Time Lapse Drive: Mount Baker to Bellingham, Washington - SR 542
March 31, 2019 - It's a beautiful day in early spring - what better time to go for a Sunday Drive along the Mount Baker Highway, a National Forest Scenic Byway in Washington State!
Starting at the Mount Baker Ski Resort - the eastern terminus of State Route 542 - I drive the entire length of the highway westbound to its western terminus and beyond to the centre of Downtown Bellingham: Boundary Bay Brewing! Gotta get my growler filled up, after all!

Best of Bellingham, Washington - Oyster Dome Hike
The Oyster Dome - a great hike overlooking the San Juan Islands in the Chuckanut Mountains near Bellingham, Washington is a great way to kick off the spring/summer hiking season in the Pacific Northwest.
The weather is getting better and better - and it looks like Spring is here to stay.
Catch the Pacific Northwest Trail right off Route 11 and head up (I had forgotten how much uphill is in this trail) until you have a choice to either head right towards the Samish Overlook or left towards the Oyster Dome and Lily/Lizard Lakes.
Beautiful scenery along the way - small flowing streams, tall trees and splendid views of the Islands.
Once at the Dome, don't get too close to the edge, it's a long way down the cliff - but sit down, enjoy the views, have a picnic, chit chat with fellow hikers, watch the Bald Eagles flying or just sit back, chill and suntan.
There's no life like the good life, I like to say. This is a great hike to kick off the sunny season!
Enjoy!

Skagit Running Company - Mount Vernon Washington
Welcome to the Skagit Running Company, located in Old Town Mount Vernon since 1985. During that time we've built up a well-earned reputation for quality products, friendly personalized service, and well-informed advice to the local community in and around Skagit County.
As a family-run store, we offer the kind of personal attention and expert footwear health advice you won't get from catalogue retailers or anonymous chain stores. We listen to each individual customer's needs, measure their foot size, and assess their gait type to find the best possible footwear for them. When trying on our shoes, you're even welcome to walk around in the street outside our store so you can test them properly.
Getting the right shoes really does matter. If you're on your feet all day at work, you'll need shoes that are comfortable but provide great support and help to prevent accidents on slippery surfaces. Shoes for outdoor pursuits like biking and walking, on the other hand, need to be tough and durable on surfaces like dirt and gravel. If you need smart shoes for an office job, you'll find we provide those too, and we'll advise you how to match them to your suits.
Your shoes should fit the bio-mechanics of your feet. We'll establish whether you're a pronator, supernator or overpronator (these are types of walking gait), and take this into account when recommending shoes to you.
We stock a wide range of quality footwear including such brands as Brooks, Pearl Izumi, Vasque, Columbia, Keen and Dansko. Children's sizes are also available.
We're actively involved in local running events in Skagit County, and we're usually on hand at the Fowl Fun Run in November, the April Tulip Run, and the Skagit Flats Marathon and Half-Marathon, plus many smaller events. We also visit local schools to advise on the importance of healthy footwear.
Tours Northwest
will introduce you to our city and the spectacular scenery around us. Our guides will entertain, inform and educate you with narratives about the culture, history and geography of the Pacific Northwest.

Bagley Lake (North), Mt. Baker Nat. Forest, WA
This is a panorama of North Bagley Lake, WA-- taken in mid June below the large parking lot slightly south of the dam. North Bagley lake is man made. (South Bagley Lake, which is located about 3/4 of a mile south of the large parking lot) is not. During spring the parking lot serves as the end of the Mount Baker Highway. In early July the road is plowed further up the hill, which eventually leads several miles further to end at Artist's Point.
