China: the world's biggest camera surveillance network - BBC News
China has been building what it calls the world's biggest camera surveillance network. Across the country, 170 million CCTV cameras are already in place and an estimated 400 million new ones will be installed in the next three years.
Many of the cameras are fitted with artificial intelligence, including facial recognition technology. The BBC's John Sudworth has been given rare access to one of the new hi-tech police control rooms.

US Congressional Aids Get Free Luxury Trips to China
It's a loophole that allows US officials to go on extravagant trips to China, all expenses paid by the Chinese regime. Although Congress has imposed bans on most types of free travel for members, there's an exception—if it's for cultural exchanges, it's fine. And that's allowed foreign lobbyists to offer some pretty outlandish travel gifts.
According to the Washington Post, last summer, about a dozen congressional aids toured China; the bill footed by the Chinese government. Highlights of the trip include business class flights, luxury hotels, walking along the Great Wall, seeing priceless cultural artifacts in Shanghai, and, touring Chinese military vessels.
[Li Fengzhi, Former Chinese intelligence officer]:
The Chinese government plans to build a good relationship with them and exert some influence. Another reason is, the CCP wants to find those who share the CCP's appetite or are easy to develop further relations with during the visit. The CCP will have further and closer contact with these officials at a convenient time.
Washington Post says that between 2006 and 2011, China provided an incredible 226 all-expense paid trips to US Congressional staff. That's almost double the second biggest spender—Taiwan.
The Post reported that in those six years, the US Capitol Hill staffers went on 803 free trips around the world.
But the number could actually be higher. Only senior congressional staff members and lawmakers are required to divulge foreign-sponsored travel.
[Zhu Xinxin, Chinese Author]:
The greater the CCP'S economic strength, the greater the force of its corrosion. The CCP exports corrupt factors all over the world.
Although most of those travelling are junior staffers, many are concerned that foreign governments could be buying influence. If not with top lawmakers, then at least with the next generation in Capitol Hill.

Jiangnan, China tour - Shanghai (10 May 09) - Part 53
This was actually not part of the tour but our free time before we headed to our last destination (not the airport though) by our tour coach.
We met Jack (Zhonghua) (one of my aunt's adopted son), and then later on his parents who were generous towards us. They treated us early dinner at Dazhong Merrylin Hotel.
Before having my dinner with them, I walked out and quickly recorded this; from the hotel entrance till our private room.
Jack's parents also gave us seemingly luxurious gifts such as beautifully packed tea leaves. :)
CAT BA ISLAND ON MOTORBIKE | Vietnam Travel
On the weekend i thought it was high time to try out Cat Ba Island! The island lies off the coast of Hai Phong, and is a wildlife reserve & world heritage site. It is the largest of hundreds of limestone islands thats comprise the famous marine otherworldly paradise of Ha Long bay. I took a short ferry (about 45 minutes) from Hai Phong Harbour after surviving the onslaught of dockland truck traffic on my little motorbike.
Arriving on Cat Ba Island was akin to being welcomed to an idyllic paradise compared with the industrialised city zone in which I reside.
I created a video during my on Cat Ba Island, I hope that you enjoy it.

How Many English Teachers Abroad Kill Their Options in Business and Finance
My dad was an attorney and he used to have broke clients who would insist on not drafting a will. His line was While you may not have any money today, what if you get hit by a Frito Lay truck crossing the street when you leave my office today? Wouldn't you like to have some say in how that legal settlement money is spent in your absence?
Even if an English teacher has nothing today and has no immediate plan to return to their home country, I never recommend throwing out options. As a matter of fact, I keep every possible door open I can as long as I can that may eventually yield some sort of opportunity or pay off. If you neglect to keep your financial house in order (and that goes far beyond stacking abroad), you may find at some point in the future that you have shot yourself in the foot and wish you'd been smarter while teaching ESL abroad. This stuff I'm talking about is not amazingly hard to do and does not require an insane level of compliance, it just requires one to not be lazy and/or shiftless.
You see, planning for the future does not just depend on your current situation and your current net worth. It means you have to project well beyond and look at your *potential* future situation(s). This is one area that many English teachers neglect. I HIGHLY recommend staying in compliance, doing your taxes, and keeping your credit active. You may want to buy real estate in the future or start a business... you never know. It's relatively easy and just requires you to stay on top of it... and it can pay off in the end.

