Walking around The Strand Historic District - Galveston, Texas
The Strand Historic District, also known as the Strand District, in downtown Galveston, Texas (USA), is a National Historic Landmark District of mainly Victorian era buildings that now house restaurants, antique stores, and curio shops. The area is a major tourist attraction for the island city and also plays host to two very popular seasonal festivals. It is widely considered the island's shopping and entertainment center. The district includes properties along the south side of Harborside Drive (Avenue A) and both sides of The Strand (Avenue B) and Mechanic Street (Avenue C) from 20th Street westward to 26th Street.
The street labeled The Strand is actually named Avenue B, which runs parallel to Galveston Bay.
The district was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1970, and was declared a National Historic Landmark in 1976 for its unparalleled collection of commercial Victorian architecture in Texas, and its role as the state's major port in the 19th century.
Today the Strand is generally used to refer to the entire five-block business district between 20th and 25th streets in downtown Galveston, very close to the city's wharf.

MOST EXPENSIVE Cities In The US!
Most costly cities in the United States! From sea to shining sea, it’s no secret that some cities in America have been recognized on a global scale for how expensive it is to live in them
8. Boston
Boston, MA is known for the place of several key American Revolution events, including the Battle of Bunker Hill and others. It then became a center for education and culture, and supports a collection of sports teams. Places to visit include the Emerald Necklace, a 1,100 acre chain of 9 parks linked by parkways and waterways, a few archaeological digs - like the Old North Crypt, and museums including the Boston Tea Party Ships and Museums - where you can relive December 16, 1773, the day the American Colonists opposed British Rule. The population of Boston is around 694 thousand, and the average house is about 600 thousand. The cost of living is 53% above the national average.
7. Oakland
Oakland is the busiest port in the San Francisco Bay Area. It has a population of 432 thousand, and is known for its shipyards and automobile manufacturing industry. Just a few miles over the ridge from downtown Oakland lies a hidden redwood forest. This used to be the location to a massive logging area in the 1800s, but now that the city has become more modernized the logging is no longer needed, so 150 acres of new redwoods have taken the downed trees’ place. For families, there is the Oakland Zoo, Children’s Fairyland - the nursery rhyme themed park, or the Chabot Space and Science Center. One unique attraction of Oakland is the “Staircases to Heaven.” These are 230 usable stairways and paths all over the city, and Oakland Urban Paths - a non-profit focused on the historic pathways and stairways around Oakland- leads monthly walks. The average cost of a house in Oakland, CA is 695 thousand and the cost of living is 58% higher than the national average.

Singapore 4K - Night Drive - Driving Downtown
My first night video filmed using the new camera system! What do you all think of the quality?
Thursday night drive downtown Singapore. Highlights include the downtown city center, the Beverly Hills style Orchard Road luxury shopping and entertainment area, and the Marina District known for hosting the Singapore Formula 1 Grand Prix (You can see barriers and lane markings everywhere for the 2019 race. The track is centered in the middle of the city center!). Other highlights include the famous Marina Bay Sands Hotel and Casino (probably the most internationally recognizable building in Singapore), the downtown skyline, the Singapore Flyer, and spectacular architecture everywhere. Starting Point: .
Singapore Fun Facts: Alpha+ global city. Ranked the most expensive city to live in worldwide. Only Asian country with AAA sovereign credit rating from all major rating agencies. Identified as a tax haven. Home-ownership rate of 90%. One of the world's longest life expectancy. The island of Singapore has increased its total size by 23% (130 square kilometres or 50 square miles) over the past 50 years through land reclamation.
Singapore, officially the Republic of Singapore, is a sovereign island city-state in Southeast Asia. The country is situated one degree (137 kilometres or 85 miles) north of the equator, at the southern tip of the Malay Peninsula, with Indonesia's Riau Islands to the south and Peninsular Malaysia to the north. Singapore's territory consists of one main island along with 62 other islets. Since independence, extensive land reclamation has increased its total size by 23% (130 square kilometres or 50 square miles).
Although its history stretches back millennia, modern Singapore was founded in 1819 by Sir Stamford Raffles as a trading post of the British East India Company. After the Company's collapse in 1858, the islands came under direct British control as a crown colony known as the Straits Settlements. Singapore gained independence from the British Empire in 1963. After early years of turbulence and despite lacking natural resources and a hinterland, the nation developed rapidly as an Asian Tiger economy, based on external trade and its workforce.
