Local's Guide to Mt. Juliet
Mount Juliet is a small town that shares all the conveniences of its neighbors in Nashville to the west and nearby Lebanon (said: Leban-nun) to the east. With a prosperous business life, ample social activities, and high ranking schools, Mt. Juliet could be your next hometown.
This community has developed into one of the most alluring places to live and do business in recent years. With some of the lowest tax rates in Tennessee and continued growth in the business sector. It's fortunate to be one of the few cities that the region's only daily train passes through, making it an ideal town for commuters into Nashville. Mt. Juliet is one of the fastest growing cities in the state, however, it's able to keep its small town charm and friendliness.
Providence Marketplace is a great place to start if you're in the mood to shop, with over 60 stores and restaurants, plus the area's most popular movie theater. The shopping center also hosts regular holiday events for guests as well as a summer concert series. Cedar Creek Sports Center offers some fun activities for families including go-carts, bumper boats, batting cages, and putt-putt golf.
Nearby golf courses including Pine Creek and Windtree Golf Club offer a great place to unwind on the weekends. The town is home to a great parks system that offers a range of activities. Jones Family Park offers a disc golf range and sand volleyball courts, Robinson Family Park offers walking trails through a certified wildlife habitat, and South Mt. Juliet Bark Park offers a playground for kids and a dog park for your four-legged friends. Perhaps the local's favorite, Charlie Daniels Park is home to a skate park, basketball courts, a splash pad, and more. This is also where you'll find the town's weekly farmer's market.
Within just a short drive, residents are able to enjoy several other parks and natural areas such as Longhunter State Park, as well as boating, fishing, or swimming at either Percy Priest Lake or Old Hickory Lake. Even if you're not a boater, the Harbor Island Yacht Club on Old Hickory is a must visit during one of their 15 yearly regattas, or you can enroll your child in their summer sail camp if they're interested after their visit.
After a fun day out, you'll find the residents of Mt. Juliet enjoying a meal at one of the many unique restaurants the town has to offer. The Goat is a favorite for everything from brunch to late-night bites and beverages. For southern cuisine, you can't go wrong at Norm's Place Amish Market and Restaurant or with a visit to Courtney's Restaurant for meat and three style dining. If you're craving something a little different, locals recommend Persis Biryani Indian Grill or Margarita House for Mexican cuisine.
If a small town with big city conveniences and opportunities is what you're looking for, this might be your town. With a celebrated system of schools, plenty of activities to keep you busy, and considerable growth for a promising economic and social future, you can't go wrong with Mt. Juliet.

Teen Dead in Mt Juliet Crash
A teen is dead after the vehicle he was riding in crashed into a
pole in Mt. Juliet early this morning.
Neighbors say it's not the first time someone has lost a life on
that road.
I was born and
raised on Weakley Lane, said Kitty Lohman. Theres been a lot of accidents
here and lots of people have lost their lives.
According to
police, 14-year-old Richard Al-Sareh died at the scene on Weakley Lane and
after the accident. They added that the driver and other passengers took off on
foot--hiding from authorities.
One of the boys
involved in the crash, however, posted on Fox 17s Facebook page that they
would never leave their friend to die.
Lohman knows
firsthand just how dangerous driving on that stretch of road can be. She lost
her first husband there 20 years ago in a deadly car crash.
Friday afternoon,
Lohman went to check on her friend who lives a few doors down from where Friday
morning's crash happened.
Nearly 200 homes
lost power after a pole was knocked down. Crews were quick to replace it but
Lohman says the pain still lingers.
She added that
something needs to be done on Weakley Lane to improve driver safety.
Its kind of like
driving a racetrack, she said. Ive often wondered if putting more guardrails
by the state would help.
So far, no charges
have been filed in this accident.

An elderly Mt. Juliet couple was found dead in their home on Weston Drive about 11:00a.m. Tuesday. Police say the couple's son discovered the bodies after being unable to reach his parents by phone. Neighbors identify the couple as Hubert and Betty Wilburn. They say Mr. Wilburn was struggling to care for his wife who was battling serious health problems. Police say both victims appear to have died of gun shot wounds. Mt. Juliet police won't confirm it was a murder suicide, but public information officer Tyler Chandler says there were no signs of forced entry. He went onto say police are not actively looking for any suspects and they have no reason to believe anyone else in the neighborhood is in danger. An exact cause of death will be determined after police get the results of the autopsies.

