A TOUR OF CHANIA, CRETE | Is It Worth Visiting?
Chania, Crete, Greece. Walking around.
Chania, Crete Travel Vlog Walking Tour + Eating Fusion Greek Italian Food
We continued our tour of The Old Venetian Harbor in Chania (also known as Hania or Χανιά in Greek) in Crete, but this time we took some of the smaller streets to continue exploring! This Old World town is full of Mediterranean charm and you can see the Greek, Venetian Italian and Ottoman Turkish influences on almost every corner.
We toured the old town of Chania, admired some of its old walls where people have now built houses, ate at an Italian restaurant and admired the shipyards.
Make no mistake about it - if you come here, you will want to come back! The majestic feeling you get here, whether it's due to the freshness of the air created by the breeze that cuts the intense summer heat just at the perfect time, the laid back island vibe of the people, the time-machine feels that spring back to life the past of the Old Town of Chania, or maybe because looking past the Lighthouse of Chania into the great midst of the Agean sea seems to magnify that feeling of discovery and exploration, that quiver that embodies any traveler's first taste of the surreality of the Greek island experience, can't help but make you feel like you are at the crossroads of centuries of cultural intermingling. It is truly a traveler's paradise.

In our videos, you will see me and Robyn tackle every obstacle that traveling with kids throws at us. We do traveling almost exactly the same way we did before having kids, it just takes a little bit more planning these days. The result, however, is simply more fun! It's also very rewarding to be able to show the kids new cultures and live new experiences with them at the same time. Our mission is to inspire other Millennials to travel with kids.

Chania, Greece Walking Tour In The Rain in 4K
Chania is a great town for just walking around. It has a gorgeous harbor front. Try starting in the harbor’s eastern edge in the marina, where the venetian boat yards are and maybe have your eye on a dockside taverna for later. If you are up to it you can walk out to the Egyptian lighthouse from here but definitely do this before dark because it can be a little bumpy. From the lighthouse you have a great view (and photos!) of the main harbor.
Then explore the main harbor. The waterfront has some of the more touristy restaurants, but the back alleys are magical. Some restaurants are in the picturesque ruins of old houses, open to the starry skies above.
By day, you won’t want to miss the Agora – the traditional covered marketplace – which opened in 1913. You will find some gifts and shops clearly catering to tourists, but for the most part this is what it has always been, a play for people to get their olives and cheeses, their fresh meats, produce, and their just-caught fish. If you like edible souvenirs, herbs are always a good choice and you can also try coarse salt or shrink-packed olives.
There is an Archaeological Museum in a gorgeous location- the Monastery of St. Francis. It features Minoan and Roman artifacts. The Nautical museum is also interesting because of the city’s fascinating maritime history.
The Public Garden – just in from the Agora’s main entrance. There is an elegant small mansion that serves as a cafe, and there are white peacocks and goats which make it a nice visit with children. Do you like the cinema? The open air cinema is also here in a fragrant garden. Movies are screened in their original language with Greek Subtitles (except for childrens’ films, which are generally dubbed).
Locals love Kalo Chori- the marina and beach just west of the port. You’ll find a fine city beach and some charming tavernas here.
This is CHANIA, CRETE. ???????? Is it the Best city in Greece? What to do in Crete.
We spent a day exploring the beautiful Cretan city of Chania! It can be found on the north west side of the island of Crete (the largest Greek island).
We begin the day at Nea Chora beach, which is right in town. Here you’ll find lots of restaurants and bars along with beach chairs and umbrellas that you can rent for about 5 Euros.
Next we explore the old Venetian city walls which surround the old city. After walk up on the walls we come down to check out the Old Venetian port as well as the lighthouse, which happens to be one of the oldest in the world.
Lastly we explore the cute streets of the old city and stop to try to Cretan pies filled with spinach and mizithra cheese as well as some Greek coffee.

