The Ultimate Local’s Guide to Chicago || Gatekeepers
Next stop: The windy city of Chicago with gatekeeper Vic Lloyd, one of the founders of a local streetwear shop in the city. From chowing down on some incredible burgers, to cracking the code to enter a speakeasy-like magic lounge, to grabbing a beer and playing a quick game of curling, this is a Chicago experience you can't find in a typical brochure.
In every city there’s someone who’s connected, who knows where to go on a slow Monday night and can get a table anywhere they want on a Friday - in every city there’s a Gatekeeper. In this Thrillist travel show, we’re sending our host across the country to meet up with these Gatekeepers and experience first hand everything you should make sure to do/eat/drink, one city at a time.

Four Star Lounge- Chicago
It's all the brain-child of Mark Garland. He was serving drinks at the high-end restaurant, Cite, when he started talking with a Lincoln Park neighbor of his, who happened to be a business owner. Together, they brought on Chef Thomas Ramirez and launched Four Star Lounge in April of 2015.
Morning Drive - The Magnificent Mile on Michigan Ave – Chicago Illinois
The Magnificent Mile, sometimes referred to as The Mag Mile, is an upscale section of Chicago's Michigan Avenue, running from the Chicago River to Oak Street in the Near North Side.[1] The district is located adjacent to downtown, and one block east of Rush Street. The Magnificent Mile serves as the main thoroughfare between Chicago's Loop business district and its Gold Coast.[2] It is the western boundary of the Streeterville neighborhood.
At present, rent on The Magnificent Mile is the third most expensive in the country, behind Fifth Avenue in New York and Rodeo Drive in Beverly Hills.
Real estate developer Arthur Rubloff of Rubloff Company gave the district its nickname in the 1940s.[1] Currently Chicago's largest shopping district, various mid-range and high-end shops line this section of the street; approximately 3,100,000 square feet (290,000 m2) are occupied by retail, restaurants, museums and hotels.[3]
Several of the tallest buildings in the United States, such as the John Hancock Center and the Trump International Hotel and Tower, lie in the district. Landmarks along the Magnificent Mile include Wrigley Building, Tribune Tower, the Chicago Water Tower, and the Allerton Hotel.
Overview
Today, The Magnificent Mile contains a mixture of upscale department stores, restaurants, luxury retailers, residential and commercial buildings, financial services companies, and hotels, catering primarily to tourists and the affluent. The area also has a high concentration of the city's major media firms, such as the Chicago Tribune newspaper, and advertising agencies. The Magnificent Mile includes 3,100,000 sq ft (290,000 m2) of retail space, 460 stores, 275 restaurants, 51 hotels, and a host of sightseeing and entertainment attractions to more than 22 million visitors annually.[11]

Best Chicago-Style Soul EVER Nick Moss Band Live @Brews Blues & BBQ Allentown PA 2013
Nick Moss (born 1969, Chicago, Illinois, United States) is an American Chicago and electric blues musician. He has released nine albums to date, all on his own Blue Bella Records label. He has played alongside or with Buddy Scott, Jimmy Dawkins, Jimmy Rogers and The Legendary Blues Band; as well as more latterly fronting his own group, Nick Moss and the Flip Tops.[1] The music journalist Bill Dahl, stated Moss possesses mastery of the classic Chicago sound.
Moss originally learned to play the bass guitar, and joined Buddy Scott's backing band in his late teens. He played there for two years before moving on to join up with Jimmy Dawkins.[1] By 1993, he had joined The Legendary Blues Band, and played bass on their final album, Money Talks.[3] The band's frontman, Willie Big Eyes Smith, suggested Moss should switch to lead guitar and he spent over two years there before they split up.[1]
Moss moved on to play as Jimmy Rogers' band guitarist for another three years, before going solo. His debut album First Offence (re-released in 2003) was billed as by Nick Moss and the Flip Tops, and included a guest appearance from the harmonica playing Lynwood Slim.[1] His next two offerings, Got a New Plan (2001) and Count Your Blessings (2003) were both nominated for a W. C. Handy Award, as were the follow-ups Sadie Mae (2005) and Live at Chan's (2006).[2]
Nick Moss and the Flip Tops have recorded two live albums at Chan's, a Rhode Island club. The latter included the harp work of Gerry Hundt.[4] Moss and the Flip Tops played at Memphis in May, and the Ottawa Blues Festival in 2008.[5] The same year Moss produced Magic Slim's album, Midnight Blues.
Moss's ninth album, Here I Am, was released on November 22, 2011.[2] It was nominated for a Blues Music Award in 2013 in the 'Rock Blues Album' category.