Hola putas!
Welcome to the world wide web’s ultimate fantasy travel experience.
This week’s edit is so fantástico that the location of our story requires an actual time travel machine or a máquina del tiempo. (Guess who got the google translate out.)
Notoriously legit with anyone who’s a virtuoso of all things luxey (it me), the Aman Hotel group are set to open up their latest offering in 2020. Which means we have exactly one year to brush up on our Mexican, get margarita fit (Taco Bell I’m coming for ya) and plan out every detail of just how we are going to make the most of this dreamy slice of heaven.
The location of said slice is set in Baja Mexico, just on the edge of the Sea of Cortés. The vibe is what I like to call luxey as fudge. And thanks to the extreme privacy of the pavilions the dress code is basically anything you want it to be. Which makes it perfect for anyone with a hankering for a nudist beach without all the other ‘beach balls’ and ‘banana hammocks’ if you you know what I mean. (I’m talking about private parts people.)
This lack of limitations may be intimidating for the more modest among us. So to help you achieve your perfect virtual-vacay wardrobe I have chucked in as many cutie pieces as the edit could handle. Including some of the luxiest looking sunnies and bodysuits I could find for an absolute steal. Think pockets of Pesos, hombres!
In true AMAN style, the aesthetic and architecture are determined by the surroundings. And with all the dreamy views of sand, sea and mountains it promises the perfect balance of indoor and outdoor spaces.
If you’re in the business of looking the business on any beach escape the top of your priority list should always be your skin. So I included my all-time favourite sunscreen by Knightsbridge’s most famous beauty clinic, Dr Rita Rakus Clinic. I also feature her Vitamin C serum. I used this nonstop on my latest beach escape and I noticed a huge difference when I combined the sunscreen to protect my skin with vitamin C to feed it.
Now that we have ticked the box of glowy skin the only thing left to work on is that glow from within. Dr Tara Swart’s latest book, The Source is probably the ultimate holiday read because it has all sorts of exercises that will blow your mind, given the right environment for some proper introspection. As a world-famous Neuroscientist, all the reprogramming she helps you to do with your squishy old brain are backed up by the latest scientific research. Think The Secret, minus the crystals but with legit magical results. So legit in fact that it’s the exact same exercises she practices as a leadership coach with CEO’s from the world’s most impressive companies. I have also popped in a bedazzled diary for you to jot down notes as you read, as well as some of the cutest gosh-darn cactus gel-pens, so that even your notes are totes appropes.
Adiós bitchachos, and enjoy!
X

Mathew J - TTO China - KTV
KTV is a great trend in China that needs to catch on here in the US. Essentially, you go to the front desk and ask for a small, medium, or large room to sing karaoke in at ungodly hours. We went to try KTV the night of my birthday, and it was an absolute blast. It made for an exciting event near the end of our beautiful trip to China this year 2012. This clip is a peek at our tetris-themed large room, with ample space for all 19 of us, including the professor: Dr. David Lovell. A big round of applause to the professor who made this trip possible and educational!

How to Unleash Mankind's Productivity: A New Economic Order
LaRouchePAC Friday Webcast - August 26, 2016 -- Tonight we are joined by a special guest, Paul Gallagher, economics editor for Executive Intelligence Review, who will present the clear and urgent choice which Americans must make to abandon the failed economics of Obama's near-zero growth policies and decisively join the new economic order being initiated by China. With the upcoming G20 summit, being convened in one week, China's president has been explicit in his intent that this summit will be used to prompt the creation of a new international financial architecture in collaboration with Russia and other major powers, based on scientific and technological innovation and growth. Meanwhile, the United States and Europe face an oncoming implosion of the transatlantic system, due not only to the tremendous accumulation of debt bubbles and derivatives exposures, but even more so because of the lack of any real growth in economic productivity over decades. China's lunar exploration program serves to illustrate the source of true economic value. Only through the immediate passage of Glass-Steagall and a debt jubilee to write of the vast bubble of fictitious value, can the United States become a part of this new economic order and participate in unleashing the create powers of man.

