Cricket Ground Chail, Solan, Himachal Pradesh
Since, Maharaja Bhupender Singh, who made Chail his summer capital, was a cricket enthusiast, he built a cricket ground here, on the top of a hill, making Chail, the proud home to the highest cricket ground in the world.
Situated at an altitude of 2144 m, the area is also used as a polo ground. This ground is now maintained by the Army since it is located in the Cantonment area. Civilians are not allowed to enter the ground, though one can look and walk around the area

The cold desert of Lahaul-Spiti in Himachal Pradesh, known for its barren beauty and tough terrain, would appear to be the unlikeliest place on earth for a game of cricket. But it's in the rarified air of this remote district that a local sports association plans to build the world's highest cricket stadium on the lines of the majestic ground at Dharamsala. At present, the Chail cricket ground of Solan, at an altitude of 7,380 feet above sea level, is considered the highest cricket ground. The Chail ground was built by royal family of erstwhile Patiala state in 1893. The Lahaul-Spiti association had floated the idea of the stadium two years ago and had submitted a proposal to the district administration.

At present, the Chail cricket ground of Solan, at an altitude of 7,380 feet above sea level, is considered the highest cricket ground. The Chail ground was built by royal family of erstwhile Patiala state in 1893. The Lahaul-Spiti association had floated the idea of the stadium two years ago and had submitted a proposal to the district administration. After getting no-objection certificates from the forest and revenue departments, it now wants to start acquiring land. Vice-chairman of the National Commission for Scheduled Tribes and Lahaul-Spiti's Congress MLA Ravi Thakur said that for the stadium's construction, the state government would provide all financial assistance. He said that Sissu is already a part of the Adarsh Gram scheme and the stadium would be its integral part. The stadium would be included in the tribal sub plan next year, he said. There would be no dearth of funds. Thakur said that stadium would be built on the pattern of Dharamsala stadium and would have all the required facilities for the players and viewers. This would be the first stadium in this tribal district, he added. He said that while the general public was giving liberal donations earlier, now even the local MLA Ravi Thakur has pitched in to bring Lahaul-Spiti on the cricketing map.

Chail is a hill station in Himachal Pradesh, India. It is 44 kilometres (27 mi) from Shimla and 45 kilometres (28 mi) from Solan. It is known for its salubrious beauty and virgin forests.The Chail Palace is well known for its architecture: the palace was built as summer retreat by the Maharaja of Patiala during the British Raj, on the land allotted to him by the British for former's assistance in the Anglo-Nepalese War. The cricket ground and a polo ground which is there at an altitude of 2,250 m was owned by erstwhile royal family of Patiala. It is the world's highest cricket ground.
Chail is also frequented by hikers as it offers wonderful views of the lower Himalayas. It has good trekking points from Junga, Kufri and Ashwani Khad at Solan. Many Eco camps are held here. There are many camping sites for campers and hikers, so camping in Chail is most sought after activity for enthusiasts.
In 1891, Maharaja Rajendra of Patiala incurred the rage of Lord Kitchener. It led to the restriction of his entry in the Indian summer capital, Shimla. This incensed the Maharaja and he vowed to build a new summer retreat for himself. So he rebuilt the place (Chail) as per his requirements.
After accession to the Indian Union, Maharaja of Patiala donated most of his buildings to Chail Military School and Government of India.It is a very good place.

The ground is located at an altitude of 2,444 metres (8,018 ft). Chail served as the summer capital of Maharaja Bhupinder Singh (who was an avid cricket lover). It is used as the school playground by Chail Military School. During school vacations it is also used as a polo ground. This is my first RoadTrip on a bike from Delhi to Chail which is one of a nearest hill station from Delhi NCR. It’s also know as the hidden paradise for peace lovers as we do no have much of a tourist here.

Best Time To Visit Chail
Summer (March end to mid June) – This is considered the best time to visit Chail. Many tourists come over to take a break from the scorching heat. The weather during this time in Chail stays pleasant, allowing the tourists to enjoy sightseeing and relax.
Autumn (September to November) – Autumn is a good time to visit Chail. Along with pleasant weather, you’ll find lesser tourists and thus good deals on hotel bookings.

1. School Playground
School Play Ground tops the list of best places to visit in Chail. It is a small town that once served as the summer capital of Maharaja Bhupinder Singh, an avid cricket lover. He commissioned this cricket ground that sits at an altitude of 7500 ft and is the highest cricket ground in the world.
The ground is maintained by Army officials as it is a part of the cantonment region. Tourists can enjoy a walk around and click pictures, but they are not permitted to enter the ground.
2. Sadhupul Lake
Sadhupul Lake is one of the top places to visit in Chail. The highlight here is the lake restaurant that serves snacks such as Maggi and bread-omlette. Munch on your choicest snacks and beverages as you dip your feet in cold lake water, and enjoy the breezy weather and lush green surroundings. You will have the time of your life here and will not be disappointed by everything that this lake has to offer.
3. Chail Palace Hotel
Built in 1891, Chail Palace was owned by the Maharaja of Patiala. Ever since it got converted to a heritage hotel, it has become one of the top tourist attractions in Chail, Himachal Pradesh. Classic furniture, and historic interior are reminiscent of the royal lifestyle in the erstwhile era.
You can find many cottages in Chail, but this is the best option for a cozy yet classy staycation. In case, you’re not in for a stay, you can enjoy a short visit to a part of this palace.
4. Kali Ka Tibba
Kali Ka Tibba, or Kali Temple, is located right at the top of a hill. There is absolutely nothing surrounding the temple, other than a few trees. One of the most beautiful places to see in Chail, the temple is popular for the magnificent views it provides, along with many activities such as horse-riding and angling.
It took us 13 hour Ride and exact 362Kms with total three stops excluding loo breaks.
