Tulum | A day at Cenote Cristal after the Trav/Tav wedding
On May 18, 2019 our good friends Travis and Tavia got married in Tulum. This cenote adventure is the day after the wedding. Backflips, shotguns (we picked up the cans), and whiskey pulls galore, this certainly was an amazing experience to share with great friends.

Cenotes, some cenotes and more cenotes! Seeing the cenotes between Tulum and Playa del Carmen is easy. That is why these cenotes are often crowded, and often over priced. They also create amenities, snack area's, showers and even sometimes restaurants and therefore the cenote entry price goes up. Cenotes are about experiencing the unaltered beauty of the land. I have been to, not all the cenotes, but all the main cenotes and some of the lesser known ones on the Mayan Riviera and they are one of the greatest things to do in Tulum, Playa del Carmen and up to Cancun. Now that I have seen all of the popular cenotes, and even thought I do return to some of my favourites cenotes for a quick dip, I like to discover new cenotes, ones that not many people know about because they are all so different! Even just a few kilometers south of Tulum, you can find some amazing beauties that are some of the least busy cenotes in this part of Mexico and these are the cenotes that I enjoy the most. I heard of cenotes Escondido and cenote Cristal simply through the internet and Google Maps, and secure the location and set out to find them. These 2 cenotes are like twin cenotes. Many land plots with cenotes on them, are privately owned, so they gate them up, sometimes even live on the land, and of course in all fairness, you pay to enter. These two cenotes, even though across the highway from each other, are both under the same entry cost of 120 pesos now in 2016. For the cenotes south of Tulum, that is a little more expensive than usual, but when you see what they have to offer, it is 100% worth it.
There are a few types of cenotes:
-Open Cenote, exposed similar to a lake
-Semi Open Cenote, open entry with some water under the overhanging rock
-Cavern Cenote, entered from underground with very little sunlight
-Underground cenote, water is completely under the rock with zero sunlight
These cenotes, cenote Cristal and cenote Escondido would both go under the classification of an open cenote as there is little to no over hang and the water is completely exposed like a lake, and the incredible water is shown in all its clarity when the sun is shining! This is why cenotes are such an amazing place to spend a day and one of the best things to do in Mexico.
On this channel, there are a number of my videos of other cenotes in the area, including Tulum Cenotes, Playa del Carmen Cenotes, and even a couple cenotes close to Cancun.

Cenote Cristal???? | TULUM ????
What to do in Tulum? Go to a cenote! This is one of many. There are all kinds of sizes and shapes.
But what exactly is a cenote? The best way to describe them is as magical water holes mostly made from underwater cave systems filled with fresh water.
For the mayans, these were sacred places, who used them for rituals, and ceremonies.

Early mornings in Tulum - Visiting Cenote Cristal
There are many cenotes around Tulum which you can easily get to by bike from Tulum pueblo.
So we've decided it would be a great idea to go to one first thing in the morning for a refreshing dip in the crystal clear water to get the energy flowing :-)
Since Cenote Cristal was probably the easiest one to get to from our apartment in Tulum we decided to grab our bikes and go for it.
It's just a 10-15 minute ride to get there and entrance fee is 80 pesos if you're just visiting one of the two cenotes (There is another Cenote right across the street - Cenote Escondido - so you can buy a combi ticket for 120 pesos allowing you to visit both cenotes).
Since it was 8:30am in the morning we had the Cenote all to ourselves and could shoot this video to show you this little paradise.
Definitely the perfect start to the day!!!
If you are in Tulum make sure to visit Cenote Cristal.
