BLACK BEAN NOODLES ♦ Chinatown in South Korea ft Lamb Skewers
Today we're exploring the food scene of Chinatown in South Korea! We're on the hunt for jjajangmyeon (black bean noodles) that appeared in Korean drama Forest of Secrets. The district is filled with dumplings, dumplings and more dumplings. We manage to resist temptation despite all the street food we encounter on the way to the restaurant. We also try Chapssal Tangsuyuk (Sweet & Sour Pork covered in crispy sticky rice flour). Watch the video for the full experience :)

My boyfriend had a work event in the Incheon area, so I rented a room for the night and met him for a casual weekend trip on the coast.
Incheon is a large city on the east coast, about an hour from Seoul and easily accessible via subway. SongDo is technically it's own city, but within the greater Incheon area. Our room was in SongDo, but Incheon neighborhoods were just a 15 minute drive away.
The Incheon Chinatown is Korea's largest Chinatown, and has been established for well over 100 years. Although there are lots of other pockets across Korea of Chinese-settled communities, there are very few official Chinatowns in the country. Incheon's Chinatown is a great stop for food, but also has a mural tour and an entrance to a mountain trail where, after a little walking, you can see a great view of the city and ocean.
SongDo is a newly established city, and is not totally settled yet. There is still a lot of construction and not a lot of people. However, everything does look pretty new and fantastic. It feels as though it's being built for people with a little more money to spend, but most of the people we saw were actually young families, so who knows. It was nice to see the ocean and explore someplace new, but very strange to not see so many people among the countless high-rises!

For those who are new, I am American, and my boyfriend Andy is Korean. We met in 2016 while I was studying abroad in Seoul at Ewha Womans University, then embarked on a 2 year long distance relationship journey! We were reunited permanently in August 2018, and officially moved in together February 2019.

Incheon's Chinatown(인천 차이나타운) came into being with the opening of Incheon Port in 1883 and Incheon's designation as an extraterritoriality of the Ching Dynasty in the following year. In the past, the area held many stores trading goods imported from China, but currently most Chinese businesses in the area are restaurants.
Today, the residents of Chinatown are mostly 2nd or 3rd generation Chinese, descendents of the early Chinese settlers. The area harbors many of the flavors of China, while the traditional culture of the first generation are preserved.

We decided to visit Chinatown last weekend, and it was a lot of fun. Well, except for the 4 hours on the subway back and forth from our university in Seoul to Incheon, then it was really awesome.
They do have a lot of traditional Chinese food there, which is why I came down there in the first place, I came down the to get my mooncake. And I could not find it anywhere else in South Korea beside Chinatown.
We also paid a visit to Wolmi-Do (Wolmi Island) for the small amusement park there and to enjoy the sea as well. We highly suggest you to drop by Wolmi-Do when you are in Incheon or Chinatown, it is really peaceful and calm there, which is perfect for a weekend get-away. (And, to eat some good raw fish or seafood lol).
