London 4K - British Celebrity - Driving Downtown - Chelsea London England
Friday morning drive in the British celebrity neighborhood of Chelsea. Does your favorite actor or musician live or own property here? Check the list below! Chelsea is an affluent area of South West London. The exclusivity of Chelsea as a result of its high property prices and is home to one of the largest communities of Americans living outside the United States
Chelsea's frontage runs from Chelsea Bridge along the Chelsea Embankment, Cheyne Walk, Lots Road and Chelsea Harbour. Its eastern boundary was once defined by the River Westbourne, which is now in a pipe above Sloane Square Underground station. The modern eastern boundary is Chelsea Bridge Road and the lower half of Sloane Street, including Sloane Square. To the north and northwest, the area fades into Knightsbridge and Brompton, but it is considered that the area north of King's Road as far northwest as Fulham Road is part of Chelsea.
The exclusivity of Chelsea as a result of its high property prices has historically resulted in the term Sloane Ranger being used to describe its residents. Since 2011, Channel 4 has broadcast a reality television show called Made in Chelsea, documenting the lives of affluent young people living there. Moreover, Chelsea is home to one of the largest communities of Americans living outside the United States, with 6.53% of Chelsea residents being born in the U.S.
Swinging Chelsea and Today
Chelsea shone again, brightly but briefly, in the 1960s Swinging London period and the early 1970s. The Swinging Sixties was defined on King's Road, which runs the length of the area. The Western end of Chelsea featured boutiques Granny Takes a Trip and The Sweet Shop, the latter of which sold medieval silk velvet caftans, tabards and floor cushions, with many of the cultural cognoscenti of the time being customers, including Keith Richards, Twiggy, and many others.
The Chelsea girl was symbol of, John Crosby wrote, what men [found] utterly captivating, with a 'life is fabulous' philosophy. Chelsea at this time was home to the Beatles and to Rolling Stones members Brian Jones, Mick Jagger, and Keith Richards. In the 1970s, and saw the birth of the British punk movement.
By the late 1970s, the growing bohemian and punk population moved from Chelsea into nearby Notting Hill and further north to Camden Town, with the rapid gentrification of the two areas, both of which remain places with a significant population of artists, musicians and those who work in other creative industries, particularly Camden Town.
King's Road remains the major artery through Chelsea and a busy road, and despite its continuing reputation as a shopping mecca, is now home to many of the same shops found on other British high streets, such as Gap, and McDonald's. Sloane Street is quickly catching up with Bond Street as one of London's premier shopping destinations, housing a variety of high-end fashion or jewellery boutiques such as Cartier, Tiffany & Co, Dolce & Gabbana, Prada, Gucci, Harrods, Dior, Louis Vuitton, Jimmy Choo, Giorgio Armani, Yves Saint Laurent, Chanel, Valentino, Bvlgari, Gianni Versace and Graff.

LONDON WALK | King's Road in Chelsea from Sloane Square | England
A first-person perspective London walk tour of King’s Road, Chelsea from Sloane Square.
Experience all of the sights and sounds as Watched Walker (yes, I’m talking about myself in the third person) takes us on a walking tour through the streets of London, featuring King’s Road, Chelsea from Sloane Square. The route begins on Sloane Square, then travels south-west along King’s Road, ending by Park Walk.
Sights seen along the tour include Chelsea War Memorial (Stone Cross), Sloane Square Station, Sloane Square Hotel, The Venus Fountain designed by sculptor Gilbert Ledward, Peter Jones, Saatchi Gallery, Wellington Square, Joe & The Juice, Venchi Cioccolato, Curzon Chelsea, Habitat, Chelsea Old Town Hall, Dovehouse Green, Chelsea Fire Station, and Bluebird Chelsea.
And in each video I've hidden a blinking eye, can you spot it? (It could appear more than once). In addition to the blinking eye, I've also added the Watched Walker logo to various scenes–it could be on buildings, vehicles or any other objects, so keep an eye out for it too!
Footage recorded August 2017.

