Champaign is a city in Champaign County, Illinois, United States. The city is located 135 miles south of Chicago, 124 miles west of Indianapolis, Indiana, and 178 mi northeast of St. Louis, Missouri. Champaign is notable for sharing the campus of the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign with its sister city of Urbana. Champaign is also the home of Parkland College which serves about 18,000 students during the academic year. Due to the university and a number of well known technology startup companies, it is often referred to as the hub, or a significant landmark, of the Silicon Prairie. Champaign houses offices for Abbott, Archer Daniels Midland, Caterpillar, Deere & Company, Dow Chemical Company, IBM, State Farm, and Science Applications International Corporation, all of which are Fortune 500 companies, and for Sony.
The United States Census Bureau estimates the city was home to 84,513 people as of July 1, 2014. Champaign is the tenth-most populous city in Illinois, and the fourth-most populous city in the state outside of the Chicago metropolitan area. In 2013, Champaign was rated fifth best place in the United States for a healthy work-life balance.

On January 28, President Bill Clinton visited the University of Illinois the day after making his State of the Union address before Congress in Washington, D.C., seven days after the Washington Post first published a story about the Monica Lewinsky scandal, and two days after Clinton denied having sexual relations with that woman, Monica Lewinsky.
In Champaign, Clinton repeated many of the themes that he addressed in his State of the Union: the importance of education, the need to shore up Social Security, the need to increase medical and scientific funding.
As the president was aboard Air Force One, and the plane was preparing for take-off, its right wheel stuck in the mud at Willard Airport in Champaign.
The presidential party transferred to Air Force Two and departed. It was the last time that plane, which flew John F. Kennedy to Dallas before he was assassinated, was flown before being placed in an air museum.

Historic Macoupin County Courthouse in Carlinville IL
Dubbed the Million Dollar Courthouse by locals, this amazing building experienced many delays and cost overruns during it's construction. It was designed by the same architect that designed the Capital Building in Springfield. It was built over the course of about four years from 1867 - 1870. The McLean County Arts Center presents Emerging Illinois Artists in the Brandt Gallery April 29 – June 11, 201
Emerging Illinois Artists is a triennial juried exhibition featuring artwork by MFA students currently enrolled or recently graduated from an Illinois university. This year 34 pieces from 20 artists were selected by the juror Kelly Shindler, Associate Curator at the Contemporary Art Museum St. Louis. Reflecting on and wrestling with contemporary ideas in art making, the painting, sculpture, video, and installation will challenge and expand expectations of a gallery experience.

The McLean County Arts Center offers, with its central location, accessibility to those all over the state to visit the exhibition and see the work of the fine artists being educated at Illinois universities. As ultimate peers, MFA students steer through the rite of passage that is graduate school. Using the wide range of media offered to them, experimenting with scale and presentation, and probing the intellectual and emotional fabric of their lives, their journey will be evidenced and celebrated in this exhibition. The McLean County Arts Center has been hosting the triennial Emerging Illinois Artists exhibition since 2004.
Emerging Illinois Artists juror Kelly Shindler has worked in the field of contemporary art exhibition and programming for over ten years. She joined the Contemporary Art Museum St. Louis (CAM) in 2011. She holds Master’s degrees in Modern Art History, Theory, and Criticism and Arts Administration and Policy from the School of the Art Institute of Chicago, as well as a B.A. in English Literature from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.
This exhibition is generously sponsored Linda Willis Fisher & Robert Fisher, The School of the Art Institute of Chicago, and Illinois State University School of Art.

Most of us think about history in terms of the events we have personally witnessed. But history precedes us and then continues with the next generations, says John Paul, host of the WILL-TV's Illinois Pioneers. This episode shows how the history of the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign is much richer than most of those who pass through the campus realize.
Paul interviews Professor Emeritus Winton Solberg, author of three books on the university's past, as they discuss the formative years of the university, even before it made its home in Urbana-Champaign. Had it not been for the efforts of a particularly vigorous and vocal politician, Clark Griggs, the university might have ended up in Jacksonville, Bloomington-Normal or Lincoln. Paul says the agreement to found the university in Urbana was Illinois politics as usual. Strings were pulled. Deals were made.

If you like to see an old fashioned fry cook work behind the counter this is the place to go. Sam knows how to cook good, fresh food fast and I'm always amazed to see how many customers he can serve in a very short time. Max Abramovitz created spaces for the campus to come together. Robert Zuppke changed football and expressed himself through art and Lorado Taft gave Illinois its most beloved symbol, the Alma Mater. The program was produced by Tim Hartin, Kaitlin Southworth and Alison Davis Wood for the University of Illinois Department of Athletics and Office of Public Affairs.

2016 Orpheum Archaeology Exhibit
The Orpheum Children's Science Musuem, the Archaeology Student Society at the University of Illinois, dedicated volunteers, help from the Illinois State Archaeological Survey, and generous donors brought a new archaeology exhibit to the Orpheum. A year in the making, the student group partnered and fundraised to bring this fun and interactive exhibit to the community.