Eggnog, or egg nog (About this sound pronunciation (help·info)), also known as egg milk punch, is a chilled, sweetened, dairy-based beverage traditionally made with milk and/or cream, sugar, and whipped eggs (which gives it a frothy texture). Spirits such as brandy, rum or bourbon are often added. The finished serving is often garnished with a sprinkling of ground cinnamon or nutmeg. Eggnog with a strong alcohol content keeps well, and is often considered to improve when aged for up to a year (refrigeration is recommended). Eggnog is often provided to guests in a large punch bowl, from which cups of eggnog are ladled.
Eggnog is traditionally consumed throughout Canada and the United States from American Thanksgiving through the end of the Christmas seasons every year. Eggnog or eggnog flavoring may also be added as to food or drink, such as coffee (e.g. an Eggnog Latte espresso drink) and tea. Eggnog as a custard can also be used as an ice cream flavor base.
Eggnog can be served as a homemade beverage or purchased from stores. Homemade eggnog was traditionally made with raw eggs. In the 2000s, some recipes call for the homemade eggnog mixture to be heated to a safe temperature during its preparation, to protect from eggs that may be contaminated with salmonella. Eggnog made with contaminated eggs that are not heated is not safe, despite the presence of alcohol.
Ingredients
Traditional eggnog typically consists of milk, sugar and raw eggs.
Traditional eggnog is made of milk or cream, sugar, raw eggs, an alcoholic spirit, and spices, often vanilla or nutmeg. Some modern commercial eggnogs add gelatin and other thickeners, with less egg and cream. There are variations in ingredients, and toppings may be added.
Eggnog can be made commercially, as well as domestically. Ready-made eggnog versions are seasonally available with different spirits, or without alcohol, to be drunk as bought or used as mixes with all the ingredients except the liquor, to be added as desired.
Traditional eggnog has a significant fat and sugar content; low-fat and sugar-free formulations are available using skimmed or low fat milk.
Dutch advocaat with around 20% alcohol, long sold in bottles, is essentially an eggnog. Under current U.S. law, commercial products sold as eggnog are permitted to contain milk, sugar, modified milk ingredients, glucose-fructose, water, carrageenan, guar gum, natural and artificial flavorings, spices, monoglycerides, and colorings. Ingredients vary significantly between variants.

In The Loop 12.15.2016 - Chicago Against Terrorism, Rules for Cyclists, Marshall Field's Display-814
It has been 15 years since the terrorist attacks of September 11th. A day we will never forget. Nearly 3000 people were killed, more than 6000 injured. Since then there have been more than 37 domestic and foreign terrorist attacks in the United States. Some experts have cautioned the country could face even greater security risks under President Elect Donald Trump. So is the country safer today? And are big cities like Chicago prepared to respond if terrorism strikes here.
Since 9/11 the United States has spent one trillion dollars on national security and created new agencies such as the Department of Homeland Security and the Transportation Security Administration. Some of the funds have been allocated to help Chicago and surrounding communities prepare for a terrorist attack. In fact, local, state and federal agencies have recently staged mock terrorist attacks just to make sure they are prepared.
When it comes to celebrating the holidays, many remember the festive decorations at Marshall Fields, now Macy’s. At one time considered the grand dame of department stores, this iconic Chicago establishment never failed to please during the holidays, a tradition that continues even now.
What's Happening to Restaurants and Nightclubs in America's Oldest Gayborhood — Boystown
In Eater's first-ever documentary, 'Boystown', writer and editor Zach Stafford explores the changing identity of America's oldest gayborhood through its bars, restaurants, and bakeries. A confluence of factors — including gentrification and the commodification of the queer lifestyle — has led to the disappearances of queer-centric spaces across the country, and Zach's investigation of this one neighborhood sheds a light on much broader trends.
Eater is the one-stop-shop for food and restaurant obsessives across the country. With features, explainers, animations, recipes, and more — it’s the most indulgent food content around. So get hungry.
