La cathédrale Saint-Lambert fut la cathédrale de Liège jusqu'en 1794,
date du début de sa destruction. Cette immense cathédrale gothique,
la mémoire de saint Lambert, occupait l'actuelle place Saint-Lambert, au cœur de Liège.

Here's a picture show of my last day trip. We went to Liege, Belgium and visited the Cathedral there. We bought some chocolate at Leonidas and some 10% alcohol abbey beer. Would recommend a trip there any time that is if you speak french, in this part of Belgium it is really easier to get around if one knows a little. Ce Lucifer est un élément constitutif de la chaire de vérité de la Cathédrale de Liège, il est représenté assis et enchaîné avec juste un drap couvrant ses cuisses. Cette statue de G. Geefs remplace une autre sculpture de Lucifer créée précédemment par son frère cadet Joseph Geefs qui fut retirée car jugée trop juvénile et trop dénudée.

St Paulus Kathedraal te Luik
De Sint-Pauluskathedraal in Luik is de hoofdkerk van het bisdom Luik. De kerk werd in de tiende eeuw door bisschop Heraclius gesticht op een eiland dat omsloten werd door twee armen van de Maas. Zij was tot aan de Franse Revolutie één van de zeven kapittelkerken in de stad. Bij het Concordaat van 1801 werd de Sint-Paul verheven tot de nieuwe kathedraal van het bisdom, aangezien de oude Sint-Lambertuskathedraal vanaf 1794 was afgebroken tijdens de Luikse Opstand.
During the French Revolution the ancient cathedral of Liège, St. Lambert's Cathedral, was destroyed systematically, from 1794 onwards. After the revolutionary fervour had evaporated a new cathedral was needed. The ancient collegiate church of St. Paul's was thought suitable for the purpose and was elevated in rank, before 1812. This is the present Liège Cathedral

Thousands of people gathered at Liege's cathedral in eastern Belgium on
Thursday (22/8) for the funeral of two eight-year-old girls whose bodies were found buried in the garden of a convicted child rapist. The two white coffins were driven through streets packed with people, and they were followed by mortuary cars piled high with flowers. Julie Lejeune and Melissa Russo had been kidnaped and imprisoned in a cellar. Julie and Melissa, who were inseparable friends, were to be buried alongside each other.

The Devil in the Cathedral: The Lucifer of Liège (Le génie du mal) Luzifer @ Lüttich
Der Luzifer von Lüttich (Belgien) in der St.-Pauls-Kathedrale:
Ein Luzifer, gefertigt aus Marmor versteckt sich hinter der Kanzel dieser gotischen Kathedrale.
Man kennt es auf englisch/deutsch als Lucifer von Lüttich, so heißt er eigentlich *Le génie du mal - Das Genie des Bösen.*
Er wurde 1848 vom belgischen Bildhauer Guillaume Geefs gefertigt und zeigt einen gefolterten, aber schönen jungen Mann.
So idealisiert wie sein Bild ist, ist er eigentlich ein Ersatz für einen anderen Luzifer, der ein paar Jahre zuvor von Guillaumes jüngerem Bruder Joseph gefertigt wurde.
Josephs Skulptur L'ange du mal (Der Engel des Bösen) wurde 1842 in der Kathedrale installiert, aber die Kirchenvertreter hielten seine Darstellung für zu schön und einen schlechten Einfluss auf die Gemeindejugend,
also wurde sein großer Bruder Guillaume beauftragt, eine Ersatzstatue zu entwerfen, die nicht so störend war.

Two months before the fire at Notre Dame cathedral, I was kneeling on the floor. I wish France the best in their restoration. Before that I visited Belgium for the first time and also enjoyed Karneval in Cologne.