London Video Tour: Kensington & Chelsea
In this video tour, David Hill of New York Habitat ( explores the thriving districts Kensington & Chelsea in London! The Royal borough of Kensington & Chelsea is the most densely populated in the UK and one of the wealthiest. The borough stretches roughly from Harrow Road in the north to the banks of the Thames in the south, and from Finborough road in the west to Hyde Park in the east. It is the most popular accommodation destination for visitors coming to the city for a short period. In the tour, we'll explore the best shopping spots in the area, stop by museums such as the Natural History Museum, have a look at famous neighborhoods such as Notting Hill and visit parks such as Kensington Gardens!
Shopping in Kensington and Chelsea
The tour starts at one of the most popular shopping destinations in London: Kensington High Street. Kensington High Street boasts many chain stores known throughout the world, such as Marks & Spenser, H&M, Whole Foods Market, and many more. In Chelsea, King's Road is the place to be. King's Road features many boutiques stores, which you can find all the way up to Sloane Square. From Sloane Square, Sloane Street runs north to Knightsbridge and Hyde Park. At Sloane Street, you'll find the best of fashion at stores such as Gucci, Prada, Versace, Jimmy Choo and more. Along Knightsbridge, you'll find Harrods: arguably London's most famous department store.
Culture & Famous Museums in Kensington & Chelsea
In Kensington you can find the Natural History Museum, which boasts over 70 million items in its five main collections Botany, Entomology, Mineralogy, Palaeantology and Zoology. The Science Museum and Victoria & Albert Museum are located just blocks away. In between the Natural History Museum and the Albert Memorial, which can be found in Kensington Gardens, lies the Royal Albert Hall. This impressive building hosts concerts, plays and operas. All these buildings together show South Kensington really is a central point of art and culture in London.
Stay in Kensington or Chelsea in your own Vacation Rental Apartment
After a busy day of shopping, exploring the area and taking in some culture, you can relax and come home to your own London vacation rental apartment. ( NY Habitat has many vacation rental apartments in Kensington and Chelsea that can provide a prefect base to explore London from. Take for example this modern 2-bedroom accommodation in South Kensington: which is just minutes from the Earl's Court exhibition center. If you're thinking of traveling to London with a big family or group of friends, this 3-bedroom apartment in Chelsea might be a fantastic fit for you:
This classic apartment with a private balcony can sleep up to six people, and is located steps away from the bustling King's Road!
Check for our entire selection of apartments in London.
Notting Hill & Kensington Gardens
Next on the tour is Notting Hill, which lies to the northwest of Kensington Gardens. Anyone who's ever seen the movie Notting Hill starring Hugh Grant and Julia Roberts will be familiar with the beautiful colored houses of Portobello Road and the secluded private gardens of the neighborhood. Visit Notting Hill on a Saturday to explore the famous market of Portobello Road, where you can pick up antiques, clothes and more. When you're visiting Kensington, of course you also have to stop by its famous parks. Kensington Gardens is the western half of Hyde Park, and includes the Albert Memorial. Stroll through the park to feel miles away from the busy city life. After a long afternoon of exploring Kensington, end the day in one of Kensington's excellent pubs or restaurants.
We hope you've enjoyed this tour of Kensington and Chelsea in London! Don't forget to check out our blog for more information about the area [INSERT LINK TO BLOG ARTICLE]. Did we miss any of your favorite spots? Let us know in the comments below!

Chelsea - London - England
Chelsea is an affluent area in central London, bounded to the south by the River Thames. Its frontage runs from Chelsea Bridge along the Chelsea Embankment, Cheyne Walk, Lots Road and Chelsea Harbour. Its eastern boundary was once defined by the River Westbourne, which is now in a pipe above Sloane Square tube station. The modern eastern boundary is Chelsea Bridge Road and the lower half of Sloane Street, including Sloane Square. To the north and northwest, the area fades into Knightsbridge and Brompton, but it is safe to say that the area north of King's Road as far northwest as Fulham Road is part of Chelsea. The football club Chelsea F.C. could reasonably be considered to be based in Chelsea, despite being located in the London Borough of Hammersmith and Fulham.
The district is part of the Royal Borough of Kensington and Chelsea. From 1900, and until the creation of Greater London in 1965, it formed the Metropolitan Borough of Chelsea in the County of London.
The exclusivity of Chelsea as a result of its high property prices has historically resulted in the term Sloane Ranger being used to describe its residents. Since 2011, Channel 4 has broadcast a reality television show called Made in Chelsea, documenting the glitzy lives of young people living there. Moreover, Chelsea is home to one of the largest communities of Americans living outside the US, with 6.53% of Chelsea residents being born in the US.

In its rich history, Chelsea’s many successes include 5 Premier League titles, 8 FA Cups and 1 Champions League, secured on a memorable night in 2012. Famous former Blues include Peter Osgood, Gianfranco Zola, Dennis Wise, John Terry, Frank Lampard & Didier Drogba.
Chelsea have only had one home ground, Stamford Bridge, where they have played since the team's foundation. It was officially opened on 28 April 1877 and for the first 28 years of its existence it was used almost exclusively by the London Athletic Club as an arena for athletics meetings and not at all for football.
In 1904 the ground was acquired by businessman Gus Mears and his brother Joseph, who had also purchased nearby land with the aim of staging football matches on the now 12.5 acre Stamford Bridge was designed for the Mears family by the noted football architect Archibald Leitch, who had also designed Ibrox, Craven Cottage and Hampden Park.
Most football clubs were founded first, and then sought grounds in which to play, but Chelsea were founded for Stamford Bridge.
Starting with an open bowl-like design and one covered terrace, Stamford Bridge had an original capacity of around 100,000.
The early 1930s saw the construction of a terrace on the southern part of the ground with a roof that covered around one fifth of the stand.
It eventually became known as the Shed End, the home of Chelsea's most loyal and vocal supporters, particularly during the 1960s, 70s and 80s.The exact origins of the name are unclear, but the fact that the roof looked like a corrugated iron shed roof played a part.
In the early 1970s, the club's owners announced a modernisation of Stamford Bridge with plans for a state-of-the-art 50,000 all-seater stadium.
Work began on the East Stand in 1972 but the project was beset with problems and was never completed; the cost brought the club close to bankruptcy, culminating in the freehold being sold to property developers.
Following a long legal battle, it was not until the mid-1990s that Chelsea's future at the stadium was secured and renovation work resumed. The north, west and southern parts of the ground were converted into all-seater stands and moved closer to the pitch, a process completed by 2001.
When Stamford Bridge was redeveloped in the Bates era many additional features were added to the complex including two hotels, apartments, bars, restaurants, the Chelsea Megastore, and an interactive visitor attraction called Chelsea World of Sport.
