China Welcomes US-born Panda Back Home
A charter flight carrying Bao Bao, a giant panda born in the United States, landed in Chengdu, capital of southwest China's Sichuan province on Wednesday evening.
After a tiring 16 and a half hour flight, the three-year-old female was greeted by experts at the airport as soon as her panda-themed plane came to a stop. Accompanied by her American keeper Marty Dearie, she looked well.
Bao Bao will stay in quarantine for a month in a 100-square-meter enclosure at the Dujiangyan base of the China Conservation and Research Center for Giant Panda in Chengdu, according to Tang Cheng, Bao Bao's keeper during her quarantine.
Tang cleaned Bao Bao's new home on Wednesday morning, and prepared a meal for her in the afternoon. She will eat local bamboo, apple, carrot and steamed corn bread for her welcoming feast.
Wei Rongping, the person in charge of Dujiangyan Base, said Bao Bao needs some time to adapt to the new environment.
We hope she can adapt to our new environment as soon as possible as well as the food we provided. We hope she can eat our Sichuan bamboo and adapt to Sichuan. We also hope that she can understand our Sichuan dialect as soon as possible that we can talk with her, said Wei.
Bao Bao, which means precious or treasure in Chinese, was born on August 23, 2013 at the Smithsonian's National Zoo in Washington D.C., the second panda to be born there. She is the eleventh overseas-born panda to return to China.
Bao Bao's mother Mei Xiang and father Tian Tian moved to the zoo in 2000 under a collaboration agreement between China and the United States. According to the agreement, panda cubs born in the United States to parents on loan from China must be returned to China before they are four years old.
Their first born, Tai Shan, came in 2005, and their third, Bei Bei, was born in 2015. The mating pair and their youngest cub remain in Washington.
China loans pandas to 12 zoos in 10 countries, part of the country's so-called panda diplomacy. Currently a total of 43 giant pandas are living abroad.

Returned Panda | China
Giant panda, Bao Bao, is in good health after returning from the United States last month. Physical check-up shows that all the biochemical indices are normal during the one-month quarantine, according to an expert from the China Giant Panda Protection and Research Center. For a month, Bao Bao stayed in a quarantine room measuring 40 square meters, with a playground measuring 200 square meters at the Dujiangyan base of the China Conservation and Research Center for Giant Panda in Chengdu City, southwest China's Sichuan Province. According to the research center, at present, Bao Bao weighs nearly 100 kilograms. We feed it 20-30 kilograms of bamboo a day and it eats well, said Wei Rongping, giant panda expert of the China Conservation and Research Center for Giant Panda. After a period of behavior training, we drew some blood without anesthesia and tests show that all the biochemical indices are normal, without any sign of parasites. At present, Bao Bao is in good health and stays happily, said Wei. Bao Bao, which means precious or treasure in Chinese, was born on August 23, 2013 at the Smithsonian's National Zoo in Washington D.C., the second panda born there. According to the lease agreement, any panda cub born in the United States to parents on loan from China must be returned to China before they are four years old, and Bao Bao was sent back to China on Feb. 22, 2017. It was learned that Bao Bao will stay in the quarantine house for another two weeks before she could meet the public.

Research Base of Giant Panda Breeding, Chengdu, China
Chengdu Research Base of Giant Panda Breeding, or simply Chengdu Panda Base, is a non-profit research and breeding facility for giant pandas and other rare animals. Chengdu Panda Base was founded in 1987. It started with 6 giant pandas that were rescued from the wild. By 2008, it had 124 panda births, and the captive panda population has grown to 83. ts stated goal is to be a world-class research facility, conservation education center, and international educational tourism destination.
Chengdu Panda Base has partnered with many organizations in improving ways to conserve giant pandas. For example, its partnership with Zoo Atlanta helped the zoo secure the loan of 2 giant pandas. To date, these 2 giant pandas, Yang Yang and Lun Lun, have produced five off-spring: Mei Lan in 2006, Xi Lan in 2008, Po born on November 3, 2010 and Mei Lun and Mei Huan in 2013.
Spend your morning with the cutest, yet impressive, creatures in China! Visit either the Chengdu Panda Breeding Center or the Dujiangyan Giant Panda Center and take a guided tour of the facility. Tour through the baby and adult panda areas and visit the red panda section to see these small adorable animals -- you’ll even get a chance to hold one!

U.S. returning panda Bao Bao's first day outdoors after moving to new home
U.S.-born giant panda Bao Bao on Friday started her outdoor activity for the first time after moving into its new home and from spending a month in quarantine at the Dujiangyan base of China Conservation and Research Center for Giant Panda in southwest China's Sichuan Province.
At about 11:00, the three and half-year-old Bao Bao moved to a new home. Then, around 14:30, she went out to her playground to adapt to the new environment.
Her 400-square meters home is equipped with a separate housing area and a playground.
Bao Bao kept walking and sniffing around in her playground, smelling every little corner, noting every little detail. According to an expert at the conservatory, Wei Rongping, Bao Bao is marking every corner of the playground in order to her claim her territory.
For the giant panda, it will go through a process of understanding and being familiarized with its territory. This is also a behavior in the wild, the giant panda will leave a smell through such marks to tell other pandas not come close or to find a partner during mating season, said Wei.
The three and half-year-old Bao Bao was born in Washington D.C., and returned to China one month ago.

FORTUNE FLAVOURS PANDA HOLDING & VOLUNTEERING (OCT 2018)
FORTUNE FLAVOURS takes a trip out to the Dujiangyan Panda Base. A conservation centre near Chengdu. I spent the day as a volunteer cleaning out the enclosures, cracking bamboo, feeding the Pandas, making Panda cake and eventually having a quick cuddle.
This is the first time I have travelled completely alone, I knew a few phrases in Mandarin but despite this, I had a fabulous time in China, Chengdu was such a friendly place, I would recommend to anyone wanting a solo dventure.
For those of you who want to take part in this volunteering oportunity I would recommend booking your stay with the Flip Flop Hostel in Chengdu here...
and booking the activity through them via email weeks in advance of your visit.
You need to book in advance to avoid missing the opportunity as the places get booked up quickly.
Please remember to like and subscribe if you find this interesting. I have more videos on the way.
