Visit To Hoiping China Museum (How Chinese Canadian Museum Has Roots In China) (CCHSBC)
Why did a woman marry a rooster in Hoiping, China? I found the answer at the Hoiping China Museum. Hoiping is known as Kaiping in Mandarin. I went to Hoiping in January, 2019 to do research for a new Chinese Canadian museum in British Columbia. I submitted my recommendations and suggestions to the B.C. Government on February 2, 2019.
There is a proposal to have a hub and spoke model for the Chinese Canadian museum. The central museum, say for example, to be located in Vancouver's Chinatown. It would be connected to smaller centres throughout B.C. intereactively and in other ways. My idea is to have the Chinese Canadian museum connected to the Hoiping China Museum and other centres in southern China.

John Brumby - Re-opening of Melbourne's Chinese Museum
Victorians once again have access to priceless relics and artefacts chronicling the history of Chinese migration in Victoria with the re-opening of the Chinese Museum in Melbourne today.
The Premier of Victoria, John Brumby, re-opened the refurbished Chinese Museum in Cohen Place in the heart of Chinatown, which has been backed by $1.2 million from the Victorian Government for a significant redevelopment.
Mr Brumby said the Chinese community was long-established in Victoria and preserving its history and culture was vital for future generations.
Chinatown is a living tribute to Chinese culture, to art and language, to its food and architecture and is a big part of what makes Melbourne such a great city, Mr Brumby said.
On any given day you can see people enjoying the many attractions in the area and the refurbished Chinese Museum will further position Chinatown as a major cultural and tourist hub.
That's why our Government has provided support for this important project -- we want to ensure that the history and experience of our Chinese community here in Victoria is accessible to all Victorians and to visitors to our State.
The Chinese Museum is an invaluable resource for younger generations to have an opportunity to experience the richness of Chinese heritage and culture and appreciate the importance of migration.
Improvements to the Museum include the installation of air conditioning to create a comfortable environment for visitors and preserve the collection.
In addition, the existing community room has been upgraded and now includes the use of a kitchen facility for visitors. An interactive exhibition called Bridge of Memories, has also been established, which tells the stories of Chinese migrants in Australia since the 1950s.
The Victorian Government's $1.2 million in funding is from the Cultural Precincts Enhancement Fund, a $10 million partnership between the Victorian Government, City of Melbourne and the Chinese, Italian and Greek communities, to revitalise Melbourne's well-established and popular cultural precincts - Lygon Street, Little Bourke Street and Lonsdale Street.
In Little Bourke Street, a number of streetscape improvements, delivered by the City of Melbourne with the support of the Victorian Government, have already been launched as part of this initiative, including:
The new themed lighting markers at the corner of Spring and Little Bourke Streets; and
Two refurbished archways and suspended lighting between Exhibition and Russell Streets.

???????? What's it like being black in China? | The Stream
In recent years China has made sweeping forays into parts of the world where economic and diplomatic opportunities abound, not least the African continent. Meanwhile, China has long attracted African migrants seeking to make their fortune, with the port city of Guangzhou a particularly compelling destination for people hoping to run lucrative businesses.
But now the long-term future of Guangzhou’s ‘Little Africa’ looks shaky amid an ongoing immigration crackdown focusing heavily on those from Africa. Visa requirements for people from African nations are more stringent than for those from other parts of the world, and often confusingly applied - leaving many in legal limbo.
Many Africans say xenophobia is at the root of the immigration clampdown and that it is another facet of the everyday racism they face in China. The racial abuse that black people in China face runs the gamut - from being merely tolerated by disgruntled local people, through being actively marginalised or seen as ‘exotic’, to the extremes of being called ‘dirty’ and ‘diseased’.
Black people from countries beyond Africa have also faced discrimination in major tourist destinations such as Beijing and Shanghai. Unwelcome stares, being pointed at, demands for photographs are a common experience. In some instances, black people have been prodded and touched without being asked, as if a curiosity. Meanwhile, the representation of black people within Chinese media remains problematic. Racist caricature within advertisements, television programming and art exhibitions has arrested attempts to foster inclusivity.
How can China make the experience of black visitors and residents more positive? We’ll ask that question in The Stream.

China Travel Documentary: Yuyuan Gardens in Shanghai, Peaceful Chinese Garden Tour
China Travel Documentary: Yuyuan Gardens in Shanghai, Peaceful Chinese Garden Tour.
Watch as this travel diary takes you on a journey through the beautiful Yuyuan Gardens in Shanghai, also known as the Garden of Contentment. It truly is a beautiful, peaceful place and that is captured in this inspiring china travel documentary.
Youtube Channel:
Yuyuan Garden is a famous classical garden located in Anren Jie, Shanghai. It was finished in 1577 by a government officer of the Ming Dynasty (1368-1644) named Pan Yunduan. Yu in Chinese means pleasing and satisfying, and this garden was specially built for Pan's parents as a place for them to enjoy a tranquil and happy time in their old age.
Shanghai is the largest Chinese city by population and the largest city by population in the world. It is one of the four direct-controlled municipalities, with a total population of near 24 million as of 2013. It is a global financial center, and a transport hub with theworld's busiest container port. Located in the Yangtze River Delta in East China, Shanghai sits at the mouth of the Yangtze River in the middle portion of the Chinese coast. The municipality borders the provinces of Jiangsu and Zhejiang to the north, south and west, and is bounded to the east by the East China Sea.
For centuries a major administrative, shipping, and trading town, Shanghai grew in importance in the 19th century due to European recognition of its favorable port location and economic potential. The city was one of five opened to foreign trade following the British victory over China in theFirst Opium War while the subsequent 1842 Treaty of Nanking and 1844 Treaty of Whampoa allowed the establishment of the Shanghai International Settlement and the French Concession. The city then flourished as a center of commerce between east and west, and became the undisputed financial hub of the Asia Pacific in the 1930s. However, with the Communist Party takeover of the mainland in 1949, trade was reoriented to focus on socialist countries, and the city's global influence declined. In the 1990s, the economic reforms introduced by Deng Xiaoping resulted in an intense re-development of the city, aiding the return of finance and foreign investment to the city.[]
Shanghai is a popular tourist destination renowned for its historical landmarks such as The Bund, City God Temple and Yu Garden, as well as the extensive Lujiazui skyline and major museums including the Shanghai Museum and the China Art Museum. It has been described as the showpiece of the booming economy of mainland China. See it all in this travel diary.