Crete:It is the largest of the Greek islands and is in the Mediterranean Sea between the Sea of Crete and the Libyan Sea, south of the Peloponnese. Crete is approximately 260 km long and 60 km wide. Crete consists of four prefectures: Chania, Rethimno, Heraklion and Lasithi. If there was a beauty contest for Greek islands, Crete would surely be among the favorites. Indeed, some say there is no place on earth like Crete. This view is strongly supported by those fortunate enough to have visited the island. Crete, with a population of approximately 650,000, is not just sun, sea and sand; it is a quite distinct place full of vitality, warmth, hospitality, culture and of course an excellent infrastructure. Crete is well known for its seas and beaches but it has a very contrasting landscape.
Nea Chora Beach: It means new town, and it was the first modern part of Chania outside the venetian fortification wall. New Chora has a fishing harbour and a great beach to enjoy. You will find plenty of traditional cafes and sea food restaurants around the place. It is a great alternative to the old town because you have a beach at your doorstep, great parking place, and some of the best fish restaurants in the area.
Chania (also spelled: Haniá)is the capital city, a place where different civilizations have flourished throughout the centuries. Wandering around the Old Town’s maze-like alleys with the beautiful Venetian mansions, the fountains and the elaborate churches will help you discover well-preserved historical monuments.

Chania, Crete is an amazing old town, that’s rich with culture, and has some seriously delicious Greek island food to discover. In this video, you’ll find some of the must-eat restaurants and street food stalls to try, if you love to eat, when you’re in Chania, Crete!
Here are all the places featured in this Cretan food tour of Chania:
Μπουγάτσα Χανίων - For breakfast there’s no better place in Chania to get started than this local spot that specializes in bougatsa, and amazing cheese filled pastry. You can eat it with or without sugar, both was delicious, but I liked it without sugar.
Total price - 5.40 EUR for 2
Oasis - For street food, this is about as good as Greek food gets. Oasis is a local gem that serves Cretan Greek gyro pita, a spit of pork that revolves and slow cooks. When you order, you get pita, filled with gyro meat, seasoning and tzatziki to top it off. It’s outstanding.
Gyro pita - 2 EUR each
Old Chania Market (Agora Market) - One of the many best things to do in Chania, Crete, is walk around the Old Chania Market, especially if you love to eat. I chose to eat at a restaurant called Αγαπήνης Οινομαγειρείο, that serves traditional Cretan food. It’s a market atmosphere, and the food is outstanding.
Total price - 21 EUR for everything
Attractions in Chania - Agios Nikolaos, Chania Promenade, Lighthouse - In the afternoon I did some sightseeing in Chania, which is a very charming town. I would highly recommend taking the walk out to the end of the lighthouse. The views are spectacular.
Thalassino Ageri Restaurant - For dinner in Chania, we walked over to a restaurant called Thalassino Ageri Restaurant a legendary Greek seafood restaurant, along the coast, in an area of town with abandoned buildings. The setting is superb, and they offer a variety of seafood, including fresh fish catch of the day. We ordered a bunch of seafood, and enjoyed the gorgeous environment.
Total price - 74.90 EUR

Unseen Chania, Crete Travel Vlog 4K: Greek Islands Walking Tour With GoPro Hero5 Black
Crete is the biggest of all Greek islands and we literally get lost in its most charming city, Chania, in this video. Yes, I said literally. This is was shot on the GoPro Hero5 Black in stunning 4K, and it took a while to uploaded...lol. But regardless, I'm glad to show unseen parts of one of the most charming cities I've ever traveled to in Greece, but also in all of Europe, in this video.
We start from our Airbnb apartment in the old city centre and make our way to Portes Restaurant ( through the back-alleys outside the old city walls. The owners speak with a charming British accent and are very friendly, and their food is really good as well. After feasting there, we enjoy a relaxing afternoon at the beach.
Chania (Chaniá) is an amazingly unique city in that it combines old-world charms due to the years it spent under Venetian Italian, Ottoman Turkish as well as Greek influence, with amazing cuisine influenced by its varied past and the practical proximity of numerous beaches that can help refresh any tourist on a hot summer day in Greece. The beach was packed when we went, as you can see in the video.
