Cathedral of the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary
Собор Успения Пресвятой Девы Марии / Cathedral of the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary
Varna - Bulgaria
As the third largest city in Bulgaria, and one of the country's most attractive towns and a popular holiday destination, Varna is known as Bulgaria's Seaside Capital and the 'Pearl of the Black Sea Coast'. The town is arranged in tiers along the curve of Varna Bay, and besides being a popular beach resort, it rivals the important cities of Sofia and Plovdiv in its wealth of museums, art galleries, historical buildings and cultural entertainment, and as such is a year-round holiday destination.
The 19th-century Cathedral of the Assumption of the Virgin is an impressive landmark, while the extensive ruins of the Roman Spa in the centre of town constitutes the largest ancient building in Bulgaria, dating back to 1700. Varna is the main port for commercial and naval shipping and has a casual, cosmopolitan atmosphere with a Mediterranean charm created by the sunny climate, calm sea, beach promenades and red-tiled roofs, popular with holidaymakers.
Varna is the gateway to the nearby beach resorts, including Albena and the mega-resort of Golden Sands, and numerous scenic spots along the coast are within easy reach, such as the nature reserve at Kamchia and the crumbling rock formations and dramatic cliffs along the Balchik coast.
Holiday Shopping
Shopping in Varna is focused on the massive Varna Shopping Mall, which is the largest in Bulgaria. Its 150 shops offer everything from souvenirs and beachwear to music and electronics. There are also shopping promenades located in Bul. Slivnitsa and its surrounding area.
Restaurants
Eating out in Varna includes a huge selection of informal cafes and good restaurants to choose from. You can enjoy mouth-watering seafood at the popular BM Zaliva with your toes in the sand, sample traditional Bulgarian food at the Mehana Koleloto, or try one of the 500 different wines on offer at Prodadena Nevesta.
Nightlife
Like most holiday beach destinations, this Bulgarian resort town has a number of nightclubs and bars along the sand and in the city centre, contributing to Varna's vibrant nightlife. Try the elegant Da Capo, the bustling Bordo Cafe, or the giant Comics House and Chill Out Night Club. For live music, go to the Joker's Club in the Cherno More Hotel.
Holiday Activities
Although not known for its sightseeing, Varna offers a number of museums and attractions to entertain visitors when they're not enjoying the sunny weather on the beach. The Varna Archaeological Museum has large collections of fossils and cultural artefacts, and the Bulgar Settlement of Phanagoria ethnographical village stages historical reenactments in its mock village. Varna also has a number of art galleries, theatres, and other cultural institutions. You can also make a day trip to the petrified forest a few kilometres away.
Any Negatives?
Many of the buildings in Varna are uninspired Socialist-era architecture and look slightly run-down, and the city is cut off from the beach by a large garden.

Cathedral of the Assumption of the Most Blessed Virgin Mary - Videoguide
Pope John Paul II greets Benevento with high solemnity: ‘Town of dukes and lords, with its monuments, it reminds us of its past civil and prestigious value, that made it stand out over the centuries. Its name indicates a good wish (it means good wind) and was attributed by pagan Rome to replace the previous name, Maleventum (meaning bad wind). However, its true strength came from new Rome, the Christian one, that transmitted the good news of the Gospel’.
Benevento has a glorious memory thanks to its noble artistic and religious heritage, an admirable fusion of the Samnite, Roman and Germanic civilizations. It is a proof of social devotion, a mix of art, faith and history. Tourists are welcomed by the so-called Rocca dei Rettori, the administrative seat of the papal governors.
The cathedral is dedicated to the Most Holy Mary of Assumption and is full of precious spirituality. It is the first temple to witness the arrival of Christianity in the town and, among its bishops, it is proud for having had St. Januarius, a saint honored by all the inhabitants of Benevento. Here the remains of Apostle St. Bartholomew are worshipped. They were brought here by Lombard Prince Sicardo when the population was converted to Christianity by St. Barbatus.
The battles, mythological characters, knights and amazing animals that you can see in St. Sophie’s cloister represent man’s knowledge, the frenzies of our fears and hopes, and the passing of time is visible in the pictures of agricultural works.
Each decoration that links the arches and coloumns, called pulvinus, is the essence of human knowledge concerning the earthly and the divine: they are in contrast with the peace and silence of the cloister and celebrate a perennial invitation to recollection. The monks, closed within the monastery walls, contemplated the Creation to understand the universal mystery.
The cloister is a protection and salvation monument in these places, where prince Arechi put its capital and continuous battles claimed many lives.

THE BACHKOVO MONASTERY,BULGARIA
The Bachkovo Monastery Assumption of the Virgin is located in the southern part of the village Bachkovo, 10 kilometers south of Asenovgrad. The monastery was founded in 1083 by the Georgian Gregoriy Bakuriani, who donated the land. For a long time the monastery was Georgian. The two-story ossuary some 400 meters from the monastery was built during the monastery's earliest days.
At the end of the 12th century and the beginning of the 13th century, The Holy Archangels Church was built, for services during the winter months. It was attached to the terrace on the second floor of the west wing where the monks had their cells. It is thought that after the fall of Bulgaria to the Ottomans at the end of the 14th century, Eftimiy, Bulgaria's last patriarch, was exiled to the Bachkovo Monastery.
Construction on the new monastery began at the end of the 16th century, most likely with the eastern wing and the fortified main entrance. In 1601, the southern wing was rebuilt, where the refectory now stands, with its spacious dining area and marble table. Visitors will note that the year of the table's construction is carved on it. In 1864, a mural was painted on the northern wall of the dining hall, The Presentation of the Miraculous Icon. In 1604, The Assumption of the Virgin Cathedral was constructed, which has three naves, an apse, a narthex, and a cupola.

Liturgy in the Kremlin
This liturgy is being held in the Assumption (Dormition) Cathedral in the Moscow Kremlin. The Assumption Cathedral was built by Czar Ivan III (Ivan the Terrible's daddy). The coronation of Ivan the Terrible took place in this church, followed by the rest of the czars ending with Czar Nicholas II. In 1941 Stalin secretly held services in this cathedral to pray for the salvation of Russia from the Nazis.
Patriarch Alexei is serving the liturgy.
I am not sure what part of the liturgy they are doing. I can tell that part of it is the Nicene Creed being sung, but I must admit I'm not that familiar with the Hierarchical Liturgy.
I also must admit that I downloaded this video (it used to be on youtube), but the user quit, so I decided to put it back on youtube. The resolution is not as good.
