The MOLU Visits The Linsly School WTRF Coverage
A brand new learning unit has come to The Linsly School to teach students about the Oil and Natural Gas fields.
The Mobile Oil field Learning Unit is a cutting edge STEM based learning opportunity for grades 5 through 8.
Linsly is the first school in the state of West Virginia to host this program.
MOLU focuses on the Oil and Natural Gas development and technology, sciences, and the engineering behind the industry.
Things they might not think of. Things that are made from Oil and Natural Gas in everyday life, said Cabot Oil and Gas External Affairs Coordinator, Kelsey Mulac. Some of the careers that are involved in the Oil and Natural Gas Industry, how to get involved in the future if they were to be interested in a career similar to anything that we're teaching here.
The Middle School Dean, Maggie Allison said this program brings real world experiences to the middle school students.
We are always looking for those ties to the real world and making it hands on and just an interdisciplinary type of experience, said Middle School Dean, The Linsly School, Maggie Allison.
This program wasn't all for show the students also had to fill out a workbook that they were being graded on for their science classes.
Yeah I think it's very fun that we get to write stuff in our notebooks and stuff, said 6th Grade Student, Adam Gill.
It's really fun so far. Some of the stations are like coloring and like some you can turn the wheel and see what happens and it's really cool so far, said 6th Grade Student, Jessica Lehrke.
This program is also a gateway for children to better understand the jobs some of their parents have in the Oil and Natural Gas field.
A lot of kids here might actually have parents who are working in the Oil and Natural Gas industry, said Mulac. So a lot of kids might go home and say 'Mom' 'Dad' I learned about what you do in school today in these hands on interactive activities.
Mulac also said they are excited to bring this program to Linsly and hopefully to more Schools in the future.
Allison said this program could also ignite a students passion for the Oil and Natural Gas Industry at a young age.

Halloween Hanover avenue down town, in Richmond Virginia USA
Halloween party in Richmond VA USA 2018 | in Hanover Avenue, Down town Richmond
This video is about the Halloween Party at Hanover Avenue Richmond VA USA; it is one of the best places to trick or treat in Richmond, Virginia, USA. This is one of the oldest places where the rich heritage is still well followed! The 1900 block of Hanover in the Fan District has been a trick-or-treating destination as early as the 1970s. What started as a block adorably decorated with pumpkins and haystacks has turned into a Hollywood-grade theatrical production.
The 1900 block of two dozen row houses becomes a theme park of lights, life-size mummies and decorations. There might be a dance show, a live band or air cannons from a pirate ship that blow out Halloween candy. One year, neighbors decorated each of their homes as separate rooms of a haunted mansion.
The video was filmed using iPhone X smart phone camera! with high grade 4k resolution!

- Basketball is a direct combat sport between two teams, each with five people. The purpose of the game is to score multiple points by trying to put the ball into the opponent's basket in the right way and restrict the opponent to throw the ball into the basket. Basketball is one of the most popular and popular sports in the United States and China.
- Basketball was born in 1891 by Dr. James Naismith (1861-1936) - a physical education teacher at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology in Massachusetts.
- At that time the sport, the motor sport was mainly done outdoors. Therefore, during the winter the students could not practice or compete. Gym teachers are anxious, anxious and constantly explore, thinking to find a new game. Basketball initially was just a sports game for students in bad weather.
- Naismith originally built on American football and lacrosse, but that idea soon disappeared because he claimed that American football was too rough, while the other was based on the ability of speed. , not artistic.
- The condition for the formation of this new subject is to be played in the gymnasium, subject to many rules but simple and straightforward, without rods being dangerous and not violent or aggressive. American-style retrogression. Therefore, he chose the soccer ball and used his hand to pass, catch and throw.

Construction of new child development center begins on Langley
The turning of dirt marks a significant step forward for Air Force families waiting for the opportunity to place their children into child care on Langley Air Force Base.
The newly turned ground represents the start of construction on a new $4.5 million Child Development Center on the installation.
Roland Taylor - We have an extremely large waiting list, we have over 300 people on the waiting list and what better way to celebrate the year of the Air Force family with the ability to build a new child development center where we will be able to handle 88 more or our little small customers, in essence, helping our families in general.
The installation already has one child development center, but with 278 children already attending this facility it has reached max capacity, making for the long waits that families are experiencing. With the wait times not getting better anytime soon emergency funds are being utilized to build the facility.
Lt. Col. Jeffrey Ullmann - These emergency non appropriated funds were made available to Langley because of our long waiting list of children waiting for placement in the CDC.
The new child development center will be 11,996 square feet and accommodate 40 additional staff members. From Langley Air Force Base, Va. Patrick Bloodgood, U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Norfolk District.

