Before you visit Chiang Mai please do your research about ethical treatment of Elephants and go to a camp or sanctuary - please don't ride the elephants! Riding of them is terrible for them and theres some really bad procedures used on baby elephants to make them subservient and broken.

Baan Chang Elephant Park - Chiang Mai, Thailand
On October 21st, 2016, my wife & I went to the Baan Chang Elephant Park in Chiang Mai, Thailand. We spent the entire day getting to know most of the 47 elephants they have rescued. We were able to feed them in the morning and after learning the proper commands, we got to ride them around the park.

CAMP THAILAND-VOLUNTEERING AT THE ELEPHANT NATURE PARK ( CHANG MAI)
This is a day in the life of volunteering at the Elephant Nature Park, which is apart of the Camp Thailand program. Spending three days here was amazing and I really hope to come back one day to visit all the elephants which came to have a special place in my heart. A usual day of volunteering includes preparing the food, feeding the elephants, clearing out the shelters and bathing them in the river. We were very lucky to be able to go Tubing down the river at the end of the day which was a lot of fun. Stay updated for my next video where I will be going into detail about what the elephant nature park hopes to achieve in ending the abuse of elephants in Thailand and around Asia and how we as tourists can help stop this exploitation by funding certain activities such as elephant riding, all will be explained in the next video.

Visiting Elephant Park in Chiangmai, Thailand (BEST LIFE EXPERIENCE EVER)
We went to Banchang Elephant Park to visit these beautiful creatures that we loved caring for. If you happen to go to Chiangmai, then visiting elephant sanctuary is a must! We picked an organization that did not advertise riding on elephants because they are not a car or a carriage that we can ride on..instead, we got to bond with them one to one which made us feel so attached to them because they are so loving.. hope you all enjoy this vlog..

Patara Elephant Farm in Chiang Mai, Thailand (See Description)
***UPDATE as of 2/5/2016: I don’t fully support Patara Elephant Farm anymore after the reality of their practices were fully disclosed to me. For sure, I love that they help these animals breed and they wholly care for their health. Their team really takes care of them on that aspect; but at the very core… the elephants are still trained and tamed to interact with people — and this just makes me sad. It makes me even more sad and ethically-conflicted that I have unknowingly supported this activity.
Now why do I say this? For instance, I just found out that the reason why all their attendants have shoulder bags with them is because they are hiding their bull hooks in it — just in case the elephants do something that they don’t instruct them to do. I was even properly educated of the fact that if they are still able to interact with tourists and do these rides (even though deemed as safer), then it means that they are still “broken” and tamed. (You will see in the video as well how they can still perform tricks: raising their trunks, splashing water on us, etc.) For sure some have been rescued from circus so they still know these tricks; but don’t you think it’s a bit cruel to let them continue such a practice? Elephants are not meant to be pets. They are meant for the wild.
Additionally, since these animals have been “broken”, there is still a chance that they can show their cruelty after all the harsh treatment they have received — so your safety isn’t exactly guaranteed in Patara (this is why you’ll be signing documents before the experience). We must remember that elephants belong to the wild — they’re not meant to mingle with us humans. With this in mind, if you want a more responsible activity with elephants in Thailand, please go to Elephant Nature Park instead which is also located in Chiang Mai.
Meanwhile, I have decided to leave this video and keep the article on my website AS IS and not edit anything to show you how the ‘hype’ of the experience has mislead me; but that I hope with this warning at the start, it will highlight to you the things that we did that then proves this claim.
But of course, overall: I leave it up to you to decide whether you will visit Patara or not. But it is my wish that this note will urge you to think harder and choose a better activity that does not contribute to the harm of these gentle giants. Better yet, I hope Patara changes its program and function more like that of a nature reserve like Elephant Nature Park.

WHAT TO DO IN CHIANG MAI: ELEPHANT SANCTUARY
Music: Big And Chunky (Album Version) by Will.I.Am
????Hi and welcome to my vlog. I am an ESL Instructor at a rural university in Southern China. Originally I'm from New Zealand.
I went to Chiang Mai, Thailand for 6 days and the Elephant sanctuary was definitely the highlight of my trip.
I chose a half day tour for 1500Baht and they picked me up at 7am and we drove for about 1.5 hours to the mountains just outside Chiang Mai city.
I chose this elephant sanctuary for a couple of reasons. Firstly, I love elephants, I think they are majestic animals that should always be treated kindly.
Chang sanctuary does not ride on the elephants, they don't work, they get fed, play and enjoy their lives.
The 3 elephants at Chang Sanctuary were all female and all pregnant. Elephants stay pregnant for 24 months!!
I was also really lucky because I was the only person who had booked the morning tour, so I had the elephants all to myself!!
If you are thinking about going to see elephants in Thailand, I highly recommend Chang Sanctuary in Chiang Mai.

Kanta Elephant Sanctuary and Cowboy Hat Lady (Chiang Mai, Thailand)
Started our day off at Kanta Elephant Sanctuary. Playing and washing the elephants was one of the coolest activities that we've ever done! Next we fulfilled one of Ian's goals and ate pork leg from the famous Cowboy hat lady at the night market (as seen on Anthony Bourdain) Finally we ended our night at Zoe, one of Chiang Mai's most popular bars! We didn't include the footage from the bar in this vlog because we already showed Zoe on the previous vlog.
