Cherohala Skyway, North Carolina Highway #143 into Tennessee #165
High mountain scenery, 55 miles long. Extremely popular motorcycle route. My brother and I rode it June 14, 2014, on our first road trip together. I would this ride as a warm-up before riding the Tail of the Dragon. Lots of moderate curves with nice stretches between.
Cherohala Skyway (TN-NC) + Ride Review - US Motorcycle Trip Part 14
Day 9 - Our ride back to North Carolina from Tennessee on the Cherohala Skyway, plus a ride review at the end.
The Cherohala Skyway is full of long sweepers and scenic views. It wasn't our favorite run but it's still a great run nonetheless. Less technical than some of the other popular roads in the area so if you enjoy long sweepers, scenic views, and cruising then you will probably enjoy the Cherohala Skyway.

On July 22, 2016, we set out on a two week motorcycle trip from New Brunswick, Canada to North Carolina, USA on our 2002 Honda Shadow ACE 750 and 2011 Kawasaki Ninja 250.

Flying the Cherohala Skyway from Tennessee to North Carolina
The Cherohala Skyway is a beautiful road if you have some time to enjoy the view. Along the way I met some great people and had a great drive. I recommend driving this route to anyone in the area.

This is riding up to the summit from TN side. Thanks to Wheeler for hooking me up with the bike!

North Carolina High Country, Shine On
Gods glorious creation shines on in the mountains of North Carolina. The mountains of North Carolina are as beautiful as any in the world. I have experienced them in all seasons, but Fall is the best. The colors are vibrant and beautiful. There are many scenic drives through the mountains. The Blue Ridge Parkway and the Cherohala Skyway are scenic wonders. There are many gravel and dirt back-roads that are truly an adventure if you like to get off of the beaten path. Gods glory truly shines in western North Carolina. I love to visit this area. It is a very large area that I am still attempting to cover. I keep finding new places. I can hardly wait for October. I already have a 2 week excursion planned in the Smokey Mountain and Blue Ridge area, where NC, GA, TN, & SC come together. To God be the glory!
Drive from Murphy, NC to Robbinsville, NC
This is part one of the day we went for a drive in the mountains. I started recording at Murphy, NC (I made Skip drive up to see the Casino as I had never seen it before). This video ends right outside of Robbinsville before the start of the Cherohala Skyway.

Cherohala Skyway - Full Run
Video of a full ride from start to finish on the Cherohala Skyway. Around the 50 minute mark you'll see a sport bike on the right that didn't quite make the full ride. I'm riding a 2006 Kawasaki Vulcan 1500 Classic. My friend is behind me on a 1900cc Yamaha Stratoliner.
The Devil's Whip (NC 80) - US Motorcycle Trip Part 16
Day 11 - The Devil's Whip (NC 80) was the last run of the trip. This is a wicked ride and I would definitely recommend to run it northbound the first time. There are some extremely tight turns that would be easy to run wide going southbound, especially if you aren't familiar with the road.

Sandy Brings Snow to North Carolina Mountains
by John Madewell Super storm Sandy ushered in a taste of winter to parts of North Carolina, and major snowfall in the Great Smoky Mountains.NewsChannel 9 sent a crew just outside of the viewing area in North Carolina, and the snow appeared.Flakes started falling between Murphy and Andrews, North Carolina.North of Robbinsville, NC and at higher elevation, the snow started sticking to the trees, grass and roads.Schools dismissed early. Along the Cherohala Skyway we met six students from Robbinsville High School. They were all in Will Adams' 4x4 pickup truck, headed to the top of the mountain.Adams said, We're just going up there and having some fun.The two girls along for the ride planned a snowball fight at the top of the mountain where five inches of snow had fallen.Meanwhile, much more snow had fallen at higher elevations like Clingman's Dome.Employees at the Great Smoky Mountains National Park advise several of the roads, including major ones like Highway 441, have been closed.