SUMMARY
=======
The earliest known written records of the history of China date from as early as 1250 BC, from the Shang dynasty (c. 1600–1046 BC), during the king Wu Ding's reign, who was mentioned as the twenty-first Shang king by the same. Ancient historical texts such as the Records of the Grand Historian (c. 100 BC) and the Bamboo Annals (296 BC) describe a Xia dynasty (c. 2070–1600 BC) before the Shang, but no writing is known from the period, and Shang writings do not indicate the existence of the Xia. The Shang ruled in the Yellow River valley, which is commonly held to be the cradle of Chinese civilization. However, Neolithic civilizations originated at various cultural centers along both the Yellow River and Yangtze River. These Yellow River and Yangtze civilizations arose millennia before the Shang. With thousands of years of continuous history, China is one of the world's oldest civilizations, and is regarded as one of the cradles of civilization. The Zhou dynasty (1046–256 BC) supplanted the Shang, and introduced the concept of the Mandate of Heaven to justify their rule. The central Zhou government began to weaken due to external and internal pressures in the 8th century BC, and the country eventually splintered into smaller states during the Spring and Autumn period. These states became independent and warred with one another in the following Warring States period. Much of traditional Chinese culture, literature and philosophy first developed during those troubled times.
In 221 BC, Qin Shi Huang conquered the various warring states and created for himself the title of Huangdi or emperor of the Qin, marking the beginning of imperial China. However, the oppressive government fell soon after his death, and was supplanted by the longer-lived Han dynasty (206 BC – 220 AD). Successive dynasties developed bureaucratic systems that enabled the emperor to control vast territories directly. In the 21 centuries from 206 BC until AD 1912, routine administrative tasks were handled by a special elite of scholar-officials. Young men, well-versed in calligraphy, history, literature, and philosophy, were carefully selected through difficult government examinations. China's last dynasty was the Qing (1644–1912), which was replaced by the Republic of China in 1912, and in the mainland by the People's Republic of China in 1949, resulting in two de facto states claiming to be the legitimate government of all China.
Chinese history has alternated between periods of political unity and peace, and periods of war and failed statehood—the mos ...

SUMMARY
=======
Xi Jinping (; Chinese: 习近平; Mandarin: [ɕǐ tɕîn.pʰǐŋ]; born 15 June 1953) is a Chinese politician serving as general secretary of the Communist Party of China (CPC), president of the People's Republic of China, and chairman of the Central Military Commission. Often described as China's paramount leader, in 2016 the CPC officially gave him the title of core leader. As general secretary, Xi holds an ex-officio seat on the Politburo Standing Committee of the Communist Party of China, China's top decision-making body.Xi is the first general secretary born after the Second World War and the establishment of the People's Republic of China. The son of Chinese Communist veteran Xi Zhongxun, he was exiled to rural Yanchuan County as a teenager following his father's purge during the Cultural Revolution, and lived in a cave in the village of Liangjiahe, where he organised communal labourers. After studying at the Tsinghua University as a Worker-Peasant-Soldier Student, Xi rose through the ranks politically in China's coastal provinces. Xi was governor of Fujian province from 1999 to 2002, and governor, then party secretary of neighbouring Zhejiang province from 2002 to 2007. Following the dismissal of Chen Liangyu, Xi was transferred to Shanghai as party secretary for a brief period in 2007. He joined the Politburo Standing Committee and central secretariat in October 2007, spending the next five years as Hu Jintao's presumed successor. Xi was vice president from 2008 to 2013 and vice chairman of the Central Military Commission from 2010 to 2012.
Since assuming power, Xi has introduced far-ranging measures to enforce party discipline and to ensure internal unity. His signature anti-corruption campaign has led to the downfall of prominent incumbent and retired Communist Party officials, including members of the Politburo Standing Committee. Described as a Chinese nationalist, he has tightened restrictions over civil society and ideological discourse, advocating Internet censorship in China as the concept of internet sovereignty. Xi has called for further socialist market economic reforms, for governing according to the law and for strengthening legal institutions, with an emphasis on individual and national aspirations under the slogan Chinese Dream. He has also championed a more assertive foreign policy, particularly with regard to China–Japan relations, China's claims in the South China Sea, and its role as a leading advocate of free trade and globalization. Xi has sought to expand China's Eurasian influence through the One Belt One Road Initiative. The 2015 meeting between Xi and Taiwanese President Ma Ying-jeou marked the first time the political leaders of both sides of the Taiwan Strait have met since the end of the Chinese Civil War in 1950.Considered the central figure of the fifth generation of leadership of the People's Republic, Xi has significantly centralised institutional power by taking on a wide range of leadership positions, including chairing the newly formed National Security Commission, as well as new steering committees on economic and socia ...
