A walk through Cecil Court (Diagon Alley) + an interview with Jeremy from Watkins Books in London.
Moments away from Trafalgar Square and Covent Garden (in London, England) is this enchanting thoroughfare known as Cecil Court; a.k.a. Booksellers' Row (a London Street that's over 300 years old), it's so nice to see such an old street, alive, well and still going strong. A walk along this street is like stepping back in time.
It's generally known that Harry Potter's Diagon Alley is widely thought to be inspired by Cecil Court.
It is affectionately known as the Booksellers' Row, due to the presence of around about twenty antiquarian and second-hand independent bookshops, including specialists in modern first editions, collectible children’s books, early printing, rare maps and atlases, antique prints, theatrical ephemera and esoteric books
Cecil Court dates back to the end of the 17th century
in the 20th century it gained the nickname Flicker Alley from the concentration of early film companies in the Court.
Cecil Court is a street just off Charing Cross Road and St. Martin's Lane lined with Victorian shop fronts.
Can you imagine that Mozart (as a boy) lived on this Street.
Many thanks to Jeremy of Watkins Books for kindly making time to say a few words about the history of the street (& informing us of some of the history of the actual bookshop itself that he has worked in for the past 25 years).
Video Timeline:

London Cecil Court
The quaint passageway between St Martin's Lane and Charing Cross Road in London's West End. packed with antiquarian book sellers, prints and Victorian atmosphere. Earned a spot in the film 84 Charing Cross Road in the scene with Anthony Hopkins browsing for used books for his store, Marks and Co.

Cecil Court: From Flickers Alley to Booksellers' Row
Did you know Cecil Court, near Leicester Square station, was the birthplace of the British film industry? It was nicknamed Flicker Alley to celebrate the movie connection. It's now also known as Booksellers’ Row because of all the second-hand book shops and antiquarian ware. It's such an odd little street that it

Mozart's Cecil Court Abode (Filmed by Etan Ilfeld)
Our latest project is to commemorate the site of Mozart's first London address, 9 Cecil Court (better known as Mark Sullivan Antiques which in 1764 was John Couzin's barber's shop; Mozart's family lodged above). Mozart's stay in Cecil Court is well known, but several rolls of microfiche and three antique maps pinned down the exact location!
On September 23, 2011, we finally erected a plaque to commemorate Mozart and where he stayed from April 24 until August 6, 1764, and where some scholars believe he composed his first symphonies. The celebration included several performances of Mozart's symphonies and was most festive.

HERITAGE OF CECIL RHODES
Cecil Rhodes was born 100 years ago - the centenary celebrations will be marked by the Rhodes Centenary Exhibition to be opened in Bulawayo this year by Queen Elizabeth the Queen Mother. A conference is taking place in London, where representatives of the territories of Southern Rhodesia, Northern Rhodesia and Nyasaland are moulding the pattern of a federation. Sir Godfrey Huggins, Prime Minister of Southern Rhodesia, speaks on what the policy of federation means to Central Africa.

Exploring London's Charing Cross Road
Late on a Sunday morning, I walk from the junction of Oxford Street and Tottenham Court Road along Charing Cross Road to the point where it meets Trafalgar Square. Along the way we see a couple of theatres and a few antiquarian bookshops, and explore Cecil Court with its quirky shops as well.
ABOUT ALPHATUCANA
This channel is about 'waking up' from our matrix-induced slumber, and about leaving the World a better place than we found it. For most of us, our powers and motivation are strictly limited. We are fundamentally alone in a vast and mysterious Universe, but in the struggle to survive, to 'succeed', or to just get by, we sometimes forget the bigger picture, and we sometimes forget to just relax for a while and remember what an amazing world this is. There is plenty to look at: science, Nature, society... And there are plenty of games to help us get away from it all... So on this channel, I vlog about science, Nature, enlightenment, current affairs and much else besides, I upload sightseeing videos showing London, England, or my holidays elsewhere, and I upload game-play videos. So why not join in for a while and see what you think?
POSTING SCHEDULE
This depends in part on whether I have had time to record videos in between going to work and living the rest of my life! Usually it runs like this:
- Most weekends: a vlog or sightseeing video.
- Gameplay videos: pretty random - typically at midday on weekdays, but not all the time.
- If I have something extra to post it usually appears at some random time :) I may livestream occasionally too.

Curator Overview of Tudors to Windors: British Royal Portraits
Curator Overview of Tudors to Windors: British Royal Portraits.
Tudors to Windsors traces the history of the British monarchy through the outstanding collection of the National Portrait Gallery, London. This exhibition highlights major events in British (and world) history from the sixteenth century to the present, examining the ways in which royal portraits were impacted by both the personalities of individual monarchs and wider historical change. Presenting some of the most significant royal portraits, the exhibition will explore five royal dynasties: the Tudors, the Stuarts, the Georgians, the Victorians and the Windsors shedding light on key figures and important historical moments. This exhibition also offers insight into the development of British art including works by the most important artists to have worked in Britain, from Sir Peter Lely and Sir Godfrey Kneller to Cecil Beaton and Annie Leibovitz.
To bring these royal figures to life, Bendigo Art Gallery has secured key loans of historic fashion, armour and personal effects which will be featured alongside these magnificent and imposing portraits.
