This is one of the activities that we had during our company team-building is Releasing of Sea Turtles From Cherating Turtle Sanctuary.
Cherating Turtle Sanctuary is located just beside Asia's first Club Med in Cherating, Pahang. This centre was established in the year 1972 as a turtle hatchery in an effort to protect the endanger species in particular the Leatherback Turtle. It is open to the public since June, 1 1998.
Situated at the Chendor Beach or Pantai Chendor, this centre helps to ensure the survival of the turtles that land here to lay eggs during the months from April to August. You are allowed to come here during the night and the centre will alert you if there are turtles that come up the shore to lay eggs. It also acts as an information centre to educate the public about turtles and the need to protect them.

Cherating Turtle Sanctuary
The Cherating Turtle Sanctuary Centre is one of the many centres available in Malaysia to provide a safe place for protection and hatchery to the sea turtles, as well as educating the public about the species.
Established in 1997, the Centre is located along the Cherating Beach in Pahang, occupying 0.33 hectares of land. It was officiated in June 1998 by the Malaysia Fishery Department alongside the Pahang State Government.
The objectives of the Centre include protecting the sea turtles from extinction; setting up a hatchery, rehabilitation centre and research centre for turtles in Pahang; educating the public on the species; and creating a tourist attraction in Pahang.
During the peak season from April till August, visitors both local and foreign would flock to the Sanctuary Centre to watch the turtles lay eggs. Authorities have restricted each session to only 30 people, as to not frighten the turtles away. Visitors were also not allowed to bring flashlights and make too much noise.
It takes a turtle up to 3 hours to lay her eggs, from digging a deep hole for her eggs until she buries them up with sand. After the mother has gone back to the sea, the authorities at the Sanctuary Centre will retrieve the eggs and transfer them to the rehabilitation centre, where the eggs are separated by batches according to the day they were laid.
The Cherating Turtle Sanctuary Centre is open from Tuesday to Sunday, 9AM to 5.30PM and 8PM till 6AM. On Fridays, it is open from 9AM to 12PM and 3PM to 5.30PM, and closed on Mondays.

Cherating also houses a cultural village and a turtle sanctuary. The turtles lay their eggs between July and August.

The sanctuary is located adjacent to Club Med Cherating where for the past 50 years, green back turtles have been breeding along the 3km beach. Turtle eggs laying season usually occurs from June to August every year.
