Caves of Aggtelek Karst and Slovak Karst - UNESCO World Heritage Site
The Caves of Aggtelek Karst and Slovak Karst UNESCO World Heritage site covers some 70 caves across southern Slovakia and northern Hungary. These caves are all unique and interesting, and in many cases only recently discovered. Unfortunately due to the time of year, many caves had closed for visitors, but we managed to visit the cave of Ochtinska, famous for its Aragonite formations.

Caves of the Slovak Karst Featured on new Silver Coin
The Kremnica Mint have issued the first silver collectors coins for the Republic of Slovakia for 2017. The coins form part of the UNESCO World Heritage collection and represent the Caves of the Slovak Karst. In this video I'll take a closer look at these new coins.

Ochtinská Aragonite Cave represents a worldwide unique natural phenomenon characterized by richness and diversity of aragonite fills, particular geological evolution and distinctive genesis of underground spaces. Three generations of aragonite were determined in this treasure of the world.The second generation is the most attractive for visitors, because these aragonite fills are still growing and maintain white colour and clean appearance.This UNESCO World Natural Heritage was discovered in 1954 and opened for the public in 1972 on a length of 235m.

The future of the youth in the Slovak Karst - Aggtelek Karst region
In the frame of the Landscape of the Year project 2010/11, organised by Naturefriends International (NFI) -International Young Naturefriends (IYNF) its mother organisation -in cooperation with the Slovakian and Hungarian Naturefriends IYNF created this movie. The movie was made as a contribution to the Sustainability Conference Tourism - Youth - Future Sustainable development in the Gomor-Torna region, which was held on Friday the 9th of September in the town hall of Roznava.
The footage for the movie was collected in just one day -during IYNF its Planning Weekend meeting- from experts that work for/with youth, as well as youth in schools and on the streets. It gives us a good picture of the situation in the region when topics like education, unemployment, tourism and transportation are being discussed.
We would like to thank Asia Der, Kata Olah and Gregory Fasz for the creation of the movie, all people that are in the movie for their time and contributions and the European Youth Foundation of the Council of Europe as well as Youth in Action for their support. The movie is in Slovakian and Hungarian with English subtitles. The content of the movie only reflects the point of view of the makers.

Slovak Karst National Park (Národný park Slovenský kras) is a national park in the Slovak Karst (Slovenský kras) mountain range in South East Slovakia. It lies in the Gelnica, Rožňava and Košice–okolie districts in the Košice region.
The National Park covers an area of 346.11 km² (133.64 mi²) and its buffer zone covers 117.41 km² (45.33 mi²).
The park was established on 1 March 2002, after being a protected landscape area since 1973. Slovak Karst is the first Slovak biosphere reserve since 1 March 1977, when it was included in the UNESCO's Programme on Man and the Biosphere. In 1995, 12 out of 700 caves in the park were recognized as a UNESCO World Heritage Site.

Zadielska tiesňava gorge, also known as Zadielska dolina valley is one of the most beautiful places to visit in Slovak Karst National Park in Kosice region, Slovakia. The national park was inscribed in UNESCO World Heritage Site list thanks to its unique caves that you can also visit here.

Zádielska tiesňava patrí k tým najkrajším miestam v Košickom kraji. Je súčasťou národného parku Slovenský kras, ktorý bol vďaka jeho jaskyniam zapísaný na zoznam UNESCO.
Zádielska tiesňava, Zádielska roklina, či Zádielska dolina je ideálna v horúcich letných dňoch kedy je tu stále chladno. My sa tu chodíme vždy takto schladiť. :) Ale krásne je tu vždy!

The Naturefriends' inauguration of the Landscape of the Year 2010/11 sets a clear sign for fruitful cooperations and friendly relations between Slovakia and Hungary.
Every two years since 1989, the international Presidents' Conference of the Nature Friends federations has proclaimed a transboundary, ecologically valuable and endangered European region as Landscape of the Year.
The principal aim pursued with every Landscape of the Year project is the sustainable development of the region selected. To achieve this aim the Friends of Nature have chosen a three-pronged approach, seeking to strike a balance between the implementation of practical projects, the organisation of events and hands-on activities for participants as well as political consciousness building and lobbying at regional, national and international level.

Hajske vodopady waterfalls in UNESCO's Slovak Karst National Park, Slovakia
Easter holidays ended up with a short hiking trip to the famous Hájske waterfalls in the #UNESCO's Slovak Karst National Park. There is a big lack of rainfall in this part of #Slovakia for the last couple of months so the waterfall was just in its light form. However, it was an interesting hike anyway... :) The village Háj in which the falls are located has one more interesting feature - a huge statue of Angel - created and used for Behind Enemy Lines movie that was set in Slovakia.