The city-state is classified as an Alpha+ global city, indicating its influence on the global economy. Singapore is the only country in Asia with an AAA sovereign rating from all major rating agencies, and one of 11 worldwide. Singapore is a highly developed country and is ranked 9th on the UN Human Development Index, the highest in Asia for a sovereign state, with the 7th highest GDP per capita in the world. It was ranked the most expensive city to live in from 2013 to 2019 by the Economist. It is identified as a tax haven. Singapore is placed highly in key social indicators: education, healthcare, quality of life, personal safety and housing, with a home-ownership rate of 90%. Singaporeans enjoy one of the world's longest life expectancy and one of the lowest infant mortality rates in the world. As of 2019, Singaporean citizens had visa-free or visa-on-arrival access to 189 countries and territories, ranking the Singaporean passport 1st in the world, tied with Japan.
The city-state is home to 5.6 million residents, 39% of whom are foreign nationals, including permanent residents. There are four official languages of Singapore: English, Malay, Mandarin Chinese, and Tamil; most Singaporeans are bilingual, with English serving as the nation's lingua franca, while Malay is the national language. Nonetheless, only about 10% of the population speaks Malay, with the most commonly spoken language at home being English. Its cultural diversity is reflected in its extensive ethnic cuisine and major festivals. A 2014 study by Pew Research Center found that Singapore has the highest religious diversity of any country. Multiracialism has been enshrined in its constitution since independence, and continues to shape national policies in education, housing and politics. The city-state's historical district features dozens of landmarks such as The Esplanade, Fort Canning Hill, the National Gallery Singapore, Raffles Hotel and the Buddha Tooth Relic Temple. There are also numerous famous attractions within the city-state, notably Gardens by the Bay, Marina Bay Sands, Sentosa Island, Orchard Road, Jewel Changi Airport and the Singapore Zoo, which was ranked the best zoo in Asia. The Singapore Botanic Gardens is the only tropical garden in the world to be honoured as a UNESCO World Heritage Site.

Houston is a large metropolis in Texas, extending to Galveston Bay. It’s closely linked with the Space Center Houston, the coastal visitor center at NASA’s astronaut training and flight control complex. The city’s relatively compact Downtown includes the Theater District, home to the renowned Houston Grand Opera, and the Historic District, with 19th-century architecture and upscale restaurants.
Think laid-back, pick-up truck and boot-scooting town meets high-powered, high-cultured and high-heeled metropolis. During the day, chill out in your flip-flops, take in museums and go shopping, then hit happy hour on a leaf-shaded deck. At night, revel in culinary or cultural bliss – the restaurant and entertainment scenes are renowned across the region. Here, starched jeans are de rigueur in all but the very fanciest of restaurants.
Diverse residential neighborhoods and enclaves of restaurants and shops spread far and wide. Where residents of other cities talk about the weather, Houstonians talk about parking. Wealth from oil and energy companies supports luxurious shopping areas but you can also enjoy down-home fun, although don't underestimate the sauna-like summers. Don't forget that one of the town's main attractions – NASA's Space Center Houston in Clear Lake – is outside the city limits, a 30-minute drive down I-45.
The Theater District is a 17-block area in the center of downtown Houston that is home to the Bayou Place entertainment complex, restaurants, movies, plazas, and parks. Bayou Place is a large multilevel building containing full-service restaurants, bars, live music, billiards, and Sundance Cinema. The Bayou Music Center stages live concerts, stage plays, and stand-up comedy.
Space Center Houston is the official visitors' center of NASA's Lyndon B. Johnson Space Center. The Space Center has many interactive exhibits including moon rocks, a shuttle simulator, and presentations about the history of NASA's manned space flight program. Other tourist attractions include the Galleria (Texas' largest shopping mall, located in the Uptown District), Old Market Square, the Downtown Aquarium, and Sam Houston Race Park.
Houston's current Chinatown and the Mahatma Gandhi District are two major ethnic enclaves, reflecting Houston's multicultural makeup. Restaurants, bakeries, traditional-clothing boutiques, and specialty shops can be found in both areas. Houston is home to 337 parks, including Hermann Park, Terry Hershey Park, Lake Houston Park, Memorial Park, Tranquility Park, Sesquicentennial Park, Discovery Green, Buffalo Bayou Park and Sam Houston Park. Within Hermann Park are the Houston Zoo and the Houston Museum of Natural Science. Sam Houston Park contains restored and reconstructed homes which were originally built between 1823 and 1905.

The History Of Historic Annapolis
Sir Francis designed a city worthy of a Queen. Instead of using a customary grid, he constructed a baroque plan similar to the magnificent capitals of Europe. He drew circles with radiating streets to create focal points and give importance to certain structures. In one circle is St Anne's, the Episcopal Church, regarded as the spiritual center of the city. As the Church of England, it was originally supported by taxpayers.