GENESEE COUNTY/Batavia GCC breaks ground on two new buildings on campus and dedicates Event Center
GENESEE COUNTY/Batavia
GCC breaks ground on two new buildings on campus and dedicates Event Center
Press release
The two new buildings being built at the Batavia Campus are an integral part of GCC’s Facilities Master Plan that was approved by the College Trustees after a multi-year design and development process led, in part, by JMZ Architects and Planners, P.C. The transformational project is being supported by New York State, Genesee County, the College’s sponsor, and by local citizens through the GCC Foundation “Creating Our Future Together Campaign” which to date has amassed $5.4 million through 507 gifts. The overall cost of the project, including the two new buildings as well as related improvements to the Batavia campus is $24.65 million.
The 18,478 square foot Student Success Center will be a two-story facility connecting to the existing Conable Technology Building through a second story bridge. It will become the new “front door” of the Batavia Campus partially enclosing the College’s central academic quad. The one-stop service center will feature new success coaches for incoming students who will provide each new GCC student with a single point of contact from his or her first day on campus all the way through commencement. The Student Success Center brings the admissions, financial aid, academic advisement, job and career counseling and a variety of other student services into one building. The estimated cost of construction of the Student Success Center is $6.1 million.
The other project, the Event Center, will also be two stories, but it is the first facility at the Batavia Campus not connected to the main buildings. (The College’s School of Nursing is located across the street in the Med Tech Park on the south side of Hawley Drive.) Located adjacent to the Soccer and Lacrosse Turf Field at the far west side of campus, the 56,614 square foot facility will include the largest open public space in Genesee, Livingston, Orleans and Wyoming Counties. The large arena will not only accommodate an array of athletic competitions, but all kinds of civic, community, trade, industry as well as college events—from regional and even state-wide farm, boat and tractor shows to commencement ceremonies where a whole family can sit together. The new facility is expected to draw as many as 500,000 visitors to the campus each year. The estimated cost of construction of the Event Center is $13.8 million.
Construction completion is targeted for next summer (2017).
If the founders of Genesee Community College had a crystal ball they would surely be impressed that their efforts in the mid-1960’s would one day encompass: a student population in excess of 6,800; thousands of employees of area business organizations and community residents enrolled in non-credit business and skill development programs; seven campus locations in four counties; more than 70 academic degrees and certificates; 24,000 alumni; 600 employees, and an annual economic impact last measured at $169 million three years ago.
“Constructing new buildings and reaching our 50th anniversary is exciting, there’s no doubt,” GCC President James Sunser, Ed.D. said. “But what is most important is that our vision today, to be a student-centered college that promotes intellectual and social growth, and empowers individuals to meet the demands of a changing world continues the legacy that started 50 years ago. We really are carrying the early vision of our founders forward, and preparing GCC for the students in the next 50 years.”
Craig Yunker, the chair of the “Creating Our Future Together” fundraising campaign which helped to finance the new buildings, was a teenager when his parents were active members of the Citizens Committee that spearheaded the grassroots effort to convince Genesee County Board of Supervisors that the community needed a college. These efforts succeeded in November 1965 when local voters approved the creation of Genesee Community College in a public referendum.
“I respected and admired my parents for their commitment to the cause, and I never imagined that I would be called upon 50 years later to help launch Genesee Community College in exciting new directions,” Yunker said. “Through the years, many people have contributed to the success of GCC which continues today.”
--------------------------------------
President Sunser also announced that the Event Center will be dedicated to Dick Call, who played a big role in bringing together the community to raise funds for the largest capital project in the 50 year history of GCC.
Call passed away in 2014.
The Richard C. Call Arena will be a tribute to the remarkable legacy of a man that has given so much to our college and community, says Sunser. It will symbolize the strength of our community and the power that we all have to make a difference in other people’s lives.”

'Common Law' S2 E2: Rethinking Rights After World War II
As World War II made clear, the United States needed to step up on civil liberties and civil rights to take on the Soviet Union, UVA Law professor G. Edward White explains. (University of Virginia School of Law, Oct. 15, 2019)
