Spring Festival Water Flower Market Opens in Guangzhou, south China
The annual water flower market opened to the public on Saturday, in Guangzhou City, south China's Guangdong Province, where visitors can buy flowers or enjoy the festive atmosphere.
People in Guangdong Province preserve a unique tradition of opening flower markets during China's Spring Festival. Back in the Ming Dynasty (1368-1644 AD), flower farmers used to transport their flowers with boats to markets, or sell flowers on their boats during the Spring Festival. With time going by, this particular practice became today's water flower market.
This year's water flower market opened with traditional performances like lion dance and roster dance. Visitors were surrounded by fresh and colorful flowers.
Apart from selling and buying flowers, the market also had master craftsmen to teach traditional skills of paper cutting, copper forging and embroidery, and artists to give cultural performances.
The water flower market will last to Jan. 27, and each day it is expected to have some 50,000 visitors.

First Amman Flower Festival held in Jordan
(25 Apr 2019) LEADIN:
The first Amman Flower Fair has opened its doors to visitors.
The event showcases the newest plants and gardening ideas, and is aimed at opening doors for exports.
STORYLINE:
Showcasing the beauty of plants, trees and flowers, the first ever Amman Flower Fair has opened in Jordan.
The four day exhibition is organised by the Jordanian Association for Cut and Ornamental Plants to celebrate the current season's flowers:
We've organised this fair for the first year to celebrate the Spring season, and to show people the products of the Spring season, and also we are organising this exhibition to help Jordanian farmers exhibit and sell their produce, flowers and exterior decoration plants, and also to open doors for export, says Fathi Ghalayini, a member of the association.
Tasneem al-Momani, one of the participants, says production and demand for flowers is currently high:
There is a strong demand to purchase flowers and interior plants in the Spring. During Spring we stop importing as we have a high production of flowers and plants locally.
The exhibition combines flowers with garden designs, and also introduces the latest fashions for weddings:
We've participated in this exhibition because our flowers are very special in colour, and our wedding flower designs are very special. We made summer colours, and light colours for this season, explains Diala Asmar, a wedding planner from Petal Flowers:
The exhibition has also attracted expats living in the Kingdom.
We came for new ideas, and it is good to support such an event here in Jordan. Very impressed, says Jacqueline Sabri, a British citizen living in Amman.
It's hoped the recent opening of borders with Syria and Iraq will help farmers increase their exports of products abroad.

National tree of China - 中國國家樹
Ginkgo biloba, commonly known as ginkgo or gingko, also known as the ginkgo tree or the maidenhair tree, is the only living species in the division Ginkgophyta, all others being extinct. It is found in fossils dating back 270 million years. Native to China, the tree is widely cultivated and was introduced early to human history. It has various uses in traditional medicine and as a source of food. The genus name Ginkgo is regarded as a misspelling of the Japanese gin kyo, Silver apricot. Therefore it is the named as the National tree of China. The older Chinese name for this plant is 銀果, meaning silver fruit, pronounced yínguǒ in Mandarin or Ngan-gwo in Cantonese. The most usual names today are 白果 (bái guǒ), meaning white fruit, and 銀杏 (yínxìng), meaning silver apricot. The former name was borrowed directly in Vietnamese as bạch quả. The latter name was borrowed in Japanese ぎんなん (ginnan) and Korean 은행 (eunhaeng), when the tree itself was introduced from China.

This patriotic display is just one of several created to celebrate the arrival of spring in the Al-Karamah region of the Jordan Valley.
About 20-thousand flowers are formed in different shapes and designs, explains organizer Reyad Marar.
The main flowers here are the seasonal flowers, the flowers that are younger than one-year-old. The spring flowers, which have bright colors and grow quickly, he says.
Thanks to Allah, the numbers of flowers on display exceeded 20-thousand, but the numbers of seeds exceeded 700-thousand, and the numbers of flower containers exceeded 60-thousand.
The area's first spring flower festival is aiming to support the local community.
Festival organizers teamed up with local NGO 'Al-Najat' to provide temporary work for local women, making growing bags for seasonal plants, says Marar.
The local tourism has helped us to make this project successful, he says.
And most people and visitors came here not to see the flowers only, they came here to see the local community who have participated in this project, and to see women who have been successful in making this project in this dear country.
Visitors say they're pleased with the results of all this hard work.
This is my first visit to a flower festival, says Amman resident, Dalia Jehad.
It is very beautiful, I've seen new flowers, they made nice decorations and shapes from flowers, the flowers make me feel optimistic about life. The colors are nice, and I saw different flowers, more than I used to see.

Annual Chrysanthemum Show 2018 at Jilani Park
Annual Chrysanthemum Show 2018 was held in Jillani Park Lahore. Along with lot of Chrysanthemum flowers on display and competition, there was many gardening stalls as well from which people bought flowers, gardening accessories, seeds, fertilizers etc.
Chrysathemum flowers called Gul-e-Daudi in urdu are also called mums as common name. They are perennial in Lahore but treated as annual because they require some care in summer months and in monsoon. Over watering in monsoon kills these plants.
Parks and Horticulture Authority Lahore
Chrysanthemums were first cultivated in China as a flowering herb as far back as the 15th century BC. Over 500 cultivars had been recorded by 1630. The plant is renowned as one of the Four Gentlemen in Chinese and East Asian art. The plant is particularly significant during the Double Ninth Festival.
Chrysanthemum cultivation began in Japan during the Nara and Heian periods (early 8th to late 12th centuries), and gained popularity in the Edo period (early 17th to late 19th century). Many flower shapes, colours, and varieties were created. The way the flowers were grown and shaped also developed, and chrysanthemum culture flourished. The Imperial Seal of Japan is a chrysanthemum and the institution of the monarchy is also called the Chrysanthemum Throne. A number of festivals and shows take place throughout Japan in autumn when the flowers bloom. Chrysanthemum Day (菊の節句 Kiku no Sekku) is one of the five ancient sacred festivals. It is celebrated on the 9th day of the 9th month. It was started in 910, when the imperial court held its first chrysanthemum show.
Chrysanthemums entered American horticulture in 1798 when Colonel John Stevens imported a cultivated variety known as 'Dark Purple' from England. The introduction was part of an effort to grow attractions within Elysian Fields in Hoboken, New Jersey.