In the other circle, rising over the harbor, is the State House, the seat of government. This urban design was admired by frequent visitor George Washington, who later had Pierre L'Enfant incorporate it into the nation's capital.
A thriving shipping industry brought great wealth to Annapolis, reflected quality of life. Prosperous merchants and planters sought to duplicate the amenities of their homeland in the colonies, and built mansions that would rival any in England. These homes, which entertained many of our Founding Fathers, had ballrooms and formal gardens where lavish social functions occurred.
Today, Annapolis has more of these original 18th century structures standing than any other city in the United States. Many are open to the public, where, their beauty and architectural style is a major attraction. Historic Annapolis Foundation operates the William Paca house as a museum, and also has a wealth of information about many of the other historical treasures.
Annapolis has great historical significance for other reasons. The capital of Maryland was the country's capital when the Treaty of Paris, ending the Revolutionary War, was signed here. All four Maryland signers of the Declaration of Independence had impressive homes in Annapolis, which still stand today.
As delightful as Annapolis is by water, its very human scale makes it a wonderful subject for a walking tour. Many of these attractions, including the Naval Academy and St. John's College, are right in the Historic District. Best of all, the Visitors Center, with its adjoining garage, is also located right at the entrance to town. A pleasant stroll along tree lined streets will take you to museums, restaurants and some wonderful shops.

Driving Downtown 4K - Baltimore's Main Street - USA
Driving Downtown Streets - Baltimore Street - Baltimore Maryland USA - Episode 6.
Starting Point: Baltimore Street & MLK Boulevard - .
Baltimore is the largest city in the U.S. state of Maryland, and the 29th-most populous city in the country. It was established by the Constitution of Maryland[17] and is not part of any county, thus it is the largest independent city in the United States. Baltimore has more public monuments than any other city per capita in the country and is home to some of the earliest National Register historic districts in the nation, including Fell's Point (1969), Federal Hill (1970) and Mount Vernon Place (1971). More than 65,000 properties, or roughly one in three buildings in the city, are listed on the National Register, more than any other city in the nation.[18][19]
Founded in 1729, Baltimore is the second largest seaport in the Mid-Atlantic.[20] Baltimore's Inner Harbor was once the second leading port of entry for immigrants to the United States and a major manufacturing center.[21] After a decline in major manufacturing, industrialization and rail transportation, Baltimore shifted to a service-oriented economy, with the Johns Hopkins Hospital (founded 1889), and Johns Hopkins University (founded 1876), now the city's top two employers.[22]
Baltimore had a population of 621,849 in 2015; in 2010, that of Baltimore Metropolitan Area was 2.7 million, the 21st largest in the country.[23][24] With hundreds of identified districts, Baltimore has been dubbed a city of neighborhoods. Famous residents have included the writers Edgar Allan Poe, Edith Hamilton, Frederick Douglass, and H.L. Mencken; jazz musician James Eubie Blake; singer Billie Holiday; actor and filmmaker John Waters; and baseball player Babe Ruth. In the War of 1812, Francis Scott Key wrote The Star-Spangled Banner, later the American national anthem, in the city.[25] Almost a quarter of the jobs in the Baltimore region are in science, technology, engineering and math, in part attributed to its extensive undergraduate and graduate schools.[26]
Tourism[edit]
Baltimore's history and attractions have allowed the city to become a strong tourist destination on the East Coast. In 2014, the city hosted 24.5 million visitors, who spent $5.2 billion.[180] The Baltimore Visitor Center, which is operated by Visit Baltimore, is located on Light Street in the Inner Harbor. Much of the city's tourism centers around the Inner Harbor, with the National Aquarium being Maryland's top tourist destination. Baltimore Harbor's restoration has made it a city of boats, with several historic ships and other attractions on display and open for the public to visit. The USS Constellation, the last Civil War-era vessel afloat, is docked at the head of the Inner Harbor; the USS Torsk, a submarine that holds the Navy's record for dives (more than 10,000); and the Coast Guard cutter Taney, the last surviving U.S. warship that was in Pearl Harbor during the Japanese attack on December 7, 1941, and which engaged Japanese Zero aircraft during the battle.[181]
Also docked is the lightship Chesapeake, which for decades marked the entrance to Chesapeake Bay; and the Seven Foot Knoll Lighthouse, the oldest surviving screw-pile lighthouse on Chesapeake Bay, which once marked the mouth of the Patapsco River and the entrance to Baltimore. All of these attractions are owned and maintained by the Historic Ships in Baltimore organization. The Inner Harbor also is the home port of Pride of Baltimore II, the state of Maryland's goodwill ambassador ship, a reconstruction of a famous Baltimore Clipper ship.[181]
Other popular tourist destinations throughout the city include Oriole Park at Camden Yards, Fort McHenry, the Mount Vernon and Fells Point neighborhoods, and museums such as the Walters Art Museum, the Baltimore Museum of Industry, and the B&O Railroad Museum.