The South's Gonna Do It Again by Dan River Breeze
**Song #2 from the Last Set Recorded Live at Stan's on April 13, 1985**
CREDITS:
Vaughn: Vocal & Guitar (Rhythm & Low Double Lead)
Cindy: Backing Vocals in the Choruses / Steve: Bass
Tim: Drums / Jimmy: Lead Guitar & Slideshow
PHOTOS: The Band Photos were all taken by Andy, a friend of Vaughn's. Most of the others were from Google Image Search, but starting at about 2:21 there is an old family pic from my great-grandfather Gene Shaffer's family taken in about 1915. That's my grandmother standing behind his left shoulder and her oldest (about 5-year-old) son Clyde on his right.
Then there is one of me on the family pony, Nell (about 1963); and then there is another taken when my class was graduating in 1974 (with me trying on my friend Joe's square cap, lol d:). The landscape photos after those are some I took myself of the landscaping I was doing here in about 1993. Then at the end of that solo break, at about 2:53, is one of me in what I call the CSS SuperNewt Recreational Kayak. It was taken by Eric on the Dan River in Stokes County, NC last year. d;).
Another photo worth mentioning is one with Ed Mosley when Ed was sitting-in with us one night at Stan's. Ed used to be in both The Underground Band and Dan River Breeze at an earlier time with Vaughn, Steve and me. Ed died in about 2000 (maybe?) after becoming an invalid after suffering a stroke a few years earlier.
ARTIST INFO from Wikipedia: Charlie Daniels was born October 28, 1936, in Wilmington, North Carolina, and raised on a musical diet that included Pentecostal gospel, local bluegrass bands and the rhythm & blues and country music from Nashville's 50,000-watt radio stations WLAC and WSM. Daniels grew up in the small town of Gulf located in Chatham County, North Carolina. His childhood home still stands in Gulf but is currently in a state of disrepair. He graduated from high school in 1955. Already skilled on guitar, fiddle, banjo, and mandolin, Daniels formed a rock 'n' roll band and hit the road.
In 1964, Daniels co-wrote It Hurts Me (a song which Elvis Presley recorded) with Joy Byers. He worked as a Nashville session musician, often for producer Bob Johnston, including playing electric bass on three Bob Dylan albums during 1969 and 1970, and on recordings by Leonard Cohen. Daniels recorded his first solo album, Charlie Daniels, in 1971. He produced the 1969 album by The Youngbloods, Elephant Mountain, and played the violin on Darkness, Darkness.
His first hit, the novelty song Uneasy Rider, was from his 1973 second album, Honey in the Rock, and reached No.9 on the Billboard Hot 100. During this period, Daniels played fiddle on many of The Marshall Tucker Band's early albums: A New Life, Where We All Belong, Searchin' For a Rainbow, Long Hard Ride and Carolina Dreams. Daniels can be heard on the live portion of the Where We All Belong album, recorded in Milwaukee, WI on July 11, 1974.
In 1974, Daniels organized the first in a series of Volunteer Jam concerts based in or around Nashville, Tennessee, often playing with members of Barefoot Jerry. Except for a three-year gap in the late 1980s, these jams have continued ever since.
!n 1975 he had a top 30 hit as leader of the Charlie Daniels Band with the Southern Rock self-identification anthem The South's Gonna Do It Again and Long Haired Country Boy was a minor hit in that year. Daniels also played fiddle on Hank Williams, Jr.'s 1975 album Hank Williams, Jr. and Friends.
Daniels won the Grammy Award for Best Country Vocal Performance in 1979 for The Devil Went Down to Georgia, which reached No. 3 on the Hot 100 in September 1979. The following year, Devil became a major crossover success on rock radio stations after its inclusion on the soundtrack for the hit movie Urban Cowboy.
On October 18, 2005, Daniels was honored as a BMI Icon at the 53rd annual BMI Country Awards. Throughout his career, Daniels' songwriting has won 6 BMI Country Awards; the first award was won in 1976 for The South's Gonna Do It Again.
In November 2007, Daniels was invited by Martina McBride to become a member of the Grand Ole Opry. He was inducted by Marty Stuart and Connie Smith during the January 19, 2008, edition of the Opry at the Ryman Auditorium.
Daniels now resides in Mount Juliet, Tennessee, where the city has named a park after him. Daniels continues to tour regularly.
Mt. Juliet H.S. Officials Refuse to Budge on Senior Prank Suspensions -- Mikayla Lewis
Stream WZTV Fox 17 Newscasts LIVE starting with Fox 17 This Morning at 5am and News at 9pm.
MOUNT JULIET, Tenn.--The mother of one Mount Juliet High School senior is waiting
to find out how a prank will impact her son's record. School administrators suspended Hunter Hinshaw with nearly 30 other students. Their senior prank
was lying on the hallway of the school.
Hinshaw's mother , Lisa says school administrators out-of-school
suspension for the senior prank is too severe.
Wilson County Schools says the prank, blocked not only the hallway,
but also the elevator... Traffic of nearly 2,000 students was nearly halted.
Lisa Hinshaw says, the students that were viewing
this prank were the ones blocking the hallway.
Thursday Hunter Hinshaw told Fox 17 the seniors planned ahead
to avoid creating problems.
Hunter Hinshaw says, I think that the school board and
administration should sit down and really think about what they are taking away
from us.
The principal did meet with
the Hinshaw family and Hunter is still allowed to skip some of his
finals because of good grades.
His mom says brown is
looking into his scholarship.
Lisa Hinshsaw says, He was very kind and listened to
our concerns ,but he would not lift the out of school suspension.
The stunt will go on Hunter Hinshaw's discipline record, which
a college can request.
The Hinshaw's say the school needs to clearly state pranks
aren't allowed in the student handbook.
Lisa Hinshaw says,
Even though it's tradition for seniors to do a senior prank , if they're
not allowed then it needs to be communicated to families and the kids.
Hinshaw and other seniors held their own senior field day at
Charlie Daniels Park, because of their OSS causing them to miss the school
event. Lisa Hinshaw says she is meeting with the school district next week.
