Located at Prapokklao Rd., Tambon Sriphum. An old building of elegant architectural design was built in 1924. Standing on the location of former royal hall, the building was used as the central administrative offices of the Monthon Phayap administrative unit of Siam, and later as the Provisncial Hall of Chiang Mai.
The cultural center was created to help them understand their roots and foster a sense of pride in local identity and thus to help preserve the beauty of local customs and culture. The museum has been divided into two sections. The front (eastern) part of the square-shaped building contains permanent exhibits. The rear section of the building has been dedicated to cultural activities, temporary exhibits, a souvenir shop, a lecture theatre, an exhibition hall for Lanna arts and an archive.
The Permanent exhibits are thematically divided into periods and topics which are shown in 15 rooms. They show the development of the region and the city from pre-history to its rise and decline as an independent capital. The city's history is illustrated up until present times. The system of administration, way of life, local wisdom and the culture that have created the city's proud identity are presented using a variety of media . Models, slides, pictures with text explanations, digital video presentations and graphic displays will impress visitors and help them understand the origins of the city.
Temporary Displays and Activities
The rear of the building and the enclosed open-air courtyard are reserved for a variety of cultural activities aimed at conserving and promoting the valuable traditions of the local culture.

Rabam Kinaree Ron Dance ระบำกินรีร่อน, performed at the Great Court in the British Museum, London, on the 22nd Feb 2018, by Thai classical dancers from the Bunditpatanasilpa Institute สถาบันบัณฑิตพัฒนศิลป์, Bangkok, Thailand.
The Bunditpatanasilpa Institute is a key higher education institution focusing on preserving and promoting Thai cultural arts.
This beautiful dance depicts the graceful and soaring movements of the mythological kinnaree, with the Thai dancers wearing the elaborately decorated kinnaree winged costume.
In Southeast Asian mythology, kinnaree กินรี (sometimes transliterated kinnari) are half-bird, half-woman creatures, one of the many beings that inhabit the mythical Himavanta. Kinnaree have the head, torso, and arms of a woman and the wings, tail and feet of a swan. They are renowned for their dance, song and poetry, and are a traditional symbol of feminine beauty, grace and accomplishment.
In Thai literature the kinnaree originates from India, but was modified to fit in with Thai culture. The Thai Kinnaree is depicted as a young woman wearing an angel-like costume. The lower part of the body is similar to a bird, and should enable her to fly between the human and the mystical worlds.

The Flight of the Kinaree and the Sacrifice of Manora
This dance is based on a Thai literary genre called Manora. It is a story of Kinaree (a mythical half-bird, half-human) who is the wife of Prince Suthon, son of King Arthiwongse, ruler of the imaginary city of Punjal. When the King had a very strange dream, the wicked soothsayer interpreted it as a very bad omen that the King's life was in grave danger unless a sacrifice of live animals, including Manora, was performed. Fearing for his own life, the King consented. With her wit, Manora requested that she be given back her wings and tail to perform a farewell dance for the King. After dancing beautifully around the fire, she took off into the sky for her escape where she was immediately surrounded by her delighted sisters. At this point, the exciting and agitated music changes to a slower and calm tempo, signifying the passing of great danger.
The visit by the Bunditpatanasilpa Institute was part of a Thai cultural promotion tour to enhance Thai-UK friendship and relations and to project a good image of Thailand to the international community.

Walk through Shan New Year at Wat Ku Tao, CM, Thailand
For the past 6 years our non for profit organization, Thai Freedom House (language and arts community learning center) has run a project called the Shan Cultural Preservation Project in an attempt to cultivate an appreciation and understanding of traditional Shan culture including food, dance, dress, family values and worship not only for our students from Shan State but for Thai people and the general public.
Many of our students are refugees from Shan State, Burma (Myanmar) and are living in exile in Thailand, sometimes for years as the situation in their hometowns is still dangerous and unstable. In an attempt to help them keep in touch with who they are, have pride in where they come from while facing the daily discrimination and racism in Thailand and promote better familial communications, we started the Shan Cultural Preservation Project. We teach them how to read and write their own language (most of them speak it but aren't literate) about their history and customs, traditional dress and dance styles, foods and so much more, cultivating self confidence and self love through understanding and appreciation.
We have three dance troupes as part of this project under Thai Freedom House, a children's group, teenager group and adult group which are open to any ethnicity, religion and gender. The classes are taught by peer volunteers who are also our students and they even design their own dresses in the traditional styles, their parents and extended families are so proud of them as they perform on the big stages at temple festivals and the huge celebration in Chiang Mai and Mae Rim for Shan New Year on stage in front of thousands.
We are immensely happy to be able to provide this kind of encouragement and appreciation of traditional culture. 【 Ballad of Nature 】 a collaborative performance project between the contemporary shadow theatre, the Malaysian percussion and the Northern Thai folk music instruments by the Wandering Moon Shadow Theatre - Thailand, Orang Orang Drum Theatre – Malaysia, Thitipol Kantiwong and a crew of students from the Music and Performance Division, Department of Thai Art, Faculty of Fine Arts, Chiang Mai University, Thailand. The combination fulfils sound and visual expression in the theme of the Mother Earth. The story of nature’s circle will be divided into 4 parts, starting from Nature, Rice Seed, Disaster, and Reborn.
During the collaborative process, the artists will also conduct a workshop with a group of students of the Music and Performance Division, Department of Thai Art, Faculty of Fine Arts, Chiang Mai University, Thailand. The students will also join the final show with the artists.
The show is held on 12 October 2016 at the Center for the Promotion of Arts and Culture, Chiang Mai University, Chaing Mai, Thailand.
This show is co-organized by the Asian Culture Station and the Wandering Moon Shadow Theatre.'

Tung Chen-yuan promotes Hualien to Thai tourists in wake of earthquake
Tourism in Hualien has taken a serious blow since the series of major earthquakes earlier this month. Now Taiwan’s de facto ambassador to Thailand, Tung Chen-yuan, has held a promotional tour to promote the delights of the region to a Thai audience, in collaboration with media, businesspeople, and even internet celebrities. Since the earthquake, tourism has been struggling in Hualien. Tung Chen-yuan, head of the Taipei Economic and Cultural Office in Thailand, has joined with Taiwanese business people and Thai media to promote Hualien as a tourist destination. The installation art Wang SourYen represents the identity of the character of a Super Heroes of Lanna. It consists of a view of Lanna culture through superhero contents with the combination of multiple perspectives using Lanna art and contemporary digital art. The space simulating as heaven where the imagination of the character’s mindset describes of a peaceful city living in harmony with all built on it. The haze pollution problem in Chiang Mai is also promoting the views on the issue of Superhero of the Lanna contents to protect the city. On the other hand, this art work shows of Int’s home from his imagination where it is peaceful and beautiful. Varieties of emotions in the area such as a mysterious, exciting, sadness and powerful are combined in the space by using a variety of media, light, Colors, sounds and smells.
