Welcome to Lake Chatuge and the Mountains!
Lake Chatuge Real Estate - Hayesville Realty
Hello. My name is Ed Reams, and I'm the Owner/
Broker of Advantage Chatuge Realty here in
Hayesville, North Carolina. My staff and I would
like to welcome you to the beautiful mountain/
lakes region of western North Carolina and
northeast Georgia.
The crown jewel of our area is Lake Chatuge,
which you see behind me. It was named for an
century Cherokee village, which was once
18th
situated near this site. It's a very large lake, with
132 miles of shoreline -- and it covers more than
7,000 acres. Half the lake is located here in Clay
County, North Carolina, and the other half is
located just across the state line in Towns County,
Georgia.
Chatuge is a man-made lake, and was built in 1942
by the TVA... the Tennessee Valley Authority.
When the lake is at full pool during Spring and
Summer, its elevation is approximately 1,928 feet
above sea level.
As the off-season approaches, the TVA releases
a small amount of water and the lake level drops
a bit -- but is then brought back up to full pool the
following Spring.
There are several U.S. Wildlife Areas situated on
the lake, all of which are available for public use.
These Wildlife Areas have miles of hiking and
biking trails, boat launches, grills, picnic tables and
beaches.
Lake Chatuge is ideal for boating, swimming,
water skiing and fishing, and is conveniently
located within two hours' driving time of Atlanta,
Chattanooga and Asheville.
If you enjoy spending part of your outdoor time on
the links, you'll be pleased to learn that there are
three golf courses located within a 10 minute drive
of Lake Chatuge.
All of the courses are open to the public, and
they're all beautiful. Personally, I'm not much of
a golfer, but I have friends who are -- and many of
them insist that our local courses here are among
the most beautiful they've ever played.
Hayesville is the county seat of Clay County,
which was named for Henry Clay, the 18th
century Congressman, Senator and Secretary
of State under John Quincy Adams. Half the
county consists of pristine lands managed by the
U.S. Forest Service. These include a number of
National Wildlife Recreational Areas.
These are great spots to get together with family
and friends. There are hiking trails galore, picnic
tables and grills, and camping sites.
Some even offer miles of horseback riding trails...
creek-fed swimming holes, and large, natural
waterfalls.
If outdoor activities aren't your cup of tea, there
are plenty of indoor activities available to you.
For example, the John C. Campbell Folk School is
an internationally renowned institution where you
can take courses on everything from photography
to dancing to painting to blacksmithing.
Or, you can attend a presentation by one of our
local theater ensembles, dance troupes, or musical
groups.
Or, you can dine at one of our local restaurants
which -- personal opinion -- rival anything which
was available to us in metro Atlanta when we lived
there.
The quality of life here in the mountain/lakes
region is wonderful, and the lake is an ever-
changing palette of colors.
The daytime hours are filled with intense blues and
greens.
As we approach evening, the reds, oranges and
magenta's appear.
And sometimes in the early morning, the lake
sleeps beneath a layer of clouds.
Throw in a full moon for good measure, and
there's nothing quite like it.
I hope you've enjoyed this brief overview. If you
are considering purchasing property here, either
as a vacation home, a primary residence, or as an
investment, I hope you'll call me or one of our
agents; it would be our privilege to assist you in
your property search.
Thanks for joining us today.

Fires Creek Log Slalom
December 12, 2008
This is a fairly typical example of Fires Creek in Nantahala National Forest, North Carolina. I portaged this one due to that nasty log just downstream of a hole. Note also the previously chainsawed log in the entrance, and the additional log in the run out downstream. There is a lot of wood in Fires Creek.
FIRES CREEK COVE
Western North Carolina Log home in Fires Creek Cove Subdivision on 6.8 acres with deeded access to thousands of acres of United States Nantahala Forest, Fires Creek Rim Trail (which can access the Appalachian Trail.) Also deed access to the trout waters of Fires Creek. 3 bedroom, 2.5 baths, granite counter tops, hardwood floors, large stacked stone fireplace. Very private with mountain views.

I am Evelyn Owens with Keller Williams Realty in Franklin, NC.
Welcome to Arrowhead Point and Lake Nantahala located 19 miles west of Franklin, the Western North Carolina retreat that will literally take your breath away.
This pristine lake, second highest east of the Mississippi, surrounded by mostly unspoiled, lush mountains and fed by the Nantahala river is the most peaceful existence to be found in Western North Carolina.
A gated community with paved roads, views, lake front property or lake access with boat slips and privacy.
Take the tram to your boat slip for an outing on the lake, hike the trails down by the trout pond or fish and relax from your dock.
Buy or build a rustic but elegant home at Arrowhead Point. Architecturally designed timber frame homes are available and customized specifically for certain lots that fit with the landscape.
Enjoy nature at its best in all four seasons with the bright green foliage, wildlife giving birth to new off springs and sweet smells of wildflowers in the spring and summer.
Autumn's cinema brings color to the mountains with the leaves changing and golden rod blooming.
The chill in the air and wood smells from fireplaces is a sign that fall is in the air.
Just listen to the tree frogs croaking and squirrels scampering to store food for the winter.
The sun is setting high in the sky and casting shadows that define each massive mountain. Soon the trees will be glistening in the sun after a frosty night.
This lovely mountain lake community was created by Martha and Emory Crawford, owners and developers, a community that offers the peace and tranquility that most people will only dream about.
Lake Nantahala the best kept secret in Western North Carolina just waiting to be your playground.
