleston Cathedral Rock Trail Nevada in the winter. Cathedral Rock Trail Head is one of the eleven best trails located in Spring Mountain National Recreation Area. The trail begins in Mazie Canyon with ponderosa and white fir but soon nears aspen. In the summer, this is one of the most colorful areas when the wildflowers are blooming and the butterflies are fluttering. It is a major avalanche path in the winter. About halfway up the trail is a waterfall just off the trail with is a short, old road leading to it. As the trail goes up out of the canyon toward the back of Cathedral Rock one gets a view of the avalanche chute below. The trail climbs a few short, steep switchbacks before reaching the summit, with a spectacular view of Kyle Canyon. Hiking the Spring Mountains that are located near Las Vegas are a sight to see! I hope that I will be able to bring you more content like this ????

Mount Charleston Peak Summit South Loop Trail - VIDEO TOUR (Las Vegas, NV)
Here is a video from the latter part of the South Loop Trail of Charleston Peak near Las Vegas!
-----
The best way up and down Mount Charleston is to climb the South Loop, then head back down on the North Trail (or vice versa). Both trails lead to the summit! So by doing this, you create a great loop rather than an out and back!
Charleston Peak South Trail is a 16.1 mile moderately trafficked out and back trail located near Mount Charleston, Nevada that features beautiful wild flowers and is rated as difficult. The trail offers a number of activity options and is best used from May until October. Dogs are also able to use this trail but must be kept on leash.
Distance: 16.1 miles
Elevation Gain: 4,885 feet
Route Type: Out & Back
Charleston Peak North Trail is a 19.4 mile moderately trafficked out and back trail located near Mount Charleston, Nevada that features beautiful wild flowers and is rated as difficult. The trail is primarily used for hiking, nature trips, and bird watching and is best used from March until September. Dogs are also able to use this trail but must be kept on leash.
Distance: 19.4 miles
Elevation Gain: 5,518 feet
Route Type: Out & Back
-------------
The South Loop Trail follows a series of switchbacks as it climbs the backside of Echo Cliffs. There's a great overlook at the top of Echo Cliffs (two miles from the trailhead); Kyle Canyon, Mummy Mountain, and Cathedral Rock can be viewed from this overlook.
The trail leaves the overlook and heads west with a gradual incline. It crosses drainage and starts a series of switchbacks that leads to the South Rim Plateau. Many of the switchbacks on the north end offer grand views of Kyle Canyon, Cathedral Rock, and Mummy Mountain. The landscape changes into a meadow before reaching the plateau. The last 100 yards are steep, but the view of Griffith Peak helps ease the pain. Upon reaching the plateau, a sign indicates the distances to Charleston Peak, Harris Saddle, and back to Kyle Canyon (the trailhead). The elevation is 10,700 feet; the distance to this point is four miles.
The trail heads west and soon enters a delightful meadow. This part of the trail is referred to as The Meadows and is a favorite spot for campers. The grade is slight with a few downhill sections. Charleston Peak comes into view several times during the ramble through the meadow.
The Meadows gives way to a grove of timber as the trail heads west and the grade increases. The trail hugs the ridgeline for more than half a mile, offering remarkable views of Kyle Canyon, Mt. Charleston Lodge, and State Route 157. Directly across the canyon is Mummy Mountain, and to the (west) left is North Ridge Rim.
The trail turns away from the ridgeline and heads SW before it climbs to another ridge. Off to the left is an unnamed peak that many hikers mistake for Mt. Charleston. The trail rises to a saddle and Mt. Charleston ridgeline comes into view. The trail heads NW toward the summit and away from the false peak. About 150 yards past the saddle a faint path to the south (left) travels down to Peak Springs. There's a sign marking the turnoff, but it's easily missed. The half-mile trek down to Peak Springs is very steep and you lose 900 feet in elevation.
Due to the wind and elevation, the landscape becomes harsh. Bristlecone pines are reduced to twisted dwarfs. You're above 11,000 feet at this point, but luckily the incline is moderate. Charleston Peak looks more like a ridge than a summit from this angle. Just off the trail to the right are the remains of a 1955 plane crash.
The last half-mile to the peak is a steep 20% grade. Just before the peak the trail forks. Both trails go to the peak; however, the main trail is less steep. The wind can be harsh above the treeline. Bring a windbreaker. It's important to drink plenty of water before this final ascent. One cause of altitude sickness is a lack of water!

Mary Jane Falls Hike Mt Charleston Nevada
A one hour drive from Las Vegas is Mount Charleston. Temperature drops roughly about 20 degrees and it's a great place to hike in the summer and fall. The 2.5 mile Mary Jane Falls Trail is one of the most popular hikes at Charleston. The views all around are spectacular. The Falls itself are nothing to brag about but the cave a little bit past the falls is awesome! Great place to chill and take in the beautiful views. If you ever come out to Las Vegas and you want to get a different change of scenery, I highly recommend coming here and doing this hike. For directions and Hiking info
Loneliest Road in America #1: Cedar City, Utah- Panaca, Nevada - Cathedral Gorge, Nevada 2016-06-05
This video begins a full-day drive from the southern Utah city of Cedar City to Reno in far west Nevada, featuring green spring time desert hills and fields. At video #3 of this day's drive, the trip joins US 50, nicknamed The Loneliest Road in America, though the traffic is light and the road lonely enough for carefree driving long before reaching US 50.

