Cathedral of St Michael and St George
When I visited the Cathedral of St Michael and St George in Grahamstown, Eastern Cape, South Africa, it was the most spectacular building I have ever seen. I was fascinated by not only the beauty of it, but the lady that had been working in the church for 15 years. I thought about telling her story, her own culture and tradition of taking visitors from all over South Africa and the world, through the history of the Cathedral of St Michael and St George.

Bell ringer Catherine Letcher, talks about how she came to be a ringer in the ”City of Saints” and maintains her hobby despite personal hardships and a dwindling interest in the bells of Grahamstown.
Grahamstown’s Cathedral of St Michael and St George is both a central point in the geography of the town and of the local Anglican community. The steeple, the highest in the South Africa, is one of only seven bell towers in the country, and contains ten bells which are rung and maintained by a small group of hobbyists.

St. George's Cathedral Live Stream
The City of Saints - Grahamstown, South Africa.
This short documentary is on the rather controversial issue of Christian church denomination and division, as seen through the microcosm of Grahamstown with its more than 50 church buildings and over 200 congregations. The film highlights both the positives and negatives of Grahamstown's prevalence of separate denominations, and uses this to subtly reflect on the nature of the global Christian church.
