Boom Boom Girl Cards in Chinese Hotels
These are the cards that are slid under doors in middle and lower tier Chinese hotel rooms advertising the services of prostitutes. This is something that is very common, and the distribution of the cards and the acts they imply are done with the complacency and often outright support of the hotel -- they take their cut. Note: I misspoke in this video, these cards are generally not distributed in four and five star hotel.

STORYLINE:
AP Television filmed aerial shots of the Olympic facilities and surrounding areas in Beijing on Sunday.
Blue skies presented the perfect opportunity for a bird's eye view of Beijing's Olympic sights.
Flying in a People's Liberation Army helicopter, AP Television travelled over the vast Olympic site, which will play host to the 2008 Games from August 8 to August 24, then onwards to the ancient, so-called, Forbidden City
The Chinese military authorities, who facilitated the flight, insisted on reviewing the footage before it aired. None of the images appear to have been erased or altered.

Richard's site:
In this episode of My Life in China, we're back with Richard Ramsundar, an AYC Educational Ambassador living and working in Li County, Changde, China.
Life is starting to normalize as his routine averages out. He no longer feels as though he's traveling around. He spends time playing ping pong in the park, exploring Li County on his bike, and spending time with his students. He's happy to be in Li county, as it's a small town atmosphere and everyone is extremely welcoming and happy to have him, and he's experiencing a place filled with traditions as well as the present modernization, an example of that being the American themed bar in town which he frequents.
Richard has been hanging out with Bi, a manager at the local beer factory who has taken him under his wing, helping him adjust to life in China and showing him around the town. He always feels he can turn to Bi for help with anything. Richard teaches him English in exchange for Mandarin lessons and they've built a really great relationship through learning. Richard has been getting to know Bi's friends and family. They spent a day in the countryside at Bi's family's farm. The whole family gathered for a big meal and they were all very excited to hang out with Richard and celebrate new friends.
Every couple of weeks Richard heads to Changsha, the nearby larger city, where several of his friends from home are living and working. He went there for thanksgiving.
He uses several tools such as the show Adventure Time to teach slang to his students and runs an American media class. He takes advantage of the academic setting to perfect his own skills; such as learning Mandarin and Japanese, and his newfound interest in cooking.
He spent a weekend in Xian, a famous, ancient Chinese city most known for the Terra Cotta Warriors. He met up with some friends from home and new ones he met at the AYC Shanghai orientation and explored Xian. They saw the old marvels of the city and spent time on Huimin Street, the famous Muslim quarter of the city known for incredible food and rich culture.
Follow him on Instagram at @theworldisrich.

When U.S. President Richard M. Nixon descended the steps into history on his first visit to China in 1972 only the most prescient of futurist could have predicted the meteoric growth and transformation that the Peoples Republic of China has experienced in the subsequent decades. Beijing has an amazing history exemplified by three of the city’s most impressive historic attractions: Tiananmen Square, The Forbidden City and the Temple of Heaven. Early mornings many Chinese start their day with tai chi chuan at the Temple of Heaven, a calm and controlled exercise of the body and mind. The Imperial Palace was off limits to the public for over 500 years and was hence known as the Forbidden City. Now a UNESCO World Heritage site, it is now the Imperial Palace Museum and the largest and best-preserved example of ancient Chinese buildings and culture in China. One of the main entrances is just off Tiananmen Square, the worlds largest public square. Nearby, hutongs (old neighborhoods) still exist surrounded by 20th century progress. The Summer Palace is the largest imperial garden in the world and is a great example of classical Chinese garden architecture. The Great Wall of China was first built in the 7th century as a defense against the Mongolians when China was still divided into many small states and today it still twists and winds along hill crests, gorges, and rivers for thousands of miles. In 1974, a group of peasants uncovered some pottery while digging for a well and accidentally uncovered the remains of one of the greatest archeological discoveries of the century. These artifacts were associated with the Qin Dynasty (211-206 BC) and are now known as the Xi’an Terracotta Warriors. Life-size terracotta figures of warriors and horses arranged in battle formations are the star features. One of the most spectacular landscapes in China is Guilin and the Li River with it’s limestone towers and the view from a river cruise through it’s crystal-clear water is outstanding. Nearby Yangshuo City Market is a site to behold with everything very fresh! Hong Kong is a kaleidoscope of life, a blending of East and West in a city of diversity where new and old meet at every turn. Symphony of Lights, The Star Ferry, world’s longest open-air escalator, markets and fantastic historical photos taken from Victoria Peak all leave an indelible impression. Hangshou is considered one of the 10 most scenic cities in China and Shanghai, one of the largest urban areas in the world, is recognized as China's most important centre of commerce. A cosmopolitan city buzzing with a 'lifestyle revolution', shown in the architectural temples of art, fine dining and contemporary urban living on the Bund.

Prostitution in Chinese hotel: a Chinese mascarade
I am not debating prostitution here, but the huge mascarade in China. While the government talks about moral, most hotels make a large part of their income from prostitution.
Ancient tower hosts 24-hour bookstore in Beijing
A 24-hour bookstore has been launched in the 600-year-old Yanchi tower of Beijing. The store promises an oasis of calm for those seeking refuge from big-city bustle.
Chinese Villages
This is an average Chinese Village near Kunming. I'm not sure if I should say Ghost Cities are surrounded by Villages like this, or Villages link this are now surrounded by Ghost Cities and Malls. Sorry it sounds a bit negative, but even though this place seems loud, dusty and poor, I like the environment and the people there more than the stressed unfriendly folks in the city center.
扬州 Yangzhou-- A Beautiful City
My hometown, Yangzhou, has a history of 2500 years; since ancient time a leading economic and cultural center and major port for foreign trade and external exchange on the lower reaches of the Yangtze and Huaihe rivers. Yangzhou is without a doubt a top tourist city in China, with fascinating beauty. With a long history of over two thousand years, the city has accumulated numerous culture assets. It also possesses rich tourist resources such as endless water scenes, tastefully landscaped gardens as well as a varied architecture, in both magnificent and simple delicate styles. The most famous attractions include Slender West Lake, Ge Garden, He Garden and Daming Monastery. It is also famous for the Huaiyang Cuisine such as Yangzhou Fried Rice, Pickles, Sticky Candy, Ginkgo, Qionghuayu Liquor, Nanshan Green Tea, Baoying Lotus Root Starch, Jiangdu Short Pastry.

Beijing, China, February 2010.
This is from my last day traveling in Beijing, China and just decided to go through a walking tour of some of the allies (hutongs) and bypasses (xiejjie), in between my hostel and the Tian'anmen.
