Changgyeonggung Palace Seoul Korea
Changgyeong Palace is located in Seoul, South Korea. Originally the Summer Palace of the Goryeo King, it later became one of the Five Grand Palaces of the Joseon Dynasty.
The palace was originally built as Suganggung by King Sejong for his father, Taejong, but in 1483 renovated and enlarged by King Seongjong at which time it received its current name.
During the Japanese colonial period, the Japanese built a zoo, botanical garden, and museum on the site. In 1983 the zoo and botanical garden were removed. Like the other Five Grand Palaces, Changgyeonggung was heavily damaged by the Japanese, previously having been destroyed by them in 1598 during the unsuccessful Japanese invasion of Korea.
Living in Korea Vlog #4- Stroll at Changgyeonggung Palace 창경궁 산책
In this vlog, I visited Changgyeonggung Palace in Seoul for the first time. It was really exciting to visit because although I had been to the other palaces multiple times, I had never been to this one. The admission is so cheap it might as well be free (about $1) and free tours are offered in a variety of languages. I saw a couple taking wedding photos, a nature photographer, and a lot of people simply enjoying the beautiful parkland. I also sat under a 400-year-old tree and explained a bit about what I have been up to since my last video. This palace is one of the lesser known ones but definitely worth a visit, especially if you want to skip the lines at Gyeongbokgung and other more well-known palaces.
