The Cathedral of Our Lady of Peace: Taking a Closer Look
I produced this short video of the Cathedral of Our Lady of Peace on the occasion of our Cathedral Renewal Campaign. The campaign will raise funds to restore, renovate, and renew our church. The Cathedral of Our Lady of Peace holds the distinction as being the oldest cathedral in continuous use in the United States and is the mother church of the Catholic faithful in Hawaii. St. Damien of Moloka'i was ordained a priest here in 1864 and St. Marianne attended mass here.
Our Lady of Peace Cathedral in Honolulu
Quite a beautiful church and very historic. It's the oldest Catholic church (in continuous use) in the United States. Dedicated in 1843, Father Damian (Saint) of Molokai was ordained to the preisthood here in 1864. The video was shot during the Midnight Mass Closing Hymn, which was played on a 1934 Aeolian-Skinner Pipe Organ. December 24th, 2008

Downtown is Hawaii’s bustling political and business hub, known for its skyscrapers and the lavish Iolani Palace, a restored 19th-century royal residence with original furnishings. The Hawaii State Art Museum shows local contemporary art. On Honolulu Harbor, Aloha Tower Marketplace has sea views from the 1920s Aloha Tower, as well as a large waterfront stage, a concert pavilion and waterfront restaurants.
Downtown Honolulu is the current historic, economic, governmental, and central part of Honolulu—bounded by Nuʻuanu Stream to the west, Ward Avenue to the east, Vineyard Boulevard to the north, and Honolulu Harbor to the south—situated within the City of Honolulu. Roman Catholic Church in the State of Hawaii Sacrament Series - video for catechesis
This video features Bishop Larry Silva sharing a brief reflection about the Eucharist as the central sacrament of our Catholic faith. Bishop Silva points out that Pope John Paul II reminded us that to be a truly Eucharistic community we must be nourished to reach out beyond ourselves to others in need.
The video is also an excellent way to connect the Eucharist to the pressing theme of responding to Hunger in the world by sustaining nourishing food, embodied in the Holy Thursday collection of Rice Bowl contributions.
