Travel - Charleston Tea Plantation - Charleston, SC
We drove just a few miles south of the historic city of Charleston the Charleston Tea Plantation is located on historic Wadmalaw Island in the heart of the Lowcountry of South Carolina. The history of the Island dates back to mid-June of 1666 when it is believed that Captain Robert Sanford and the crew of the Berkeley Bay landed on the shores of what is now known as Rockville, South Carolina. On June 23, 1666, he and his crew claimed the land for England and the Lords Proprietors. Today, Wadmalaw is considered to be one of Charleston's most unspoiled islands. It is approximately 10 miles long and 6 miles wide. The Island's only connection to the mainland is a bridge that crosses over Church Creek.

As of January 2015, we had started walking down a path of changes to meet a five-year goal of traveling the United States viewing and enjoying the beauty of the canvas that our Heavenly Father has painted for us to live in.
In May 2015 we bought a 28 foot Class C motor home that we called Maycee. On September 16th, we had an accident and Maycee was totaled, so we are now embarking on finding a replacement in addition to working on a homestead that we will use as our home base.
We invite you to come and enjoy the journey with us!

Tea Plantations - Top 5 Fun Facts
Tea Plantations - Top 5 Fun Facts as part of the expert series by GeoBeats.
Tea was invented in China purely by accident, when several leaves fell into an Emperor's pot of boiling water.
Teabags evolved in a similar fashion, when customers were confused by the small bags of sample tea and placed them directly into the water.
Most tea plant varieties only grow in warm climates, so the tea plantations exist predominately in Asia.
There is only one tea plantation in the United States: Bigelow Tea's Charleston Tea Plantation in South Carolina.
In can take nearly fifteen years before tea plants are ready to start producing a crop of tea leaves that can be harvested.

When you think of characteristics of the South, one of the first things many think about is sweet tea. On a small sea island off the coast of South Carolina, two guys are capitalizing on this with their wildly popular brand Firefly and signature beverage Sweet Tea Vodka. With tons of South Carolina pride and a sense of tradition, the Firefly brand is creating waves in the distilling business!