Historic home in Mobile saved from demolition
Story:
It was set to be torn down, but a home built in the 1880s is safe. It was moved Wednesday afternoon to preserve it, and the rich, Mobile history it represents.
The house has stood for more than 100 years at the corner of Gayle and Gorgas Streets, in South Mobile.
After hearing the owner wanted to tear it down, Restore Mobile stepped in to save it. It's the group's latest project to remove blight in the Port City.

1950s STORY OF THE U.S. MAIL USPS PROMOTIONAL FILM LETTER SORTING & DELIVERY 64334
This 1950s color film is an educational public service announcement by the U.S. Postal Service. The film was produced by Lewis & Martin Films Inc. The focus of this film is to educate viewers on postal automation technology. The film begins with a vintage post office seal, followed by Arthur Summerfield, the Postmaster General from 1953-1961 under President Eisenhower, who speaks briefly about the mail service (0:42-1:30). Mail is dropped in and picked up from different mailboxes, including in a dual Local and Out of Town mailbox (1:31-1:58). Workers sort mail and boxes (1:59-2:17). New home construction is briefly showcased, including model homes (2:18-2:38). An aerial view shows a large factory and work trucks (2:39-2:54). Vintage illustrations show the U.S. map, as well as an overstuffed post office bursting at the seams and sending mail flying (2:55-3:30). A woman walks into a vintage “Victorian elegant” post office lobby (4:02-4:17). Men push carts and toss packages in a postal processing facility, letters are sorted into city boxes by hand, and packages from a mountain of boxes are tossed into hampers (4:18-5:00). The Transorma Letter Sorting Machine, the first implementation of a semiautomatic mail sorter, is operated by five clerks. Mail is shown being sorted by hand for contrast (5:01-5:43). An automated conveyor belt system is demonstrated, moving mail to different area (5:45-6:38). Boxes are moved down a conveyor belt where a keyboard operator punches in the address area for automatic sorting (6:39-7:14). A postman walks his route and delivers mail. 1950s post office trucks drop off packages (7:15-8:13). A carrier uses an experimental, three-wheeled post office truck (8:14-8:30). A postman pushes a postal cart down the sidewalk, delivering mail (8:31-8:40). The first version of a modern post office layout is shown, including the 24x7 lobby (8:41-9:13). Innovations such as early automated stamp machine, the post office lockbox, and the presence of ballpoint pens are briefly showcased (9:14-9:35). A woman prepares business mail and bundles mail with pressure-sensitive tape, dropping them into a triple-section mailbox (9:36-10:54). ⁴ᴷ⁶⁰ Walking NYC : Downtown Brooklyn to Fort Greene, Brooklyn (October 7, 2019)
Google Maps Route:
A walk through the neighborhood of Fort Greene, Brooklyn.
From Wikipedia:
Fort Greene is a neighborhood in the northwestern part of the New York City borough of Brooklyn. The neighborhood is bounded by Flushing Avenue and the Brooklyn Navy Yard to the north, Flatbush Avenue Extension and Downtown Brooklyn to the west, Atlantic Avenue and Prospect Heights to the south, and Vanderbilt Avenue and Clinton Hill to the east. Fort Greene is listed on the New York State Registry and on the National Register of Historic Places, and is a New York City-designated Historic District.
The neighborhood is named after an American Revolutionary War era fort that was built in 1776 under the supervision of General Nathanael Greene of Rhode Island. General Greene aided General George Washington during the Battle of Long Island in 1776. Fort Greene Park, originally called Washington Park and Brooklyn's first, is also derived from General Greene's name and from the neighborhood. In 1864, Fort Greene Park was redesigned by Frederick Law Olmsted and Calvert Vaux; the park notably includes the Prison Ship Martyrs' Monument and crypt, which honors some 11,500 patriots who died aboard British prison ships during the American Revolution.
Fort Greene contains many examples of mid-19th century Italianate and Eastlake architecture, most of which is well preserved. It is known for its many tree-lined streets and elegant low-rise housing. Fort Greene is also home to the Williamsburgh Savings Bank Tower, which, for over 80 years, was the tallest building in Brooklyn. The neighborhood is close to the Atlantic Terminal station of the Long Island Rail Road and has access to many New York City Subway services.
Fort Greene is part of Brooklyn Community District 2 and its primary ZIP Codes are 11201, 11205, 11217, and 11238. It is patrolled by the 88th Precinct of the New York City Police Department. Politically it is represented by the New York City Council's 35th District.