Panaca was southern Nevada's first permanent settlement, founded as a Mormon colony in 1864. It was originally part of Washington County, Utah, but the congressional redrawing of boundaries in 1866 shifted Panaca into Nevada. It is the only community in Nevada to be dry (forbidding the sale of alcoholic beverages), and the only community in Nevada besides Boulder City that prohibits gambling.

Hiking Mary Jane Falls Trail in Las Vegas Nevada | Snow at Mount Charleston
???? SUBSCRIBE -
In this video I take you along on my hike through Mary Jane Falls Trail located at Mount Charleston. This hike and beautiful trail is found just under 1-hour outside of Las Vegas Nevada. I visited this trail in April of 2019 and there was still plenty of snow on the ground although it was beginning to melt.
If you are looking for things to do in Las Vegas that are off the strip, then look no further than Mt Charleston especially if you are visiting in the Winter/Spring. Overall this is an excellent hike and I would highly recommend doing it!
My tips for hiking this trail would be:
- Wear Snow Boots if going during times with snow on the ground
- Stay the trail as much as you can to avoid back-tracking
- Bring plenty of water and snacks

day trip to Mt. Charleston, Nevada
Video from a day trip to Mt. Charleston, Nevada. About an hours drive from the LV Strip. A great trip that takes you from the desert to the mountains. On the day we visited the temperature was about 30 degrees cooler up there than it was back in the city. The lodge you'll see in the video is the Mt. Charleston Lodge. You can stop and eat there, they rent small cabins too.
We took the Mt. Charleston Scenic Drive, also called the Spring Mountain Scenic Drive. Hwy 156,157 & 158

Some facts of Red Rock!
AZTEC SANDSTONE
The great sandstone cliffs at Red Rock, thousands of feet high, are made up of the Aztec Sandstone. This formation, about 180 - 190 million years old, is comprised of lithified sand dunes that formed in a vast desert that covered a large part of the southwestern United States during the Jurassic time. Lithification is the process of changing unconsolidated sediment into sedimentary rock. Massive cross-bedding, typical of aeolian (wind) deposits, is a result of the shifting wind direction across the Jurassic dune field and is seen in the Aztec sandstone.
RED COLOR
The red color of some of the outcrops of the Aztec Sandstone is due to presence of iron oxide or hematite. Exposure to the elements caused iron minerals to oxidize or “rust,” resulting in red, orange, and brown-colored rocks. Areas where the rock is buff in color may be places where the iron has been leached out by subsurface water, or where the iron oxide was never deposited.
DINOSAURS
The tracks of small bipedal (two-footed) therapod (meat-eating) dinosaurs have been found in the Aztec Sandstone at Red Rock Canyon in three different places. The small animal tracks made by proto-mammals, early mammals, and arachnids (spiders and scorpions) were also found. Paleontologists are still researching these site.
LIMESTONE
More than 500 million years ago Red Rock Canyon NCA was at the bottom of an ocean basin. Mostly limestone (and dolomite) accumulated in this ocean basin for over 250 million years during the Paleozoic Era. The limestones contain the fossils of sea life that flourished during that time. Thousands of feet of the gray Paleozoic limestones are exposed at LaMadre Mountain to the northwest of the Scenic Loop.
2016-01-06 Mt Charleston, Las Vegas NV - Winter Drive
It had been snowing for about a day, the remnants of a storm from California. Earlier this week, Sam and I drove up to Mt. Charleston in a light snowstorm, and the plows hadn't even been on the highway. This date, Nenno and I took the same drive to the top of the mountain once again. Nenno loves this short but very dramatic drive. It had stopped snowing less than 24 hours prior and being Wednesday and the middle of the week, locals could have hardly begun to leave their foot prints in the fresh show, and the branches and pine needles hung heavy with snow as we neared the top, out destination. This is the edit with out the background music, which I hope to replace at a later date.
View from Cathedral Rock (Spring Mountains, Nevada)
This is a 360 degree view from Cathedral Rock in the Spring Mountains just outside of Las Vegas, Nevada. The hike to the summit is approximately 1.5 miles and is rated moderately strenuous to strenuous.

A scenic drive on Scenic Dr. Red Rock Canyon Nevada
One of my favorite places just outside of Las Vegas NV. Tons of scenery and hiking trails to explore. The road that passes through the park is called Scenic Dr, a very appropriate name. It's a 13 mile, one-way road that loops through the canyon providing incredible views.
